A display device according to one aspect of the present invention includes: a display unit that displays an image including a plurality of viewpoint images; and a separator that includes a plurality of first electrodes that form, at a first pitch, a plurality of first unit separators that separate the plurality of viewpoint images, a plurality of second electrodes that form a plurality of second unit separators at a second pitch which is different from the first pitch, and a liquid crystal layer. The plurality of first electrodes and the plurality of second electrodes are opposed to each other with the liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween.

According to an aspect, a display device includes: a position information acquiring unit that acquires position information on a position of a viewer; a separation unit that changes a position of an image separator based on the position information; an illumination unit that changes a direction of an optical axis of illumination light based on the position information of the viewer in synchronization with a timing at which the position of the image separator is changed; and a display unit that modulates the illumination light and displays an image including plural parallax images.

A display device includes a display unit including a display plane that displays an image and a parallax adjusting unit that is arranged to face the display unit and be able to switch a plurality of transmissive regions transmitting light and a plurality of non-transmissive regions restricting light, in which the transmissive regions and the non-transmissive regions are alternately in a first direction, and width of at least one transmissive region in the first direction among the plurality of transmissive regions or width of at least one non-transmissive region in the first direction among the plurality of non-transmissive regions is changed based on input information.

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a switching liquid crystal unit, a controller, and a display. The switching liquid crystal unit includes first and second polarizing layers, first and second substrate units, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate unit includes a first substrate provided between the polarizing layers, inner electrodes provided between the first substrate and the second polarizing layer, an insulating layer provided between the first substrate and the inner electrodes, and outer electrodes provided between the first substrate and the insulating layer. The second substrate unit includes a second substrate provided between the first substrate unit and the second polarizing layer, and a counter electrode provided between the second substrate and the first substrate unit. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the substrate units. The controller controls potentials of the electrodes. The display emits light including a parallax image.

According to an aspect, a display device includes: a plurality of first image regions; a plurality of second image regions arranged alternatingly with the first image regions; one or more first data lines arranged in each of the first image regions; one or more second data lines arranged in each of the second image regions; a constant potential line configured to receive a constant potential; a switching signal line configured to supply a switching signal; and a switching circuit configured to switch a coupling destination of each of the one or more second data lines between any one of the first data lines arranged in a corresponding first image region adjacent to a respective second image region and the constant potential line, based on the switching signal.

Display device having switchable 2D and 3D modes

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a switching liquid crystal unit, a display, and a controller. The switching liquid crystal unit includes optical elements switching an aperture pattern including an aperture portion and a light-shielding portion. The display overlaps the switching liquid crystal unit and displays parallax images including right and left eye images. The controller acquires positional information relating to a position of a viewer, and controls a position of the aperture pattern. The controller switches the aperture pattern from a first aperture pattern to a second aperture pattern so that a right eye always views the right eye image and a left eye always views the left eye image, and starts the switching before the viewer moves to an optimal switching position where a luminance viewed from the first aperture pattern is substantially equal to a luminance viewed from the second aperture patterns.

According to an aspect, a display device includes a display part having pixels and a color filter; and a barrier part in which unit areas arranged above the display part, arranged in rows in a first direction, and extending in a second direction intersecting with the first direction. The barrier part includes a barrier substrate that has barrier electrodes arranged for each unit area and extending in the second direction, a counter substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and spacers arranged between the barrier substrate and the counter substrate. Each of the spacers is arranged between one barrier electrode out of the barrier electrodes and the other barrier electrode adjacent to the one barrier electrode, and overlaps with a filter of a color different from a color of a filter of the color filter that overlaps with a spacer adjacent to the spacer in the second direction.

Display device

A liquid crystal lens is formed with a first electrode formed on a first substrate and two or more second electrodes formed on a second substrate in a stripe pattern. Different voltages are applied to the second electrodes. The plurality of second electrodes exist at the boundary between a first liquid crystal lens and a second liquid crystal lens, and accept the maximum voltage of the different voltages. As a result, the liquid crystal lens can be moved in accordance with the movement of the visual line, the first and second liquid crystal lenses can be separated, and also a refractive index distribution of the liquid crystal lens can be close to a quadratic curve, thereby enabling to prevent the crosstalk.

According to an aspect, a display device includes a first display panel including a first protective layer; a second display panel including a second protective layer; and a connection part that connects the first display panel and the second display panel. The connection part includes a portion of a flexible substrate included in the first display panel and the second display panel, and the first protective layer and the second protective layer have higher strength than the flexible substrate.

A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel, a light blocking barrier, and a sensor. The apparatus has a barrier driving controlling unit, a display controlling unit, and a display mode decision unit to decide a display mode of an image to be displayed on the panel. The barrier driving controlling unit controls, when it is decided that the display mode is a first mode, driving of the barrier so that the position of the light blocking section of the barrier is moved in response to the position of the viewer detected by the sensor. The display controlling unit controls, when it is decided that the display mode is a second mode, the display of the panel so that the display position of the left-eye and the right-eye images on the panel is moved in response to the position of the viewer detected by the sensor.

Liquid crystal display device and driving method therefore as well as electronic apparatus

A naked-eye type display apparatus which makes a viewer recognize a stereoscopic image and can prevent pseudoscopic perception is provided. A barrier part having a function of separating a left eye image and a right eye image from each other at a normal viewing position at which the left eye image enters a left eye and the right eye image enters a right eye is provided, and a barrier part having a function of blocking entrance of the left eye image into the right eye or entrance of the right eye image into the left eye when a viewer is at a pseudoscopic position is provided. In this manner, even when the viewer is at the pseudoscopic position, the pseudoscopic perception can be prevented.
