A system and method is taught for collaborative vehicle to all (V2X) communications to improve driving vehicle performance in a heterogeneous capability environment by sharing capabilities among different vehicles in both autonomous and non autonomous vehicles. In particular, the system and method are operative to locate proximate road users and to share the location, velocity and direction of the proximate road user with other road users via V2X communications.

System and method for improved obstacle awareness in using a V2X communications system

A method of performing collision prevention and a system to perform collision prevention involve a communication interface to receive information from connected devices of individuals. The system also includes a processor to obtain the information from the connected devices, estimate a potential for an upcoming collision, and issue an alert based on the potential for the upcoming collision to one or more of the connected devices.

A vehicle-based system and a method of performing communication include one or more in-vehicle devices configured to obtain data. A controller obtains the data from the one or more in-vehicle devices. A first wireless communication unit associated with one or more of the one or more in-vehicle devices transmits data from the one or more of the one or more in-vehicle devices to the controller wirelessly.

Wireless intra-vehicle communication and information provision by vehicles

A vehicle and a method of communication for a vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle includes an on-board gateway for communication using visible light communication (VLC) and a visible light transceiver that is operated by the on-board gateway to enable VLC data communication. The transceiver can communicate with a VLC-enabled device that is within a communication range of the vehicle. The VLC-enabled device can be internal to or external to the vehicle. In one embodiment, a VLC signal is communicated between the vehicle and another vehicle having an on-board VLC gateway and transceiver. The on-board gateway and VLC transceiver enable provide traffic management. A traffic management signal is transmitted from a signal origination device and received at the vehicle using visible light communication, allowing the vehicle to be driven according to the traffic management signal.

Method, apparatus and system for wireless automotive trailer assist in various maneuvers

A system for communication over automotive power lines is described. The system includes a plurality of vehicle modules. Each of the vehicle modules includes a power line communication (PLC) module. A PLC network connects the power lines configured to carry electric power to the vehicle modules. The PLC processors enable the power lines to transmit data between the plurality of vehicle modules. The system also includes a master PLC processor configured to transmit data to one or more of the plurality of vehicle modules via one of two selectable protocols that include a multiple frequency channel communication protocol and a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication protocol.

A multi-beam module and method of performing an adaptive beam sweep in a multi-beam module of a vehicle includes obtaining information about the vehicle. The information relates to a motion state of the vehicle. The method also includes determining whether a sector sweep by the multi-beam module should be a limited sector sweep that covers less than a 360 degree span collectively based on applying a rule to the information about the vehicle, and performing the limited sector sweep with beams that cover less than the 360 degree span collectively based on determining that the sector sweep should be the limited sector sweep.

Adaptive beam sweep in vehicle wireless connectivity system

A spatially distributed module and method of assembling the spatially distributed module in a vehicle include disposing a first sub-module of the module in a first location of the vehicle, and disposing a second sub-module of the module in a second location of the vehicle that is spatially separated from the first location. The first sub-module includes a processor and a memory device and the second sub-module includes a first set of one or more components. The method includes coupling the second sub-module to the first sub-module via a flexible connector such that the first set of the one or more components in the second sub-module use the processor and the memory device in the first sub-module. A length of the flexible connector is at least equal to a minimum distance between the first location and the second location.
