Color-changing wood filling composition

A pourable glue formulation is provided. The pourable glue formulation includes a first urethane polymer, wherein the first urethane polymer is operative to provide adequate tensile strength to the formulation; a second urethane polymer, wherein the second urethane polymer is operative to provide adequate flexibility to the formulation; propylene glycol; an ester alcohol; a biocide; a crosslinking agent; a defoamer; and a viscosity modifier.

High-strength glue formulation

The present invention includes a high strength adhesive and includes a dispenser containing a high strength adhesive. The invention is an adhesive composition comprising: (a) water present in an amount of from about 40 percent to about 70 percent by weight; (b) polyvinyl acetate present in an amount of about 15 percent to about 35 percent by weight; (c) dextrin present in an amount from about 5 percent to about 35 percent by weight; and (d) starch present in an amount from about 0 percent to about 5 percent by weight; the adhesive having at least 30% by weight solids, having a paste-like consistency, and having a bond strength greater than about 2000 p.s.i. as measured by ASTM D-905. The adhesive of the present invention has a very workable consistency that is very much like room-temperature butter or shortening used in cooking.

High-strength adhesive paste and dispenser

This invention relates to thermoplastic, pressure-sensitive solid adhesives capable of transferring an adhesive film to a substrate by friction rubbing of the adhesive on the substrate. The adhesives of this invention consist essentially of polyisobutylene, wax and optionally an adhesive promoter resin. Said ingredients are within certain proportions, molecular weights, melting points, or hardness values.

Method of producing dry polyvinyl acetate particles that are readily dispersible in water, are vinyl acetate monomer free and are useful for making polyvinyl acetate dispersion compositions that are low in odor, form clear dried films and may be used in adhesives, sealants, caulks and coatings. The method includes manufacturing an aqueous, e.g. water, dispersion of polyvinyl acetate containing polyvinyl alcohol; drying to remove volatiles by converting the dispersion to dry form under controlled temperature conditions and redispersing the dried polyvinyl acetate particles in an aqueous medium to form a polyvinyl acetate dispersion that is substantially free of vinyl acetate monomer.

Monomer-free polyvinyl acetate dispersions and method of making same

The present invention includes several embodiments of solvent-based wood fillers comprising an organic solvent component, nitrocellulose, calcium carbonate, a filler selected from aluminum silicate and magnesium silicate and mixtures thereof, and, wood flour. The wood filler of the present invention is easy to apply yet dries in a relative short time, and can be stained sufficiently to match the appearance of the surrounding wood to which it is applied.

Solvent based wood filler

A water based thixotropic adhesive gel is disclosed which contains: water; polyvinyl alcohol, or wherein a portion of the polyvinyl alcohol is replaced with polyvinylpyrrolidone; xanthan gum to impart thixotropic properties to the gel; and a plasticizer for the polyvinyl alcohol. The gel has a thixotropic index which permits the viscosity of the adhesive to break down when a flexible tube or squeeze bottle dispenser is finger-pressed while having a sufficiently low viscosity to allow for easy extrusion from an orifice having a diameter of about 0.06 to 0.15 inches. When pressure is released, after the desired amount of adhesive has flown out of the dispenser, the adhesive quickly reverts to very close to its original gel state so that it does not run on a vertical surface of porous or semiporous material such as paper. Preferred gels contain a water soluble dye and are clear.

Thixotropic adhesive gel

A cross-linkable water-based wood adhesive comprised of a critical mixture of from 0.10 to 0.75 by weight of a water-soluble, high-viscosity thickening agent polymer such as hydroxyethylcellulose, 0.05-0.40% by weight of a defoamer to dissipate foam quickly during manufacture, 25.00 to 45.00% by weight of solids of a self-cross-linking polyvinyl acetate polymer (treated with N-methylolacrylamide) dispersed in water, 1.00-3.00% by weight of a plasticizer/coalescing agent such as 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3 pentanediol monoisobutyrate, 0.50 to 1.00% of an acidic catalyst, such as aluminum chloride, 4.00 to 12% by weight of fine particle-size wood fibers (soft or hard wood fibers or a mixture of both) and 0.10% by weight of a preservative. The viscosity of this adhesive gel will 'break-down' when its container, e.g. a squeeze-bottle or flexible tube is finger-pressed resulting in a sufficiently low viscosity to allow for easy extrusion from the small orifices, approximately 0.10 inch diameter or a rectangular slit opening such as approximately 1/16' wide by 5/16' long of the adhesive application tips attached to such squeeze-bottles and flexible tubes. When pressure is released after the desired amount of adhesive flows out of the container, the adhesive quickly reverts very closely to its original gel state so that it will not 'run' on vertical surfaces nor 'spill' when used as a general purpose wood adhesive. This adhesive has sufficient wet tack to hold two pieces of wood together while still allowing repositioning of the pieces of wood before drying. In addition, since this product contains real wood fibers, its dry film is stainable and easy to sand.

A water based thixotropic adhesive gel is disclosed which consists essentially of: water; partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, or wherein a portion of the polyvinyl alcohol is replaced with polyvinylpyrrolidone; a water-soluble high viscosity thickening agent polymer which is compatible with the polyvinyl alcohol and which imparts thixotropic properties to the gel; a water-soluble plasticizer for the polyvinyl alcohol; and a watersoluble defoamer in proportion of ingredients so that the viscosity of the adhesive will break down when a flexible tube or squeeze bottle dispenser is finger-pressed and have a sufficiently low viscosity to allow for easy extrusion from an orifice having a diameter of about 0.06 to 0.15 inches. When pressure is released, after the desired amount of adhesive has flown out of the dispenser, the adhesive quickly reverts to very close to its original gel state so that it will not run on a vertical surface on porous and semiporous surfaces such as paper. An article of manufacture is also provided whereby the adhesive gel containing the above ingredients is in a flexible dispenser from which the adhesive can be dispensed by finger-pressure.
