A nozzle for connecting or disconnecting solder joints between head bonding pads of in a hard disk drive, includes a nozzle body including a tip, the tip disposed at a distal end of the nozzle body and configured to deliver or reflow a solder ball in proximity to head bonding pads; and a central duct disposed along a central axis of the nozzle body and configured to convey the solder ball to or from the tip. The tip includes a front face facing to a trailing edge of a slider, a back face facing to a top surface of a suspension supporting the slider, and two side faces adjacent to the front face and back face respectively, and at least one interference-free structure is provided at two adjacent faces of the tip at least, thereby no interference happens between the tip and elements adjacent to the slider during the operation.

Disclosed is a head stack assembly, which comprises a pivot bearing assembly having a main body which comprising a first end surface and a second end surface, and a flange extended from the main body and located between the first and second end surfaces, the flange having a first interface adjacent the first end surface of the main body and a second interface opposite to the first interface; a drive arm mounted on the main body and secured on the first interface of the flange; and a fantail spacer mounted on the main body and secured on the second interface of the flange.

Head stack assembly and disk drive unit with the same

An arm coil assembly includes a drive arm having at least two grounding pins formed on a mounting region thereof and a voice coil fixed on the tailing end of the drive arm for controlling the drive arm. The grounding pins are provided for electrically connecting with a flexible printed cable assembly by extending through at least two mounting holes formed on the flexible printed cable assembly. Each grounding pin has a slot formed thereon to clamp the flexible printed cable assembly. The arm coil assembly of the present invention having grounding pins with slot structure to clamp the flexible printed cable assembly which is mounted on the drive arm to form an arm flexible cable assembly, thus, the flexible printed cable assembly can be pre-mounted onto the arm coil assembly without using any additional fixtures or tools, therefore simplifying the mounting process and reducing the manufacturing cost thereof. An HSA comprises at least an HGA, a controlling circuit for controlling the HGA, and an actuator coil assembly comprising at least one top surface for mounting the HGA and a side surface for mounting the controlling circuit. The HGA has a first connection region parallel to the top surface, the first connection region has multiple first terminal pads formed thereon; the controlling circuit has a second connection region with multiple second terminal pads formed thereon, the second terminal pads are arranged in at least one row which is parallel to the top surface and the side surface, the first terminal pads are bonding to the corresponding second terminal pads to implement an electrical connection. The HSA has a compact structure as so to save space, and the connection way of the HGA and the controlling circuit is simple and solid.

Head stack assembly and hard disk drive with the same

A dimple forming apparatus for forming dimple on a workpiece at a desired position comprises a base mold with a concave surface, a heating unit and a forming pin with a spherical surface. The base mold is configured to be positioned below the workpiece. The heating unit is configured to heat the desired position of the workpiece for enhancing tractility of the desired position of the workpiece, and the forming pin is configured to be positioned above workpiece with the spherical surface of the forming pin aiming toward the desired position of the workpiece heated by the heating unit. The heating unit successfully enhances the tractility of desired position of the workpiece before the desired position of the workpiece is punched by the forming pin, and produces low stress at the junction of the dimple formed by the forming pin punching and the workpiece of the workpiece. The present invention also discloses a dimple forming method, a head gimbal assembly and a method for manufacturing a head gimbal assembly.

Certain example embodiments relate to a manufacturing method for a disk drive unit. At least one head gimbal assembly having first terminal pads is provided. A controlling circuit for controlling the at least one head gimbal assembly is provided, with the controlling circuit having second terminal pads to connect with the first terminal pads. The at least one head gimbal assembly is disposed in a motor base. The controlling circuit is disposed in the motor base. The at least one head gimbal assembly and the controlling circuit are tightened to the motor base such that the first and second terminal pads are face-to-face and have an electrical touch contact therebetween.

Manufacturing method of a disk drive unit

A suspension for supporting a head slider has a flexure, several trace patterns positioned on the flexure, front flexure-bonding pads disposed on the flexure at a position corresponding to a leading edge of the head slider and connected to the trace patterns, and rear flexure-bonding pads disposed on the flexure at a position corresponding to a trailing edge of the head slider and connected to the trace patterns. The front and the rear flexure-bonding pads and the trace patterns are integrally formed and disposed on the flexure at the same time, so the fabricating process is simplified and there is no alignment problem for bonding location. This can ensure the connection strength and position between the head slider and the suspension changeless and, in turns, ensure a good attitude of the head slider. The invention also discloses a HGA and a disk drive device with such suspension, and a fabricating method for the suspension.

A new fixture which is capable of holding an HAS throughout all processes so that Quasi-Static Test can be done before swaging. Also, a process for testing the HAS by means of the fixture. An embodiment method may include loading head gimbal assemblies and an actuator using an automatic loading machine; in-line dressing of the head gimbal assemblies; ultrasonic bonding of the head gimbal assemblies; testing said head gimbal assemblies in-line while quasi-static; and if an head gimbal assemblies fails to pass the testing, rejecting and reworking in-line; in-line coating of the head gimbal assemblies; ultra-violet curing of the head gimbal assemblies; in-line swaging said head gimbal assemblies and actuator to form an head stack assemblies; and visual checking and unloading of said head stack assemblies.

A low profile disk drive unit includes a disk; a HSA cooperating with the disk; a base plate comprising a bottom portion for supporting the disk and the head stack assembly thereon and a base plate sidewall extending from circumference of the bottom portion; and a top cover comprising a top portion and a top cover sidewall extending from circumference of the top portion and assembled with the base plate; wherein the top cover sidewall is thinner than the base plate sidewall, and the base plate sidewall is lower than the disk with the bottom portion as a reference datum so as to define an airflow channel between a periphery of the disk and the top cover sidewall of the top cover.

Low profile disk drive unit

In certain example embodiments, a shipping comb for assembling a disk drive is provided. The shipping comb has a comb block which includes a locking portion having a comb pin hole formed therein, at least one spacer, and a connecting beam to connect the locking portion and the at least one spacer. A comb pin is received in the comb pin hole of the locking portion. The comb pin includes at least two engaging portions. A controlling system has a comb latch selectively engagable with the at least two engaging portions so as to control the comb pin to move in the comb pin hole. In certain example embodiments, a method for assembling a disk drive using the shipping comb is provided.

A disk drive unit includes a first cover having a first part of magnet component and a head stack assembly mounted on the first cover; and a second cover assembled with the first cover, which having a second part of magnet component, a spindle motor and at least one disks. The invention also discloses a ramp tool used for assembling the disk drive which has its disk and HSA assembled in two different halves, which includes a tool body; and a holding means extending from the tool body to hold a lift tab of a head stack assembly in a loading status. The invention also disclose a method of assembling such as disk drive unit.

A new fixture which is capable of holding an HSA throughout all processes is invented so that Quasi-Static Test can be done before swaging. Handling operations are reduced and rework is made much easier. The invention further provides a process for testing the HSA by means of the fixture.
