A refrigeration system includes a vapor compression loop and a purge system in communication with the vapor compression loop. The purge system includes at least one separator including a sorbent material to separate contaminants from a refrigerant purge gas provided from the vapor compression loop when the sorbent material is pressurized.

Enhanced refrigeration purge system

A heat pump includes a vapor compression system and a cooling unit thermally coupled to the vapor compression system. A purge system is arranged in fluid communication with the vapor compression system. The purge system includes at least one separator operable to separate contaminants from a refrigerant purge gas provided to the purge system from the vapor compression system.

A method of purging contaminants from a refrigerant of a heat pump via a purge system includes generating a driving force across a separator, providing refrigerant including contaminants to the separator, separating the contaminants from the refrigerant within the separator, monitoring one or more parameters of the purge system and the heat pump, and actively controlling an operational parameter of the purge system in response to monitoring one or more parameters of the purge system and the heat pump.

A transport refrigeration unit is provided and includes a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve, an evaporator, piping fluidly coupling the compressor and the condenser, a fluid loop to produce heated fluid from an engine, which is configured to drive operations of the compressor, a heat exchanger disposed in the refrigeration cycle such that the heated fluid thermally interacts with refrigerant of the refrigeration cycle and a hot gas bypass valve to control a quantity of refrigerant removed from the piping.

Membrane purge system

A nonlinear coolant tube adapted for use in a heat exchanger core that is configured to port a hot fluid therethrough and a cold fluid therethrough while maintaining isolation of the hot fluid from the cold fluid, and including a hot circuit defining a hot circuit inlet, a hot circuit outlet, a first edge, and a second edge, the first edge distal the second edge, the first edge proximate the hot circuit inlet and the second edge proximate the hot circuit outlet. The nonlinear coolant tube is configured to provide a non-uniform heat transfer profile between the hot fluid and the cold fluid from the first edge to the second edge, such that a thermal resistance of the nonlinear coolant tube near the first edge is greater than the thermal resistance of the nonlinear coolant tube near the second edge.

Enhanced heat exchanger performance under frosting conditions

An electronic expansion valve, a heat exchange system, and a control for controlling an electronic expansion valve. The electronic expansion valve includes: a valve body; a first temperature sensor configured to detect an evaporator temperature T; a second temperature sensor configured to detect a compressor inlet temperature T; a third temperature sensor configured to detect a compressor outlet temperature T; a fourth temperature sensor configured to detect a condenser temperature T; and a controller, which is associated with the first temperature sensor, the second temperature sensor, the third temperature sensor and the fourth temperature sensor, and which adjusts an opening degree of the valve body based on temperature signals from the first temperature sensor, the second temperature sensor, the third temperature sensor and the fourth temperature sensor.

Electric expansion valve, a heat exchange system and a method of controlling the electric expansion valve

A refrigerated system includes a vapor compression system defining a refrigerant flow path and a heat recovery system defining a heat recovery fluid flow path. The heat recovery system is thermally coupled to the vapor compression system. The heat recovery system includes a first heat exchanger within which heat is transferred between a heat recovery fluid and an engine coolant and at least one recovery heat exchanger positioned along the heat recovery fluid flow path directly upstream from the first heat exchanger.

Heat-recovery-enhanced refrigeration system

A refrigerated system includes a heat recovery system defining a heat recovery fluid flow path. The heat recovery system includes an ejector having a primary inlet and a secondary inlet and a first heat exchanger within which heat is transferred between a heat recovery fluid and a secondary fluid. The first heat exchanger is located upstream from the primary inlet of the ejector. A second heat exchanger within which heat is transferred from a heat transfer fluid to the heat recovery fluid is upstream from the secondary inlet of the ejector. The air conditioning system includes a main circuit and a first subcooling circuit, wherein the main circuit has: a main compressor and an injector; a gas cooler and a gas-liquid separator connected between the main compressor and the injector; and a main throttling element and an evaporator connected between the gas-liquid separator and the injector; and wherein the first subcooling circuit has: a first subcooling compressor, a first condenser, a first subcooling throttling element and a first subcooler connected in sequence; wherein the first subcooler is further disposed in a flow path between the outlet of the injector and the gas-liquid separator.

A heat exchanger system includes a heat exchanger coil circulating a first heat transfer fluid therethrough, and a fan at least partially surrounded by the heat exchanger coil to urge a flow of air through the heat exchanger coil to dissipate thermal energy from the first heat transfer fluid. A brushless direct current fan motor is located the fan to urge rotation of the fan and an ancillary electrical component operably connected to the heat exchanger system and electrically isolated from the first heat transfer fluid.

Motor and drive arrangement for refrigeration system

Disclosed is a refrigeration system including a heat transfer fluid circulation loop configured to allow a refrigerant to circulate therethrough. A purge gas outlet is in operable communication with the heat transfer fluid circulation loop. The system also includes at least one gas permeable membrane having a first side in operable communication with the purge gas outlet and a second side. The membrane includes a porous inorganic material with pores of a size to allow passage of contaminants through the membrane and restrict passage of the refrigerant through the membrane. The system also includes a permeate outlet in operable communication with a second side of the membrane.
