A composition useful in the manufacturing of plastic cookware includes a polyetherimide resin and an acidic additive selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acids having a vapor pressure less than one atmosphere at 300&deg; C., aromatic carboxylic acids having a vapor pressure less than one atmosphere at 300&deg; C., and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing acidic additives. In one embodiment, the composition further comprises an additional resin, such as a polyester resin. The acidic additive is effective in improving the mold release and increasing the melt flow of the composition. Articles including the composition and a method for preparing the composition are also described.

Transparent thermoplastic resin compositions include a polyetherimide resin, a polyester resin, sodium benzene phosphinate, and optionally 3,4-epoxy cyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxy cyclohexanecarboxylate and preferably comprising a first polyester resin and a second polyester resin and sodium benzene phosphinate, wherein from 50 to 100 mole percent of the structural units of the first polyester resin include an alicyclic hydrocarbon radical as the diol residue of the structural unit, and wherein less than 50 mole percent of the structural units of the second polyester include an alicyclic hydrocarbon radical as the diol residue of the structural unit, exhibit resistance to elevated temperature and improved impact properties.

Polyetherimide resin/polyester resin blends having improved visual clarity

Visually clear thermoplastic resin compositions include a polyetherimide resin, a first polyester resin and a second polyester resin, wherein from 50 to 100 mole percent of the structural units of the first polyester resin include an alicyclic hydrocarbon radical as the diol residue of the structural unit, and wherein less than 50 mole percent of the structural units of the second polyester include an alicyclic hydrocarbon radical as the diol residue of the structural unit, exhibit resistance to elevated temperature and improved impact properties.

Polyetherimide resin/polyester resin blends

The present invention is directed to a unique poly(arylene ether)/polyetherimide composition having improved impact strength, as well as other improved mechanical and physical properties. This composition comprises: about 40 to about 90 pbw of a polyetherimide resin; about 8 to about 60 pbw of a functionalized poly(arylene ether) resin having a base titratable functionality level of at least 30 .mu.eq/g; and about 0.2 to about 35 pbw of a copolymer of an olefin and an epoxy-functionalized monomer; and may further include catalysts, gloss improvers, stabilizers, and other additives.

Poly(arylene ether)/polyetherimide blends and methods of making the same

The present invention is directed to a thermoplastic resin composition comprising one or more polyetherimide resins; one or more polyester resins; at least one epoxy compound having one or more epoxy functional groups per molecule in an amount effective to improve at least one of impact resistance, hydrolytic resistance, and tab-bending performance of a molded specimen of the composition; and optionally, at least one catalyst in an amount effective to improve at least one of impact resistance, hydrolytic resistance, and tab-bending performance of a molded specimen of the composition as compared to the same composition not containing the catalyst. It was unexpectedly found that the compositions exhibited enhanced heat, impact, hydrolytic resistance, and/or enhanced tab-bending performance over other compositions known in the art. In a preferred embodiment, the epoxy compound contains 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexanecarboxylate and the catalyst contains sodium stearate.

Polyetherimide resin/polyester resin blends having improved properties

Color stable thermoplastic resin compositions include a polyetherimide resin, polyester resin and phosphorus and/or phenol containing color stabilizers, and exhibit resistance to elevated temperature, elimination of black specks, and improved mechanical properties.

A thermoplastic resin composition that includes a polyetherimide resin and a phosphorus-containing stabilizer that exhibits a low volatility. The thermoplastic resin composition exhibits improved melt stability and improved resistance to thermal degradation.
