A two stage process useful for cetane upgrading of diesel fuels. More particularly, the invention relates to a process for selective naphthenic ring-opening utilizing an extremely low acidic distillate selective catalyst having highly dispersed Pt. The process is a two stage process wherein the first stage is a hydrotreating stage for removing sulfur from the feed and the second stage is the selective ring-opening stage.

Selective ring opening process for producing diesel fuel with increased cetane number

A hydrocracking catalyst is provided that includes a crystalline molecular sieve material component having a faujasite structure and an alpha acidity of less than 1, preferably 0.3 or less, and a dispersed Group VIII noble metal component. The extremely low acidity allows selective hydrocracking of the aromatic and naphthenic species in a feedstock, while limiting the cracking of paraffins. The catalyst produces improved yields of products, such as diesel fuel, at high conversion rates and with high cetane values.

Noble metal containing low acidic hydrocracking catalysts

A process, preferably in a counter-current configuration, for selectively cracking carbon-carbon bonds of naphthenic species using a low acidic catalyst, preferably having a crystalline molecular sieve component and carrying a Group VIII noble metal. The diesel fuel products are higher in cetane number and diesel yield.

A process is provided for selectively producing diesel fuel with increased cetane number from a hydrocarbon feedstock. The process includes contacting the feedstock with a catalyst which has a large pore crystalline molecular sieve material component having a faujasite structure and alpha acidity of less than 1, preferably about 0.3 or less. The catalyst also contains a dispersed Group VIII noble metal component which catalyzes the hydrogenation/hydrocracking of the aromatic and naphthenic species in the feedstock.

Process for producing diesel fuel with increased cetane number

A process for catalytic cracking and C3/C4 olefin alkylation with phosphorus stabilized faujasite catalyst is disclosed. Catalytic cracking produces C3 and C4 olefins, which are alkylated using phosphorus stabilized and water activated cracking catalyst. Spent alkylation catalyst may be discharged into the FCC unit.

A zeolite catalyst composition having increased resistance to agglomeration and/or migration of its noble metal component at high temperatures and a method for preparing the catalyst composition are disclosed. The zeolite catalyst composition contains non-framework multivalent alumina which is obtained by calcining the zeolite at a temperature of at least 600.degree. C. in moist air (10 to 100 torr water).

Thermally stable noble metal-container zeolite catalyst

The present invention relates to a process for upgrading multi-branched C.sub.9 + olefinic and/or paraffinic by-products of heavy hydrocarbon upgrading processes including alkylation, polymerization, and MOGD, to high octane gasoline. Feeds rich in multi-branched C.sub.9 + olefins and/or paraffins are contacted with hydrogen at a pressure in the range of about 200 psig to about 2000 psig in the presence of an unsulfided catalyst composition comprising a low acidity molecular sieve having an Alpha Value of 5 or less. Because of the capability of the catalyst to crack at unsubstituted carbon-carbon bonds, the paraffinic products are more highly branched, and thus higher in octane number than those obtained from conventional dual function hydrocracking catalysts having Alpha Values greater than 5.

Process for converting multi-branched heavy hydrocarbons to high octane

An improved method for removing organic residue from ZSM-18 which can be used during zeolite synthesis or with an as-synthesized ZSM-18. When used during synthesis, a minute amount of noble metal is incorporated into the ZSM-18. Alternatively, a noble metal-containing precursor is impregnated onto as-synthesized ZSM-18. Thereafter, ZSM-18 united with the noble metal is reduced in hydrogen at 200.degree. C. for about 1 hour. Next, ZSM-18 united with the noble metal is calcined at 300.degree. C. for 10-24 hours, and subsequently at 500.degree. C. for 1-3 hours thereby producing a ZSM-18 material that is free of organic residue.

The present invention provides a two-stage process for production of high-octane naphtha range isoparaffins from a feed rich in normal and/or slightly branched paraffins. In the first stage, the normal and/or slightly branched paraffins are selectively converted to multi-branched paraffins and then cracked in a second stage to yield naphtha range isoparaffins which can be blended into a high-octane gasoline pool.

Process for the selective hydrocracking of distillates to produce naphta

A process is described for redispersing agglomerated metal on a catalyst. The catalyst comprises noble metal on a low acidity oxide support, and the process comprises contacting the catalyst with a gas stream containing about 3 to about 6 Torr chlorine and about 250 to about 750 Torr oxygen under conditions sufficient to achieve redispersion.

A zeolite catalyst composition having increased resistance to agglomeration and/or migration of its noble metal component at high temperatures and a method for preparing the catalyst composition are disclosed. The zeolite catalyst composition contains a non-framework multivalent metal oxide to stabilize the noble metal. The multivalent metal oxide, such as alumina, can be introduced into the zeolite component by diffusion, impregnation, ion-exchange, and/or calcination.

Thermally stable noble metal-containing zeolite catalyst

There is provided a process for redispersing agglomerated noble metals such as platinum over the surface of certain tetrahedral crystalline oxides containing oxides of aluminum and phosphorus. Examples of such crystalline oxides include aluminophosphate (i.e. AlPO.sub.4 s), silicoaluminophosphates (i.e. SAPOs), ELAPSOs, MeAPOs, FeAPOs, TiAPOs and FCAPOs. The agglomerated noble metals may be redispersed by containing the supported noble metal with a suitable treating agent such as a stream of gas comprising molecular chlorine.

Reactivating catalysts containing noble metals on molecular sieves

A process for preparing noble metal-containing zeolites having high noble metal dispersion comprises (a) contacting a zeolite material with a cationic noble metal complex; (b) calcining the resulting meterial in the presence of molecular oxygen at about 300.degree. to 375.degree. C. for a time sufficient to cause decomposition of said complex; (c) purging oxygen and water from the calcined material in an inert atmosphere at 200.degree. to 350.degree. C.; and (d) reducing the purged material with hydrogen at 200.degree. to 350.degree. C. for a time sufficient to reduce the cationic noble metal to highly dispersed free metal.

Process for preparing noble metal-containing zeolites

The acidity of a zeolite catalyst is reduced by calcination in an essentially water-free atmosphere at temperatures above 700.degree. C., preferably from 725.degree. to 800.degree. C., to reduce the alpha value to less than about 10 percent of its original value. The low acidity catalysts produced in this way may be used for conversions requiring low acidity, shape selective catalysis, including dewaxing. The calcined, low acidity catalysts exhibit improved dewaxing activity.
