A hosting system is provided. The hosting system includes a grid of hardware nodes for provisioning virtual servers including a first virtual server for a first user and a second virtual server for a second user. The hosting system further includes dedicated servers including a first dedicated server for the first user and a second dedicated server for the second user. A switch, in response to the first virtual server and the second virtual server having overlapping virtual local area network (VLAN) identifications (IDs), defines a first broadcast domain for the first user and a second broadcast domain for the second user, places the first virtual server and the first dedicated server in the first broadcast domain, and places the second virtual server and the second dedicated server in the second broadcast domain.

System and method for managing virtual and dedicated servers

Some embodiments provide a hosting system for provisioning and managing servers (e.g., virtual servers, dedicated servers) in a switched network. In some embodiments, the hosting system receives a configuration for one or more servers for a particular entity (e.g., customer, user). The hosting system then identifies a grid identity and a set of virtual local area network (VLAN) identities for the particular entity. The hosting system then deploys the configuration for the one or more servers on one or more grid-specific hardware nodes using the grid identity and the set of VLAN identities. In some embodiments, the hosting system identifies a local VLAN identity that is associated with a grid-independent hardware node, where a grid-independent hardware node and grid-specific hardware nodes may co-exist in the same switched network.

Configuring and managing virtual grids

A computer-implemented method for configuring a network topology within a cloud computing environment is disclosed. The method includes providing a user interface (UI) to a user to configure a selection of network topology features. The UI enables the user to specify network topology features at the physical device level. Available cloud computing resources that are associated with the cloud computing environment are detected and the configured network topology is mapped to the available cloud computing resources. The user may then access the mapped cloud resources as a virtual network.

Some embodiments provide a hosting system for provisioning and managing servers (e.g., virtual servers, dedicated servers). In some embodiments, the hosting system receives a configuration for one or more servers for a particular entity (e.g., customer, user). The hosting system then identifies a grid identity and a set of virtual local area network (VLAN) identities for the particular entity. The hosting system then deploys the set of servers on one or more of the hardware nodes using the grid identity and the set of VLAN identities. In some embodiments, the set of VLAN identities includes a first VLAN identity for a private network and a second VLAN identity for a public network.

System and method for configuring and managing virtual grids

Some embodiments provide a hosting system for managing virtual and dedicated servers. The system includes a front-end user interface (UI) that allows users to configure, provision, and control virtual and dedicated servers through UI elements. The back-end system includes different actuators that perform different tasks related to the virtual and dedicated server. To interface with these different actuators, the hosting system includes a remote management component (1) that receives a user request from the front-end UI, (2) identifies an actuator that can fulfill the user request, and (3) sends the user request to the identified actuator.
