A method of managing advertisement inventory in an internet advertising system is provided. The method comprises forecasting advertisement capacity using a plurality of predefined advertisement targeting parameters arranged in a tree structure to define a plurality of buckets, wherein each bucket is associated with a combination of the predefined advertisement targeting parameters. The method further comprises matching sold advertisement data with at least one of the plurality of predefined advertisement targeting parameters in the tree structure. The method further comprises determining available advertisement inventory by the inventory management system for the at least one predefined parameter by reducing the forecasted advertisement capacity by the matched sold advertisement data. The method further comprises delivering advertisements by an ad server to display devices associated with internet users who match the combination of predefined advertising targeting parameters of at least one bucket.

A system for preventing an unauthorized user in a networked computing environment includes a client computer provided with a visual test upon a request transmitted through a network by the client computer for a service, wherein the visual test is displayed on a video display, wherein the visual test requires the performance of a predetermined action on a group of images displayed on the video display in order to gain access to the service, wherein the group of images comprises at least two images that are associated with each other.

Preventing automated programs and unauthorized users in a network

Systems and associated methods for targeted ad delivery are described. In one aspect, a user profile includes at least one user content category identifier and a user interest score. The user interest score is increased by an amount if the content category identifier of a requested webpage matches the at least one user content category identifier. In a further aspect, the user interest score is indicative of a level of interest of the user in a content category identified by the at least one user content category identifier. In another aspect, the user interest score can be reduced according to a long-term decay rate that slowly reduces the user interest score. In another aspect, the user interest score can also be reduced according to a short-term decay rate that rapidly reduces the user interest score.

A method and system of generating a user profile for advertisement over a computer network is disclosed. A webpage identifier that identifies a webpage and a content category identifier that identifies a content category is generated. The webpage identifier is associated with the content category identifier if web content depicted in the webpage is relevant to the content category. A web server then receives a request for the webpage including the webpage identifier and a first user identifier from a client computer connected to the computer network. A user profile is located by determining whether the first user identifier matches a second user identifier corresponding to the user profile. The user profile includes at least one user content category identifier and a corresponding user interest score. The corresponding user interest score is increased by the predetermined amount if the content category identifier matches the user content category identifier.

A system and method are diminish the use of an automated program in a networked environment. A server can provide access to a service. In addition, a software module provides a client computer with a visual test upon a request transmitted through a network by the client computer for the service. The visual test requires the client computer to perform a predetermined action on a shaped object displayed on a video display in order to gain access to the service. A validation software module receives a request from the software module for the shaped object to be displayed on the video display. Further, the validation software module randomly selects a shaped object to be transmitted to the software module. The validation software module provides the software module with the shaped object. An access software module receives an access instruction from the validation software module if the client computer passes the visual test. The client computer can access the service if the client computer passes the visual test.
