A catalyst support for induction heating includes: a honeycomb structure including a pillar shaped honeycomb structure portion having: an outer peripheral wall; and a partition wall disposed on an inner side of the outer peripheral wall, the partition wall defining a plurality of cells, each of the cells extending from an end face on an inlet side to an end face on an outlet side in a gas flow direction to form a flow path; a catalyst supported onto an interior of the partition wall; and at least one magnetic body provided within the honeycomb structure, wherein the catalyst support has a region A where the catalyst is not supported, at least on the end face side of the catalyst support on the inlet side in the gas flow direction, and wherein the magnetic body is arranged at least in the region A in the gas flow direction.

A honeycomb structure, including: a honeycomb structure body having a porous partition walls which are disposed to define a plurality of cells and a circumferential wall, wherein the partition walls are provided with protrusions which protrude to extend into the cells and are continuously disposed in an extending direction of the cells, the cells have a polygonal shape in a cross section orthogonal to the extending direction of the cells, the plurality of cells include a plurality of specific cells having at least one place where two sides each of which is provided with a different number of protrusions intersect each other, and in the cross section orthogonal to the extending direction of the cells, disposition directions of the shapes of the cells including the protrusions in the specific cells are different in one specific cell and other specific cells other than the one specific cell.

A honeycomb structure including: a honeycomb structure body having porous partition walls which are disposed to surround a plurality of cells and a circumferential wall, wherein the partition walls are provided with protrusions, at least one of the plurality of cells includes a specific cell configured so that the protrusions protrude into the cell from the respective partition walls, and the specific cell is provided with a porous material made of the same material as the partition walls in a range of 5 to 50% including an intersection with respect to a pentagonal area which is formed by connecting the intersection when two partition walls configuring the peripheral edge of the specific cell extend and two points of bottom parts and top parts, respectively, of the respective protrusions disposed on the two partition walls, in the cross section orthogonal to the extending direction of the cells.

A method of inspecting unevenness of a partition wall surface of a honeycomb structure includes the steps of: allowing a diffusion light to enter from one end faceside by a predetermined lighting meansand to exit from the other end faceside of the honeycomb structureafter passing it through the inside of the cells, allowing the exited diffusion light to pass through a translucent screendisposed on the other end faceside of the honeycomb structureto act as a transmitted light, projecting a transmitted imageby means of the tone of the transmitted light onto the transmitted light side of the screen, picking up the transmitted imageprojected on the screenby an imaging means, and analyzing by an analyzing meansthe gray level of the obtained image to inspect for each cell the degree of the surface unevenness of the partition walls. A honeycomb structure wherein a plurality of honeycomb segments () each having a large number of through-holes surrounded by partition walls and extending in the axial direction of the segment are bonded at the sides of the honeycomb segments () parallel to said axial direction (X) and integrated, the honeycomb structure being characterized in that, in its section perpendicular to said axial direction (X), the shortest distance (L) from the gravity center of the section to the bonded areas () of honeycomb segments in the section is 1/10 or less of the largest distance (L) from the gravity center of the section to the circumference () of the section. This honeycomb structure hardly generates cracks caused by the thermal stress appearing therein during the use and is superior in durability.
