A heat sealing device for a tubular packaging material which is made of a heat-sealable paper-base laminate having an aluminum foil layer and which is to be cut transversely thereof into lengths comprises a U-shaped high-frequency coil provided in a pressing surface of one of a pair of press members and having two straight portions extending in parallel to each other for heating the packaging material at opposite sides of each cutting portion therealong. Two strip-like magnetic members are arranged on the outer side of the respective straight portions and extend approximately over the entire length of the straight portions. Each of the two straight portions has a ridge extending longitudinally of the straight portion at each of two portions of the entire length thereof for individually applying an increased pressure to opposite side edge portions of the material. The ridge has a circular-arc contour in cross section.

A paperboard container made of a paperboard blank with polyethylene coatings on its front and back surfaces, the overlying ends of the paperboard blank being heat sealed through the polyethylene coatings. The container includes a sealing tape which consists of a polyethylene base and a non-heat sealing layer and the polyethylene base is heat sealed to the polyethylene coatings inside the container except for a portion of the heat sealing layer so that the non-heating sealing layer covers the sectional end of the paperboard blank.

A blank structure for liquid having horizontal and vertical fold lines, bordered by specifically designed indented fold lines, the depth of grooves of the fold lines are gradually decreased toward the crossings of the respective fold lines. Thus, cracks or pinholes at the corners of the folded blank due to the folding stress in case of forming a container can be completely prevented.

Packing material for foodstuff is sterilized with hydrogen peroxide. Residual hydrogen peroxide on the material is then removed by contacting the material with an anti-oxidant or reducing agent which is an approved food additive. L-ascorbic acid is preferred.
