A multi-lumen extension system may include a first lumen forming a fluidic channel within the multi-lumen extension system; a second lumen forming a non-fluidic channel within the multi-lumen extension system; a patency instrument housed within the second lumen; a seal between the first lumen and the second lumen to prevent fluid from entering the second lumen from the first lumen; and a grip formed along the second lumen and operatively coupled to the patency instrument housed within the second lumen to selectively advance the patency instrument along the second lumen.

Multi-lumen extension system

A fluid transfer device including a catheter, an introducer adapted to attach the device to a peripheral intravenous line (PIV), an actuator movably coupled to the introducer, and a catheter support movably coupled to the introducer. The catheter support is positioned between the actuator and the distal end of the introducer. The actuator moves the catheter between a first position disposed within the introducer and a second position where the end of the catheter extends beyond the end of the introducer and into the PIV. The catheter support includes a rigid or collapsible tether and a hub attached to the tether and defining a passageway. The catheter extends from the actuator through the passageway of the catheter support to the distal end of the introducer. As the actuator moves the catheter, the actuator contacts the catheter support and moves the catheter support with respect to the introducer.

System for reduced buckling of a probe during deployment of a blood draw device

A probe delivery device can include a probe delivery mechanism that facilitates advancing a probe through an IV catheter. The probe delivery mechanism can be housed within a compartment of the probe delivery device and can include a probe that extends from the compartment into a fluid pathway formed within the probe delivery device. A portion of the probe delivery mechanism can extend out from the housing to enable a clinician to advance and retract the probe. The probe delivery device may include a vacuum tube receiver or a connector to enable a blood draw or fluid injection to be performed using the probe delivery device.

Probe delivery device to facilitate the advancement and retraction of a probe within an intravenous catheter

A needle tip shield may include a needle passageway that may receive a needle, a tip shield interior space that may receive a needle block, and a fluid restriction member. The fluid restriction member may be configured to restrict fluid leakage into and/or out of the needle tip shield. The fluid restriction member may be selected from the group consisting of: (1) a fluid impedance member located adjacent the needle passageway that may impede fluid from entering into the needle tip shield through the needle passageway; (2) a fluid retention member that may retain fluid within the tip shield interior space; and (3) an anti-splatter member that may inhibit fluid splatter when the needle block moves from an open position to a closed position within the tip shield interior space.

Inhibiting fluid leakage and splatter in catheter devices and systems

A catheter system may include a catheter adapter, which may include a distal end and a proximal end. The catheter system may include a catheter, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, a catheter lumen extending through the distal end of the catheter and the proximal end of the catheter, and an inner surface forming the catheter lumen. The catheter may extend distally from the distal end of the catheter adapter. The distal end of the catheter may include one or more holes. The distal end of the catheter may include one or more channels. The holes and/or the channels may facilitate visualization of blood flashback indicating the catheter is disposed within a vein of a patient.

Confirmation of catheter placement within a vein

A catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter having a catheter extending from its distal end. The catheter may include a proximal end, a tip, and a length of tubing therebetween. The length of tubing may include one or more position indicators to indicate a position of the catheter relative to a vasculature. The catheter assembly may include an introducer needle extending through the length of tubing and comprising a sharp distal tip configured to introduce the catheter into the vasculature.

Catheter position indicator and related systems and method

An IV device assembly may include a lumen forming a fluidic channel within the IV device assembly. The lumen may be fluidically coupled to a vascular access device (VAD) coupler via a funnel coupler, and an IV device assembly coupler at a proximal end of the lumen. The IV device assembly may also include one or more of the following: a collapsible sleeve formed coaxially around a first portion of the lumen and mechanically coupled to the funnel coupler, a probe formed along a second portion of the lumen within the collapsible sleeve and into the VAD coupler, a translation handle that translates the probe out of a distal end of the VAD coupler, and a fixed grip formed around the lumen to maintain a position of the IV device assembly relative to the translation handle.

Vascular access device assembly facilitating single-handed probe advancement with a support member

An IV catheter device can include or being configured to employ a probe assembly having an integrated fluid flushing mechanism. The probe assembly can be configured in a variety of ways to cause flushing fluid to be injected through a fluid permeable structure of the probe as the probe is advanced distally from a catheter. In this way, the fluid permeable structure can be kept clear of any occlusion that may otherwise form. With the probe extending distally from the catheter, a blood sample may be collected.

