Machine learning techniques may be applied to determining a mode of transportation for a trajectory of a sequence of user locations. The mode of transportation, such as walking, bicycling, riding in a car or bus, riding in a train, or other mode, may be determined by creating a training set of data, then using classification mechanisms to classify trajectories by mode of transport. The training set may be generated by tracking then verifying a user's transportation mode. In some cases, a user may manually input or verify their transportation mode, while in other cases, a user's transportation mode may be determined through other data sources.

Trajectory analysis with mode of transportation analysis

A user's location may be estimated by applying a probability function to raw user location data taken from various telephony or wireless systems. The probability function may estimate a user's location based on a training dataset that may be generated a priori to the analysis. A training dataset may be generated or updated by analyzing queries made with global positioning system (GPS) data to extract a device's GPS location. The probability function may be generated in part from physical maps. The estimated location may improve location accuracy, especially when attempting to map a user's location with accuracies that may be much smaller than a cell of a cellular telephony system.

Mobility observations may be analyzed to create so-called mobility genes, which may be intermediate data forms from which various analyses may be performed. The mobility genes may include a trajectory gene, which may describe a trajectory through which a user may have travelled. The trajectory gene may be analyzed from raw location observations and processed into a form that may be more easily managed. The trajectory genes may be made available to third parties for analysis, and may represent a large number of location observations that may have been condensed, smoothed, and anonymized. By analyzing only trajectories, a third party may forego having to analyze huge numbers of individual observations, and may have valuable data from which to make decisions.

Mobility gene for visit data

A visit mobility gene may be generated from analyzing raw location observations and may be made available for further analysis. The visit mobility gene may include summarized statistics about a certain location or location type, and in some cases may include ingress and egress travel information for visitors. The visit mobility gene may be made available to third parties for further analysis, and may represent a concise, rich, and standardized dataset that may be generated from several sources of mobility data.

Estimating a location of a device at a particular point of time may incorporate one, two, or more different location data points. The location data points may be derived from communications networks, where there may be different mechanisms for determining location. As part of the location estimation, each cellular location in a cellular network may have a different error range associated with each cell, for example. The error range for each cell may be generated by collecting precise location data from Global Positioning System or other mechanism with high accuracy, and comparing that data to location data gathered from other sources. A database of error ranges for each cell and each location mechanism may be gathered and used to estimate the actual location of a device for a given time period.

Trajectory analysis through fusion of multiple data sources

Real time status of a device's movements may be determined from a sequence of location observations. The status may be in the form of a state, which may be 'stay', 'transit', &#x201c;pause&#x201d;, and &#x201c;unknown&#x201d;. A state transition may occur from transit to stay when the device has remained within a predefined radius for a predefined time period. Prior to being labeled a &#x201c;stay&#x201d;, a device that may have ceased moving but has not stayed at that location for enough time may be labeled &#x201c;pause&#x201d;. For those devices in a &#x201c;transit&#x201d; state, a mode of transport may be determined. The real time analysis system may be a low-overhead mechanism by which new location observations may be received and processed. The resulting data may be used by traffic analysts to monitor congestion, for real time traffic data for commuters, and other uses.

Real time trajectory identification from communications network

A system including is plurality of resistors, a plurality of comparators, and a decoder module. The resistors are connected in series between a supply voltage and a common voltage. A first input of each comparator is connected to a reference voltage. A second input of each comparator is respectively connected to one of a plurality of nodes between the resistors. The decoder module is configured to receive an output from each comparator and to output a plurality of bits based on the output of each comparator. Each of the plurality of bits indicates a different one of a plurality of voltage ranges. A present value of the supply voltage lies in one of the plurality of voltage ranges.

Hysteretic inductive switching regulator with power supply compensation

A linear regulator and methods of regulation are provided. In one implementation, a linear regulator is provided. The linear regulator can receive an input voltage, generate an internal bias voltage in response to the received input voltage. The linear regulator can determine if the input voltage meets one or more first criteria and second criteria, and adjust an output voltage based on the internal bias voltage if the input voltage meets the one or more first criteria. The linear regulator also can supply the input voltage directly to the load if the input voltage meets the one or more second criteria. In some implementations, the linear regulator can generate an internal bias voltage that is clamped within a desired operating range if the input voltage meets the one or more first criteria, and adjusts one or more electronic circuits using the internal bias voltage to provide the adjusted output voltage.

Linear regulation for use with electronic circuits

The power required by a voice coil motor (VCM) to maintain the head in the data region of a disk drive during an idle mode is further reduced. The current supplied to the VCM is switched on and off. This takes advantage of the inherent capacitance and inductance in the VCM, which maintains a current after the current supply is switched off. The current will slowly decay, with it being switched on again before it reaches a level where the average value won't offset the flex bias. In one embodiment, the current is maintained in a single direction, to offset the flex bias which pushes in one direction. Digital switches are used to reduce the power consumption of the control circuitry.

VCM PWM control architecture for power saving in hard disk drives

A voltage regulator includes a converter module, N comparators, and a decoder module. The converter module includes (N+1) resistors connected in series between a supply voltage and a common voltage, where N is an integer greater than 1. Each of the (N+1) resistors has a value that is different than values of others of the (N+1) resistors. The N comparators have first inputs connected to a reference voltage, and second inputs respectively connected to N nodes between the (N+1) resistors. The decoder module receives outputs of the N comparators and generates an R-bit output, where R is an integer greater than 1. Each bit of the R-bit output indicates a different one of R voltage ranges. A present value of the supply voltage lies in one of the R voltage ranges.

A driver circuit includes a first transistor having a first node coupled to a high supply voltage and a second node coupled to an output node, wherein the first transistor passes the high supply voltage to the output node based on a first gate voltage on a gate of the first transistor. The driver circuit also includes a second transistor having a first node coupled to a low supply voltage and a second node coupled to the output node of the driver circuit, wherein the second transistor passes the low voltage to the output node based on a second gate voltage on a gate of the second transistor. The driver circuit further includes a logic block configured to control a slew rate of an output signal Vout at the output node by controlling a slew rate of the first gate voltage and controlling a slew rate of the second gate voltage.

A motor driver comprises a first power supply, a second power supply, a multiplexer, and an output power module. The first power supply provides a first power signal after a first period. The second power supply provides a second power signal after a second period, where the second period is longer than the first period. The multiplexer initially selects the first power signal and then selects the second power signal. An output power module controls a motor and receives power from an output of the multiplexer.

A linear regulator is described that includes a mode selection circuit. In one implementation, the mode selection circuit is operable to receive an input voltage and to set an operation mode to one of a first mode or a second mode (e.g., based on a voltage level of the input voltage) so as to generate an output voltage. For example, when the voltage level of the input voltage is within a voltage range, the mode selection circuit can set the first mode as the operation mode to supply the input voltage as the output voltage to a load without voltage regulation. Similarly, when the voltage level of the input voltage is outside the voltage range, the mode selection circuit can set the second mode as the operation mode to regulate the output voltage to the load.
