A UE and a network element can exchange HTTP or Websocket messages to identify and request network resources needed for the UE to access and use application services. The network element can use requested network resources to cause the configuration of a connection between the UE and a radio access network.

Soft signaling for application service accessibility in advanced networks

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for Reflective Quality of Service (RQoS) enhancements. Methods may include enhancements for both UE behavior and network function behavior. Network function behaviors may include enhancements to UPF behavior and SPF behavior. Reflective QoS enhancements

In some aspects, the present disclosure relates to a method for performing packet flow description (PFD) management, the method including establishing a Quality-of-Service (QoS) flow between a user equipment (UE) and a core network (CN) for a data flow of an application, creating, by the UE, a UE-requested packet flow description (PFD) upon a change in the data flow, sending, from the UE to the CN, a request to the CN for updating a CN PFD to an updated PFD using the UE-requested PFD, receiving, at the UE from the CN, a downlink (DL) packet mapped to the QoS flow using the updated PFD.

UE-driven packet flow description management

Systems, methods, and mechanisms for performing ROHC header compression on TCP packets with MPTCP option enabled. A compressor may determine that a first portion of the stream of data packets is formatted according to the transmission control protocol (TCP) with a multipath TCP (MPTCP) option enabled. The compressor may establish context with a corresponding decompressor and may operate in one of three modes of compression based on the context. In some embodiments, when the context indicates that the corresponding decompressor supports decompression of TCP data packets with MPTCP option enabled, the compressor may operate in a first or second mode of compression. In some embodiments, when the context indicates that the corresponding decompressor does not support decompression of TCP data packets with MPTCP option enabled, the compressor may operation in a third mode of compression.

ROHC header compression for MPTCP

Some embodiments relate to a user equipment device (UE), and associated methods for performing ROHC header compression on TCP packets with MPTCP option enabled. In some embodiments, a compressor may determine that a first portion of the stream of data packets is formatted according to the transmission control protocol (TCP) with a multipath TCP (MPTCP) option enabled. Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively enhance the quality of service (QoS) configuration of a bearer of communications conducted over a cellular network between a UE application and a server. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or whether the UE is permitted to request or access enhanced QoS functionality. The UE may then send a request to the cellular network indicating the requested QoS parameters, and the network may adjust the QoS configuration of the bearer in response. The UE and the network may perform routine QoS measurements and exchange information in order to adaptively maintain and optimize the QoS configuration. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

Adaptive quality of service for latency-sensitive applications

Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively provide enhanced the quality of service (QoS) for an application. The UE may request a dedicated bearer or flow for communications conducted over a network between a UE application and a server associated with the application. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or determine whether to provide the enhanced QoS functionality, e.g., whether to request the dedicated bearer/flow from the network. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

UE assistance application detection and policy control in QoS deployment

A compressor may obtain information indicative of a transmit delay representative of a time duration that elapses between creation (e.g. by the compressor) of a packet and the transmission of the packet, e.g. over a wireless link. The transmit delay may be determined based at least on information indicative of the uplink capacity of the cellular network. The uplink capacity may be determined/obtained based on the uplink throughput and uplink power headroom. When the compressor receives a negative acknowledgement transmission/packet from the decompressor, if the transmit delay is not greater than a specified threshold value, the compressor may process the received negative acknowledgement packet. If the transmit delay is greater than the specified threshold value, the compressor may first discard the buffered compressed packet scheduled to be transmitted next to the decompressor, and transmit an initialization and refresh (IR) or IR dynamic packet to the decompressor instead.

Fast synchronization of compressor state and decompression state in marginal wireless coverage

A user equipment device (UE) may transmit, in a packet to a base station, information associated with resource configuration/resource requirement corresponding to wireless uplink communications of the wireless communication device. The base station may assign resources to the UE based on the received information. The UE may receive an uplink grant from the base station, with the uplink grant specifying resources for use by the wireless communication device during the uplink communications based on the information previously transmitted to the base station by the wireless communication device. The UE may send the packet at the time a voice call with the UE is initiated, and/or the UE may transmit the information during voice calls in response the UE changing one or more resource configuration parameters during the voice call. The UE may use Robust Header Compression packets of various types to transmit the resource configuration information.

ROHC-based link estimation and power saving in VoLTE

While operating in connected discontinuous reception (C-DRX) mode, a wireless communication device may initiate handover operations when a neighboring base station is determined by the wireless communication device to be a better serving cell than a base station operating as the current serving cell for the wireless communication device. Instead of transmitting a measurement report to the current serving cell, the wireless communication device may select one of the neighboring base stations as the new serving cell, responsive to measurements of the current serving cell and the neighboring cells performed by the wireless communication device during the on-duration of the C-DRX cycle. This enables a longer C-DRX cycle, which leads to the wireless communication device saving more power during non-real-time sensitive background data transmissions, while also avoiding higher handover failure rates and extra Radio Resource Control signaling that may need to be performed as a result of radio link failure.

User equipment triggered handover with long connected-discontinuous-reception cycle in connected mode

A system, apparatus and method to maintain continuity of a Voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) (VoLTE) call. The system includes a first user equipment (UE) configured to perform a (VoLTE) call and a second UE configured to perform the VoLTE call with the first UE. The UE's are configured to maintain continuity of the VoLTE call by determining when one of a first dedicated bearer linked to a first default bearer of the first UE or a second dedicated bearer linked to a second default bearer of the second UE is lost and transmitting a signal to an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server that prevents release of the determined dedicated bearer, the signal further triggering a re-activation of the determined dedicated bearer.

Apparatus, system and method for VoLTE call continuity

This disclosure relates to management of a secondary component carrier by a wireless device when using carrier aggregation. According to one embodiment, a primary component carrier for communication between a base station and a wireless device may be configured according to a first wireless communication technology. A secondary component carrier may also be configured. The wireless device may detect a trigger condition to deactivate the secondary component carrier. In response, the wireless device may modify its feedback to the base station with respect to channel conditions for the secondary component carrier to cause the base station to deactivate the secondary component carrier.

Carrier aggregation secondary component carrier management

A user equipment and a method performed by the user equipment. The user equipment includes a transceiver configured to enable the user equipment to establish a connection with a first network and a second network, the first network configured to provide signals to control a transmit power of the transceiver and a processor configured to control the transmit power of the transceiver. The processor controls the transmit power by determining at least one network operation of the user equipment, the network operation associated with a configuration of the connection with the LTE network, receiving a signal from the LTE network indicating an increase in the transmit power to be used and performing a power operation that adjusts the transmit power of the transceiver less than the increase indicated in the signal.

Optimizing transmit power in unit equipped to connect to first and second network

A user equipment (UE) and corresponding methods to conserve power by the UE. The UE includes a transceiver, the transceiver configured to enable the UE to establish a connection with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network and configured to operate using a Connected Discontinuous Reception (CDRX) functionality. The processor controls the transceiver by receiving an uplink (UL) grant at a first subframe of a frame of a cycle of the CDRX functionality, transmitting data based upon the UL grant at a predetermined second subframe, and receiving a response from the LTE network corresponding to one of an acknowledgement (ACK) and a negative ACK (NACK) at a predetermined third subframe. The processor deactivates the transmitter for a remainder of the frame based or deactivates a receiver for a remainder of the frame based upon whether the ACK is received.
