In an electronic component and a substrate module, a laminated body includes a first capacitor conductor and a second capacitor conductor embedded therein, which define a capacitor. A multilayered body includes capacitor conductors and an internal conductor, which together define a capacitor. A first external electrode is connected to one of the capacitor conductors via a set of lead electrodes. A multilayer body includes first and second capacitance conductors and an internal conductor, which define a capacitor, provided therein. An apparatus is provided for packaging a laminated capacitor made to have a low ESL value and is used for a decoupling capacitor to be connected to a power supply circuit for a MPU chip providing a MPU. The laminated capacitor is accommodated within a cavity provided on a wiring board. A laminated capacitor includes a first capacitor element having a capacitance component provided by capacitance forming portions, facing each other, and an inductance component provided by the current pass between lead-out portions, a second capacitance element having a capacitance component provided by terminal electrodes, facing each other, and an inductance component provided by the current pass between the terminal electrodes, and a third capacitance element having a capacitance component provided by a set of the pluralities of capacitance forming portions facing the terminal electrodes and an inductance component provided by the current pass around the capacitance forming portions. Very good pass characteristics are obtained by the combination of the first to third capacitor elements.

Laminated capacitor

A multi-layer capacitor includes first and second side-surface terminal electrodes alternately arranged on four side surfaces of a capacitor body. First and second major-surface terminal electrodes are arranged on a major surface of the capacitor body. First and second internal electrodes which are opposed to each other within the capacitor body are respectively electrically connected at ends thereof to the first and second side-surface terminal electrodes, and are also respectively electrically connected to the first and second major-surface terminal electrodes through via hole conductors. With this arrangement, the directions of the currents flowing within the multi-layer capacitor are diversified, and the lengths of current-carrying paths are shortened so as to achieve a very low ESL value.

Multi-layer capacitor, wiring board, and high-frequency circuit

A laminated capacitor has an end surface pitch Pe, which defines an interval between adjacent first and second external terminal electrodes disposed on end surfaces having shorter sides in a body of a laminated capacitor, which is equal to or less than about 0.9 times of a side-surface pitch Ps, which defines an interval between adjacent first and second external terminal electrodes disposed on side surfaces having longer sides, in order to enhance the effect of magnetic-flux cancellation at the end surfaces and to reduce the equivalent series inductance of the whole laminated capacitor.

Laminated capacitor, printed circuit board, decoupling circuit, and high-frequency circuit

A multilayer capacitor is constructed to minimize equivalent series inductance (ESL) and to achieve large capacitance. The capacitor includes first and second main go surface terminal electrodes provided on a first main surface of the main body of the multilayer capacitor. First and second side surface terminal electrodes are disposed on four side surfaces of the main body. The main body is divided into a low ESL section of the first main-surface side and a high capacitance section of the second main-surface side. In the low ESL section, in addition to first and second low ESL internal electrodes, a first conductive via-hole electrically connecting the first low ESL internal electrode to the first main surface terminal electrode and a second conductive via-hole electrically connecting the second low ESL internal electrode to the second main surface terminal electrode are provided. In the high capacitance section, in addition to first and second high capacitance internal electrodes, a first leading electrode electrically connecting the first high capacitance internal electrode to the first side surface terminal electrode and a second leading electrode electrically connecting the second high capacitance internal electrode to the second side surface terminal electrode are provided.

Multilayer capacitor, wiring board, decoupling circuit, and high frequency circuit incorporating the same

First and second external terminal electrodes are formed on the same principal surface of a capacitor main body. The connection between first internal electrodes in the capacitor main body and the first external terminal electrodes, and the mutual connection between the plurality of first internal electrodes, is achieved by a first connection portion. The connection between second internal electrodes and the second external terminal electrodes, and the mutual connection between the plurality of second internal electrodes, is achieved by a second connection portion. The first and second connection portions are arranged alternately. Currents flow through the connection portions in opposite directions with the result that components of magnetic flux generated by such currents are cancelled and the ESL is reduced. In various embodiments of the invention, the first and second connection portions may be distributed over the entire area of the first and second internal electrodes, or may be distributed only along the periphery of the first and second internal electrodes.
