A method for displaying a visual representation corresponding to a carriage capacity may include obtaining passenger data of passengers onboard a carriage of a multi-carriage vehicle. The method may further include predicting, based at least in part on the first passenger data, a number of passengers who will exit the carriage at a destination. The method may further include determining, based at least in part on the predicting, an available capacity for the carriage and generating a visual representation that corresponds to the available capacity. The method may further include displaying the visual representation at the destination of the multi-carriage vehicle.

Distribution management for public transit vehicles

Described is a framework that manages a clustered, distributed NoSQL data store across multiple server nodes. The framework may include daemons running on every server node, providing auto-sharding and unified data service such that user data can be stored and retrieved consistently from any node. Embodiments are provided for balancing storage resources in a distributed database. According to certain aspects, various hardware components may facilitate a three-stage technique including a node balancer technique, a shard balancer technique, and a replica balancer technique. The node balancer technique may create a set of pods from a set of nodes residing across a set of storage racks. The shard balancer technique may redistribute, among the set of pods, a portion of a set of shards assigned to respective pods of the set of pods. The replica balancer technique may, for each pod, distribute the set of replicas so that the replicas reside across the storage racks of that pod.

An online direct marketing and advertising system is presented in which advertisers have an opportunity to send targeted promotions, coupons and offers that are placed in a user's web-based email account without the drawbacks of sending conventional email. The promotions do not take up disk quota space and, at the same time, the system does not need to divulge private user information to the advertiser. This system provides a means to free web-based email providers from the need to obtain opt-in permission to send offers to their users as providers are frequently prohibited from sharing the user's email address and personal information with merchants.

A virtual link bandwidth control scheme is described that is a software-based mechanism for achieving distributed and coordinated bandwidth control. The scheme can be seamlessly integrated with the data transfer protocols utilizing queuing delay as part of rate control mechanism for data transfer and allows multiple processes to self-limit their transfer speeds, so that the aggregate rate stabilizes at a pre-configured level below the physical bottleneck capacity.

Method and system for aggregate bandwidth control

A data transfer system and method are described for providing transfer of data over a network between a sender and a plurality of receivers. Data is sent over a network to the plurality of receivers by the sender at a specified rate regardless of data loss. A receiver that identifies a lost block of data transmits a retransmission request to the sender. The sender responds to one or more retransmission requests by transmitting a repair packet to all receivers that contains blocks of data for which retransmission requests have been received.
