A razor blade has a first and a second portion. The first portion has a cutting edge at an exterior end and is angled relative to the second portion by a bending process. A bent region that can be arcuate is intermediate the first and second portions. The razor blade is manufactured from martensitic stainless steel being mostly iron and having (by weight): 0.40 to 0.60% C; 0.30 to 0.55% Si; 0.70 to 0.90% Mn; 13.0 to 14.0% Cr; 0.50 to 1.0% Mo; and 0.03 to 0.2%, more preferably 0.03-0.1% N.

Razor blade and composition for a razor blade

A method for shaping a coating on a razor blade is provided. The method includes the steps of: a) providing a razor blade having a tip end defined by at least one tip surface; b) applying a surface coating having a first thickness on at least one tip surface; and c) shaping the applied surface coating on the at least one tip surface to have a second thickness using a centrifuge, which second thickness is less than the first thickness.

Method of shaping a surface coating on a razor blade using centrifugal force

A method for shaping a coating on a razor blade, and a razor blade produced using the aforesaid method, are provided. The method includes the steps of a) providing a razor blade having a tip end defined by at least one tip surface and a cutting edge; b) applying a surface coating having a first thickness on at least one tip surface; and c) shaping the surface coating on the at least one tip surface to have a second thickness using a fluid stream, which second thickness is less than the first thickness.

Method of shaping a surface coating on a razor blade

A razor cartridge includes razor blade assemblies having an inter-blade guard attached to a side of a razor blade. The razor blade is formed from strip that is manufactured including a thermal oxidation process to form a chromium oxide layer on the side surface of the razor blade. This oxide film prevents electrochemical corrosion of the razor blade that may be visible to a user and prevents real or perceived premature failure of the razor blade and thus the razor cartridge during its extended life. The razor blade assembly may also have an array of closely spaced droplets of a liquid adapted to inhibit corrosion of the razor blade applied to the side of the razor blade visible to a user.

Razor blade technology

An elongated flat strip of martensitic stainless steel material for use in manufacturing razor blades is provided with an elongated weakened portion. The weakened portion is provided after hardening, sharpening and cutting edge coating processes are performed. The weakened portion is provided by the application of laser energy that forms a groove along a side of the razor blade and converts previously tempered martensite to untempered martensite in the weakened portion. The razor blade is attached to a support and removed at the weakened portion. The weakened portion can be provided before or after the razor blade is attached to the support.
