A novel polycyclic aromatic compound in which plural aromatic rings are linked via boron atoms, oxygen atoms and the like is provided, and therefore, the range of selection of the material for organic electroluminescent elements can be widened. Also, an excellent organic electroluminescent element is provided by using the novel polycyclic aromatic compound as a material for an organic electroluminescent element.

An object is to provide an azoline ring-containing compound which achieves characteristics required for an organic EL element, such as a driving voltage, a quantum efficiency, and element lifetime in a well-balanced manner, and particularly can obtain a high quantum efficiency, for example, in a case where the azoline ring-containing compound is used for the organic EL element. The above object is achieved by an azoline ring-containing compound represented by the following general formula (1).  In formula (1), &#x3c6; represents an m-valent group derived from an aromatic hydrocarbon having 6 to 40 carbon atoms or the like, Y represents &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;S&#x2014;, or &#x3e;N&#x2014;Ar, Rto Reach represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and L represents a phenylene group or the like.

Azoline ring-containing compound, electron transport/injection layer material containing the same, and organic electroluminescent element using the same

An object is to provide a novel polycyclic aromatic compound and an organic electroluminescent element using the same. By providing a novel polycyclic aromatic compound having a diarylamino group and having a plurality of aromatic rings linked to each other via a boron atom, an oxygen atom, or the like, options of a material for an organic EL element are increased. In addition, by using the novel polycyclic aromatic compound as a material for an organic electroluminescent element, an excellent organic EL element is provided.

This organic electroluminescent element is manufactured by using an anthracene derivative having a pyridyl aryl group substituted with an alkyl represented by formula (1) as an electron transport material, and satisfies characteristics such as the following in an adequate and well-balanced manner: improves the external quantum efficiency of the light-emitting element, which is generally required by the electron transport material; reduces the drive voltage of the light-emitting element; and increases the life of the element. (In formula (1), Ar is a divalent or trivalent benzene or naphthalene; R is hydrogen or an alkyl with a carbon number of 1 to 6, but all of the Rs never simultaneously form hydrogen; and Rto Rare, individually, hydrogen, an alkyl with a carbon number of 1 to 6, a cycloalkyl with a carbon number of 3 to 6, or an aryl with a carbon number of 6 to 20.) 

Anthracene derivative and organic electroluminescent element using the same

Provided is an organic electroluminescence element having superior element service life. An anthracene compound in which an aryl group having C10 or greater is bonded to the 9-position and a naphthyl group is bonded to the 10-position, wherein a compound in which a specific aryl group has been substituted, in particular, at the 7-position of the naphthyl group (which is bonded at the 2-position thereof to the anthracene) is used as a material for a luminescence layer to produce the organic electroluminescence element.
