A suture device is utilized in forming a purse string suture during, e.g., laparoscopic end to end anastomosis procedure, to effect joining of two opposing intestinal sections. The suture device is utilized in other procedures such as, e.g., transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) for removal of low rectal and ultra-low rectal tumors and preservation of anal sphincters to avoid permanent stomas. In particular, the suture device is utilized in forming surgical stitches used to close an internal anal structure or to narrow a passage for performing further transanal dissection to create total mesorectal excision.

Laparoscopic purse string suture device

An endoscope and lens cleaning device assembly includes a tubular body, a visualization device including a lens, and a lens cleaning device. The visualization device is supported on a distal portion of the tubular body. The lens cleaning device is supported on the distal portion of the tubular body and includes an iris mechanism having a plurality of vanes. The vanes are movable between a first position in which the vanes are positioned radially outwardly of the lens of the visualization device and a second position in which the vanes cover the lens of the visualization device. Each of the vanes has a cleaning surface that is positioned to contact the lens of the visualization device as the vanes move between the first and second positions to clean the lens of the visualization device.

Methods, apparatuses and systems are described for administering a swallowable cell collection device to a patient. Methods include releasing a swallowable bundle of string of the cell collection device from a bundling apparatus, maintaining the string in a swallowable bundle while releasing the swallowable bundle from the bundling apparatus, and placing the swallowable bundle on the tongue of the patient. Methods also include constraining a retrieval string of the cell collection device in a swallowable bundle with a dissolvable band and placing the swallowable bundle on the tongue of the patient.

Designs and methods to facilitate swallowing of a tethered cell collection device

Adapters for use with surgical systems including a surgical forceps, and a surgical clip; and methods for providing clip-applying functionality are disclosed. The adapter is releasably engagable with the end effector assembly of the surgical forceps. The surgical clip is releasably engagable with the adapter. With the surgical clip engaged with the adapter and the adapter engaged with the end effector assembly, the jaw members of the end effector assembly are configured to move from the spaced-apart position towards the approximated position to move the jaw bodies of the adapter towards one another to, in turn, urge the legs of the surgical clip towards one another to form the surgical clip.

Adapters, systems incorporating the same, and methods for providing an electrosurgical forceps with clip-applying functionality

A surgical instrument for cutting tissue includes a sleeve, a shaft slidably disposed within the sleeve and defining a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of legs coupled to the shaft and disposed about the longitudinal axis. Each leg has a blade attached to an end portion thereof and each blade defines a cutting edge. The shaft is slidable relative to the sleeve between a collapsed configuration, wherein the legs are disposed within the sleeve, and an expanded configuration, wherein the legs extend distally and radially outwardly from the sleeve. In the expanded configuration, the cutting edge of each blade is disposed in a proximally-facing orientation. Alternatively, the shaft is rotatable relative to the sleeve to rotate the legs about the longitudinal axis, thereby rotating each blade through a circular cutting path defining a different diameter. Methods of cutting tissue are also provided.

Surgical instruments for tissue removal

A surgical instrument includes a stationary shaft defining a conduit and a movable shaft slidably disposed therein. A surgical tool extends distally from the movable shaft and a cup extends distally from the stationary shaft. The cup includes a body defining one or more channels, an annular rim disposed at the distal end portion thereof and defining a plurality of apertures each in fluid communication with one of the channels, and a cap disposed at the proximal end portion of the body and defining a lumen fluidly coupling the one or more channels with the conduit. A central aperture of the cap slidably receives the surgical tool and/or the movable shaft as the movable shaft slides from a retracted position, wherein the surgical tool is disposed proximally of the distal end portion of the cup, and an extended position, wherein the surgical tool extends through and distally from the cup.
