A light-emitting apparatus includes a base, a first semiconductor radiation emitting diode, having a top surface and a side wall, disposed on the base, a transparent structure disposed on the base and surrounding the side wall and covering the top surface, and a phosphor structure placed within the transparent structure surrounding the side wall and covering the top surface. The first semiconductor radiation emitting diode has a width smaller than that of the base and is configured to emit a light which can be converted into a forward transferred down-converted radiation light and a back transferred down-converted radiation light by the phosphor structure. At least a portion of the forward transferred down-converted radiation light and the back transferred down-converted radiation light are emitted toward the base.

Lighting source using solid state emitter and phosphor materials

A light fixture includes a light source, a wavelength-conversion material, and a reflector. The light source is configured to emit a first radiation, and has a front surface and a back surface. The wavelength-conversion material is arranged under the front surface and configured to convert the first radiation to a second radiation which has a first portion not able to reach the reflector and a second portion able to reach the reflector. The reflector is arranged over the back surface and configured to reflect the second portion away from the light source without passing through the wavelength-conversion material. The reflector has an end distant from the light source and is arranged in an elevation different from that of the wavelength-conversion material.

Scattered-photon extraction-based light fixtures

A light emitting apparatus includes a first radiation source without a dome, a substantially transparent and light transmissive optic device, a lens, a down conversion material, and a heat sink. The optic device is devoid of scattering particles and phosphor, and includes a planar top surface distal the first radiation source, a bottom surface proximal the first radiation sources, and a transparent sidewall extending between the top surface and the bottom surface. The down conversion material includes a flat layer including phosphor that is disposed on the planar top surface of the optic device between the lens and the radiation source. The heat sink, upon which the radiation source is mounted, has a recess formed therein in which an air space is defined between a boundary of the recess and the optic device.

Scattered-photon extraction-based fixtures

A light-emitting apparatus includes a substrate, a light source configured to emit light and arranged on the substrate, a phosphor layer being apart from the light source and configured to convert the light into forward transmitted light and backward transmitted light, and an optic device, being narrower than the substrate and having a transparent side wall, configured to direct at least a portion of the backward transmitted light through the transparent side wall and toward the substrate. In another aspect, a light-emitting apparatus includes a transparent base, a light source on the transparent base, a transparent material covering the light source, a phosphor layer on the transparent material, and a transparent wall on the phosphor layer.

A light emitting apparatus has a first radiation source without a dome, a substantially transparent and light transmissive optic device devoid of scattering particles and phosphor, a lens, a down conversion material containing phosphor that is disposed on the planar top surface of the optic device between the lens and the radiation source, and a heat sink, upon which the radiation source is mounted, having a recess formed therein in which the radiation source, the optic device and the down conversion material are positioned, wherein an air space is defined between a boundary of the recess and the optic device.

A scattered photon extraction light fixture includes an optic element having a first surface; a light source for emitting short wavelength radiation, the light source disposed opposite, perpendicular, or tangential to the first surface of the optic element; a wavelength-conversion material, disposed on the first surface of the optic element, for receiving and down converting at least some of the short wavelength radiation emitted by the light source and transferring a portion of the received and down converted radiation; and one or more reflectors positioned opposite the wavelength-conversion material. A scattered photon extraction light system includes a plurality of light emitting fixtures. One or more wavelength-conversion materials, in the embodiments of the present invention, are disposed remotely from the light source(s), and used to absorb radiation in one spectral region and emit radiation in another spectral region. Lighting efficiency is improved by capturing the short wavelength and down-converted radiation.

A light emitting apparatus has a light source for emitting a first light in a forward direction. A wavelength-converting layer is spaced apart from the light source and disposed in a path of the first light. The wavelength-converting layer is configured to absorb at least a portion of the first light and emit a second light. A reflective layer is configured to be reflective of at least the second light, and the wavelength-converting layer is disposed between the reflective layer and the light source.

An embodiment discloses a light-emitting apparatus including a light source for emitting a first light; a wavelength-converting layer, having a first arcuate shape, spaced apart from the light source, the wavelength-converting layer configured to absorb at least a portion of the first light and emit a second light; a transparent member disposed between the light source and the wavelength-converting layer; and a monolithic reflective layer having a second arcuate shape and configured to be reflective of at least the second light; wherein the wavelength-converting layer is positioned between the monolithic reflective layer and the light source, and the monolithic reflective layer is separated from the wavelength-converting layer by a space; and wherein the second light is configured to pass through the space before being reflected by the monolithic reflective layer.

A light emitting apparatus has a radiation source for emitting short wavelength radiation. A down conversion material receives and down converts at least some of the short wavelength radiation emitted by the radiation source and back transfers a portion of the received and down converted radiation. An optic device adjacent the down conversion material at least partially surrounds the radiation source. The optic device is configured to extract at least some of the back transferred radiation. A sealant substantially seals a space between the radiation source and the optic device.

High-power white LEDs and manufacturing method thereof

A light emitting apparatus has a radiation source for emitting multi-colored radiation. A diffuser material receives at least a portion of the multi-colored radiation emitted by the radiation source and converts the multi-colored radiation into forward transferred radiation and back transferred radiation. An optic device is coupled to the diffuser material and is adapted to receive the back transferred radiation and extract at least a portion of the back transferred radiation from the optic device.

Lighting system using multiple colored light emitting sources and diffuser element

A light emitting apparatus includes a source of light for emitting light; a down conversion material receiving the emitted light, and converting the emitted light into transmitted light and backward transmitted light; and an optic device configured to receive the backward transmitted light and transfer the backward transmitted light outside of the optic device. The source of light is a semiconductor light emitting diode, a laser diode (LD), or a resonant cavity light emitting diode (RCLED). The down conversion material includes one of phosphor or other material for absorbing light in one spectral region and emitting light in another spectral region. The optic device, or lens, includes light transmissive material.
