A filter media and methods are provided. The media is stretchable and exhibits a high degree of elongation which thereby extends its surface area during pleating. By extending surface area of media during pleating, the initial differential pressure is lowered as the area of media is stretched while keeping the same efficiency range with a compressed thickness of media on the affected area.

In embodiments, the present invention provides a plurality of fine fiber strands made from a first polymer and a second polymer where the second polymer has a higher molecular weight than the first polymer. In preferred embodiments, the fine fiber strands have an average diameter of less than 2 micron, and the fine fiber strands have a length of at least 1 millimeter.

Devices and methods for the production of microfibers and nanofibers having one or more additives

A method is provided for forming complex tissue using density gradient multilayer polymerization (DGMP) to form strong hydrogels with smooth transitions between layers. The multicompartment hydrogel is formed by co-dissolving a polymer precurser with a constituent in multiple solvent fractions to a create prepolymer solutions with different densities, layering the prepolymer solutions on top of each other from high to low solvent density, and irradiating the prepolymer solutions to form a polymer. The hydrogels may be used as biomimetic matrices.
