This disclosure, in general, relates to nonwoven abrasive belts including flexible butt joints and methods of making and using such belts and joints.

Nonwoven abrasive belt with flexible joint

Articles and methods regarding the making and use of low-shedding nonwoven abrasive articles, such as abrasive wheels and hand pads, that have a low shed rate and achieve a high grind ratio. The abrasive articles comprise a blend of a plurality of primary abrasive particles and a plurality of reinforcing abrasive particles that is disposed on a nonwoven web substrate. The primary abrasive particles have an average particle size equal to or larger than the average fiber diameter of the substrate fibers, and the reinforcing abrasive particles have an average particle size smaller than the average fiber diameter.

Low-shedding nonwoven abrasive articles

The present disclosure relates to abrasive buffing articles ('abrasive buffs') and methods of making the same. The abrasive buffs include a substrate, such as a fabric, that has been impregnated with an abrasive polymeric composition that includes abrasive particles, such as primary abrasive particles and/or abrasive aggregates, such as spray dried abrasive aggregates. The abrasive buffs are flexible and capable of conforming to and effectively abrading, polishing, and buffing workpieces possessing a complex geometry.

An engineered coated abrasive product having a three dimensional pattern of abrasive structures formed by embossing an abrasive slurry formulation that was first surface coated with a functional powder, wherein the abrasive slurry includes green, unfired abrasive aggregates having a generally spheroidal or toroidal shape, the aggregates formed from a composition comprising abrasive grit particles and a nanoparticle binder. The coated abrasive product is capable of finishing and repairing defects in surfaces, including coated surfaces.

An abrasive article comprising abrasive grains bonded with a binder comprising a matrix polymer and an amphiphilic block copolymer dispersed in the matrix polymer. The abrasive article can be a coated abrasive article, such as an engineered abrasive article, including a backing. The binder can bind the abrasive grains to the backing.

Durable coated abrasive article

A surface-modified abrasive grain includes an abrasive grain as a substrate, and a film on the abrasive grain that includes a relatively hydrophilic silane component and a relatively hydrophobic silane component. The film can be a single film layer or multiple film layers, wherein a film layer most proximal to the abrasive grain has a predominately hydrophilic silane component, and a film layer more distal to the abrasive grain includes predominately a relatively hydrophobic silane component. Coated abrasive products and bonded abrasive products include the surface-modified abrasive grains.
