A non-transitory computer-readable medium stores machine instructions that cause a processor to obtain a range-sample-antenna data cube for a received radar signal comprising reflections of a plurality of interleaved chirp sequences. The processor generates, for each chirp sequence, a Hankel matrix based on subset of range bins for the particular chirp sequence, and generates a block Hankel matrix based on the Hankel matrices for the plurality of interleaved chirp sequences. The processor performs truncated singular value decomposition to estimate subspaces, and object detection to identify selection matrices. The processor calculates least-squares approximations for the selection matrices and the block Hankel matrix to obtain, for each chirp sequence, a first phase shift matrix θand a second set of phase shift matrices θ, l=2, . . . , L. The processor performs joint diagonalization and Doppler division multiplexing compensation on θand θ, l=2, . . . , L, then resolves ambiguities in determined velocities based on comparison of θand θ, l=2, . . . , L.

Method and apparatus for processing joint multiple chirp sequences

Method and apparatus for determination of direction of arrival angle

A method for automatic multi-object localization and/or vital sign monitoring is provided. The method comprises the steps of receiving a radar signal in order to form a corresponding observation matrix, reducing noise by applying singular value decomposition to the observation matrix, processing the result of the singular value decomposition by an independent component analysis in order to estimate the corresponding sources, and estimating propagation channels of the estimated sources by minimizing the corresponding residual error based on the observation matrix and the estimated sources.

Method, system, and computer program product for automatic multi-object localization and/or vital sign monitoring

A mechanism is provided for determining an unambiguous direction of arrival (DoA) for radio frequency (RF) signals received by a sparse array. A DoA angle domain is split into hypothesis regions. The hypothesis regions are derived from the phase differences of the antenna element pairs used for the DoA angle estimate. In each hypothesis region, the ambiguous phase of antenna element pairs is unwrapped according to expected wrap-around. After unwrapping the phase, for each hypothesis region, a phasor is calculated by combining the individual antenna element pair phasors. The hypothesis region that obtains the phasor with a largest amplitude is selected as the most likely DoA region and the phase of the winning phasor is used as an unambiguous estimate for the DoA angle.
