Embodiments herein include implantable medical devices including chemical sensors with bioerodible masking layers to allow for staged activation of the sensors. In an embodiment, an implantable medical device includes a substrate defining wells and a first chemical sensor and a second chemical sensor disposed within separate wells of the substrate. The first chemical sensor and the second chemical sensor can be configured to detect one or more analytes. The device can include a first bioerodible masking layer disposed over the second chemical sensor, sealing off the second chemical sensor. The device can further include a protective planarization layer disposed over at least one of the first chemical sensor and the second chemical sensor such that the outermost surface of the medical device over the first sensor is flush with the outermost surface of the medical device over the second sensor. Implantable chemical sensor with staged activation

Embodiments herein relate to systems and methods for combining data from different types of sensors. In an embodiment, a medical system is included. The medical system can include a first sensor configured to produce a first value for an analyte and a second sensor different than the first sensor, the second sensor configured to produce a second value for the analyte. The medical system can also include a controller configured to receive the first and second values. The controller can create a blended analyte value from the first value and second value. Systems and methods including electrolyte sensor fusion

Embodiments herein relate to chemical sensors for detecting a physiological analyte. In an embodiment, an implantable medical device including a chemical sensor for detecting an ion concentration in a bodily fluid is provided. The chemical sensor can include a sensing element having an outer barrier layer forming a top, a bottom, and opposed sides, where the top of the outer barrier layer can be created from a polymeric matrix permeable to sodium ions, potassium ions, and hydronium ions. An active agent can be disposed within the top of the outer barrier layer, the active agent having anti-inflammatory effects. The chemical sensor can include an optical excitation assembly configured to illuminate the sensing element. The chemical sensor can also include an optical detection assembly configured to receive light from the sensing element. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Implantable medical device with chemical sensor

Embodiments herein relate to implantable multimode analyte sensors and medical devices including the same. In an embodiment, an implantable medical device is included having an optical excitation assembly, an optical detection assembly and a multimode sensing element. The multimode sensing element can include a colorimetric response element specific for a first chemical analyte and a photoluminescent response element specific for a second chemical analyte. Multimodal analyte sensors for medical devices

Embodiments herein relate to optoelectronic interfaces for multimode analyte sensors for use with implantable medical devices. In an embodiment, an implantable medical device is included. The implantable medical device can include a first chemical sensor including an optical excitation assembly comprising a first visible spectrum emitter, a second visible spectrum emitter, and at least one of a near-infrared (NIR) emitter and an ultraviolet emitter. The first chemical sensor can also include an optical detection assembly including a colorimetric response detector, and a photoluminescent response detector. The first chemical sensor can also include a multimode sensing element including a colorimetric response element specific for a first chemical analyte, a photoluminescent response element specific for a second chemical analyte. Multimodal analyte sensor optoelectronic interface

An implantable device, such as a pacer, defibrillator, or other cardiac rhythm management device, can include one or more MRI Safe components. In an example, the implantable device includes a battery including a first electrode and a second electrode separate from the first electrode. The second electrode includes a first surface and a second surface. The second electrode includes a slot through the second electrode from the first surface toward the second surface. The slot extends from a perimeter of the second electrode to an interior of the second electrode. The slot is configured to at least partially segment a surface area of the second electrode to reduce a radial current loop size in the second electrode.

Implantable medical device including eddy current reducing battery

A medical device lead includes a proximal connector configured to couple the lead to a pulse generator, an insulative lead body extending distally from the proximal connector, and a conductor assembly extending distally from the proximal connector within the lead body. The conductor assembly includes a conductor having a proximal end electrically coupled to the connector and a distal end electrically coupled to a defibrillation coil. A first portion of the defibrillation coil is exposed at an outer surface of the medical device lead and a second portion of the defibrillation coil is insulated at the outer surface of the medical device lead.

Implantable medical leads having resistance characteristics adapted to dissipate radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy during medical procedures such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are disclosed. An illustrative medical device includes a lead having an inner electrical conductor operatively coupled to an electrode and a pulse generator, and one or more outer resistive shields that radially surround the inner conductor and dissipate RF energy into the surrounding body tissue along the length of the lead.

Leads with high surface resistance

An implantable medical device lead includes an inner conductor coil comprising one or more generally cylindrically wound filars. The inner conductor coil is configured to have a first inductance value greater than or equal to 0.2 &#x3bc;H/inch when the inner conductor coil is subjected to a range of radio frequencies. The implantable medical device lead also includes a multi-filar outer coil comprising two or more generally cylindrically wound filars. The multi-filar outer coil is configured to have a second inductance value greater than or equal to 0.1 &#x3bc;H/inch when the multi-filar outer coil is subjected to the range of radio frequencies.

Lead including conductors configured for reduced MRI-induced currents

Physiologic information can be received from a subject during a portion of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) session using a sensing circuit of an implantable medical device (IMD). An indication of an active MRI scan can be received, and a time period to inhibit use of physiological information from the subject can be determined following the received indication of the active MRI scan.

An implantable device, such as a pacer, defibrillator, or other cardiac rhythm management device, can include one or more MRI Safe components. In an example, the implantable device includes a capacitor including a first electrode including a first slot extending from a perimeter of the first electrode to an interior of the first electrode. A second electrode is separated from the first electrode by a first distance. The second electrode includes a second slot extending from a perimeter of the second electrode to an interior of the second electrode. The first and second slots are configured to at least partially segment surface areas of the first and second electrodes, respectively, to reduce a radial current loop size in each of the first and second electrodes.
