There is provided a session apparatus that enables the user to freely start and enjoy a music session with another session apparatus without being restricted by a time the session should be started. A session apparatus is connected to at least one other session apparatus via a communication network in order to perform a music session with the other session apparatus. Reproduction data to be reproduced simultaneously with reproduction data received from the other session apparatuses is generated and transmitted to the other session apparatus. The reproduction data received from the other session apparatus is delayed by a period of time required for the received reproduction data to be reproduced in synchronism with the generated reproduction data, for simultaneous reproduction of the delayed reproduction data and the generated reproduction data.

A system for use in an electronic musical instrument, which system includes a musical sound generating unit for generating a musical sound, and a detection unit for detecting that the magnitude of the musical sound data generated by the musical sound generating unit exceeds a processing capability, on the basis that the value indicated by the most significant bit prior to data processing not equal to that after data processing. A maintaining unit is also included which forcibly maintain the level of a signal representing the musical sound data at a maximum amplitude thereof, on the basis of the result of the detection effected by detection unit.

A waveform data storing unit stores waveform data only at steps midway among a top zero level step and originally sampled steps at every sampling period from the top zero level step. An electronic musical instrument which has a keyboard and creates a musical tone by striking keys of the keyboard, is provided with an operation control circuit and an adder both for effecting keyboard switch chattering prevent operation processing and touch response select operation processing, a timing control circuit for controlling the switching between the chattering preventing operation and the touch response detecting operation and the scanning of the keyboard switches to detect their status, a musical tone generator for performing a musical tone generating operation asynchronously with the keyboard switch scanning operation, the keyboard switch chattering preventing operation and the touch response detecting operation, and a transfer circuit for transferring touch response information to the musical tone generator. High-speed touch response detecting operation processing and chattering preventing operation processing which are difficult to execute by a CPU are carried out by the operation control circuit and the adder on a time-shared basis, and data is properly transferred to the musical tone generator which performs the musical signal generating operation asynchronously with the abovesaid operations, thereby implementing low cost touch response processing which is free from hardware limitations on the number of tones to be simultaneously produced and the generator assignment system. Furthermore, data for internal processing is set for two words on a time-shared basis, and touch response data which has such a natural temporal variation curve as is obtainable with a time constant circuit system is directly operated by the operation control circuit and the adder is then rendered to one-word external output data of high precision and resolution, thereby effectively reflecting the tough response data in musical parameters of musical tones to be created.

An electronic musical instrument is provided with a first programmable counter for generating a reference clock signal corresponding to a musical frequency and a plurality of cascade-connected programmable counters which are each triggered by the preceding programmable counter. A multi-level signal which assumes one of a plurality of levels for each period specified by one of the cascade-connected programmable counters is output as a primary waveform. The electronic musical instrument is capable of setting various variations of the primary waveform abundantly containing harmonics and is satisfactory in the tone quality and in the degree of freedom in setting tones, and hence is of high musicality.

Thus the temperament selection and the transposition operation can be performed with satisfactory stability and high frequency accuracy.
