A technique that leads a surfer-equipment (SE) to switch to a lower bitrate is disclosed. The technique is implemented at an intermediate node between the SE and a domain. Leading the SE to switch to a lower bitrate is implemented by throttling one or more protocols each carried by one or more connections that carry packets of a multi-level-adaptive-bitrate (MLABR) media.

Method and system for bitrate management

The technique for the delivery of a media file is adjusted based on current constraints on a channel being used by a device requesting the media file. The media file is copied and the various copies are optimized for different constraints. Then, the media file is delivered by examining the current constraints on the channel and transmitting the media data from the copy of the media file that is most suitable for the current constraints. In some implementations, the constraint is the bandwidth of the channel and the copies of the media file are based on different bit rate adjustments.

Method and system for providing bit rate adaptaion to video files having metadata

A technique and system that generates transcoded media files from requested original compressed media files, and then transmits the transcoded media files to a requester rather than the original compressed media files. Advantageously, the disclosed solutions provide a more bandwidth efficient downloading of media files to a requesting device. In addition, the disclosed solutions also fully support the seek function that is typically employed in media player devices. By correlating the requested original compressed media files time-wise with the generated transcoded media files, seek requests generated by a requesting device can be mapped to the appropriate or a close proximity to the transcoded media file.

Method and system for providing the download of transcoded files

Disclosed is a system and method that adds additional data (a banner, footer or a header, for example) to a web page while the data is transferred toward a mobile device. An exemplary system can comprise an intermediate node between a surfer and the Internet. Such an intermediate node element can reside at a service provider premises (SPP), for example. Method and system for inserting data in a web page that is transmitted to a handheld device

As part of the system and method of the present invention, either a Client Agent and/or a Predictive Server intercept a request from a client to a server, and a response from the server to the client. Based on information derived from the client/server communication, either the Client Agent or the Predictive Server generates a predictive request for data. The server's response to the predictive request is stored at either the Client Agent or the Predictive Server, and is forward to the client when the client generates a request for the data contained in the response.

System and method to accelerate client/server interactions using predictive requests

The rendering of markup language based files is accelerated by employing an apparatus to capture requests for markup language pages. The requested pages are retrieved and then examined to identify additional links that are contained therein. The markup language page is then modified by adding a trigger or tag into the page. The trigger or tag is basically a mechanism to automate a request for additional markup language information or pages. The trigger or tag, when received by the device requesting the markup language page, will invoke a request to obtain the markup language information or file represented by the tag. The tag can be a browser activated link or a JavaScript. A predictive module is used to review the additional links in the requested pages to identify a predicted next page to be downloaded or requested. This predicted next page or link can be a most likely candidate for what a user viewing the current page would request.