Intravenous catheter device having a probe assembly with an integrated fluid flushing mechanism

An extension set may include a tube having an outer surface. An instrument, such as a tubing or a probe, may be disposed within the tube and may include a proximal end and a distal end. A translation handle may be coupled to the outer surface of the tube and may move along the outer surface between a proximal position and a distal position to translate the distal end of the instrument between a retracted position and an advanced position. In the advanced position, the distal end of the instrument may extend beyond the distal end of the tube and into a catheter assembly and/or vasculature of a patient.

Extension set and related systems and methods

An extravascular system is provided which includes a catheter adapter having a blood control septum configured to control flow of a fluid through the catheter adapter, the catheter adapter further having a catheter configured for intravenous insertion. The extravascular system further includes a septum activator slidably inserted within the catheter adapter and configured for advancement through the blood control septum to provide a fluid pathway through the blood control septum. Further still, the extravascular system includes an external safety mechanism comprising a needle hub and a needle shield interconnected via a tether, wherein the needle shield includes a safety clip that is configured to retain a sharpened end of the introducer needle within the needle shield. Some implementations further comprise an access port forming a portion of the catheter adapter and providing selective access to the lumen of the catheter adapter.

Ported IV catheter having external needle shield and internal blood control septum

Inserts can be formed with elution characteristics to cause the inserts to elute an antimicrobial agent when subject to a fluid within a medical device. An insert can be formed with a desired geometry to allow the insert to be compression fit within a medical device to prevent the insert from moving or becoming dislodged once inserted into the medical device. The material may also be hygroscopic so that the insert swells when subject to a fluid thereby enhancing the compression fit of the device within the medical device. In some cases, the material can be reinforced using an internal structure. Inserts can be formed in many ways including by casting, thermoforming, or extrusion. In some cases, the inserts can be formed using a peel-away sleeve or material. The peel-away sleeves can be formed of a non-sticky material which facilitates removal of the inserts once the inserts have cured.

Antimicrobial inserts for medical devices

A delivery device to deliver a tubular instrument into a catheter extending distally from a catheter adapter. The delivery device may include a housing configured to couple to the catheter adapter. The delivery device may include a tubular instrument configured to insert through the catheter. The tubular instrument may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a lumen extending between the distal end and the proximal end. The distal end may include a distal tip, which may be closed. The proximal end may be secured within the housing. The tubular instrument may be configured to advance distally with respect to the housing. A portion of the distal end proximate the distal tip may include a first material and maybe stiffer than the distal tip, which may include a second material. A durometer of the first material may be greater than a durometer of the second material.

Tubular instrument to reduce vein trauma and related devices and methods

A cap is configured to provide antimicrobial protection to a female luer port of an intravenous device. The cap distributes an antimicrobial solution within the intraluminal surfaces of the port when the cap is connected to the port. A cap may also be designed to distribute an antimicrobial solution around the exterior surfaces of the port. Once connected to a port, the cap can form a seal that minimizes the evaporation of the antimicrobial solution from within the lumen of a port. The cap can therefore provide antimicrobial protection against another device that is connected to the port once the cap is removed.

A catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter, a catheter, and a dressing to securely apply traction to the catheter where the catheter is disposed within a vasculature of a patient. The catheter adapter may include a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The catheter may extend from the distal end of the catheter adapter. The dressing may include a first section adjustably coupled to a second section. The first section may be configured to secure the catheter adapter and/or the catheter to the patient. The second section may be configured to be adjustably positioned relative to the first section to apply the traction to the catheter within the vasculature.

Dressing-based traction device and related systems and methods

A system to detect a position of a cannula may include a cannula, which may include a distal tip and an inner lumen. Also, the system may include an optical fiber, which may be disposed within the inner lumen of the cannula and may include a first end, a second end, and a U-shaped portion disposed between the first end and the second end. The U-shaped portion may be at least proximate the distal tip. Further, the system may include a light emitter, which may be coupled with the first end of the optical fiber, and a light receiver, which may be coupled with the second end of the optical fiber. Moreover, the system may include an electronic processor. The electronic processor may be coupled with the light receiver and configured to detect a decrease in an intensity of light received at the light receiver.
