An industrially and economically advantageous process for the preparation of a TBH-HX using starting materials which are cheaply available and are easy to handle, maintaining a high yield. A tertiary butyl hydrazine hydrohalogenide is prepared by reacting a hydrazine hydrohalogenide with a methyl tertiary butyl ether in the presence of an acid.

Process for the preparation of tertiary butyl hydrazine hydrohalogenide

Disclosed is a process for the preparation of monomethylhydrazine which comprises reacting hydrazine monohydrochloride with methanol in the presence of hydrazine dihydrochloride or methyl chloride and recovering free monomethylhydrazine from the formed monomethylhydrazine hydrochloride. According to this process, monomethylhydrazine can be prepared at a high selectivity very easily while controlling formation of by-products.

Disclosed is a process for the preparation of a tertiary butyl hydrazine hydrohalogenide, which comprises reacting a hydrazine salt of a hydrohalogenic acid with tertiary butanol in the presence of a hydrazine dihydrohalogenide or a hydrogen halide. Also disclosed is a process for the preparation of tertiary butyl hydrazine, which comprises reacting a hydrazine salt of a hydrohalogenic acid in the presence of a hydrazine dihydrohalogenide or a hydrogen halide, neutralizing the formed tertiary butyl hydrazine hydrohalogenide by an alkali, distilling the neutralization product and recovering free tertiary butyl hydrazine.

Inorganic acid salts of tertiary butyl hydrazine such as hydrochloride or hydrobromide of tertiary butyl hydrazine, useful for production of azine compounds are substantially stoichiometrically produced by reaction of inorganic acid salts of hydrazine such as hydrochloride or hydrobromide of hydrazine with tertiary butyl halides such as chloride or bromide at a molar ratio of the tertiary butyl halides to inorganic acid salts of 1:7-10 at a reaction temperature of 90.degree. to 110.degree. C. for 40 to 100 minutes.

Process for producing inorganic acid salts of tertiary butyl hydrazine

Methylhydrazines are produced in high yield by reaction of trimethylanilinium halide with hydrazine or monomethylhydrazine at a reaction temperature of 80.degree. to 130.degree. C. for at least 3 hours. Methylhydrazines are useful compounds in the fields of chemical industry, such as manufacturing pharmaceuticals or agricultural chemicals, and space weapon industry.
