A method of operating a motor includes providing an electric system coupled with the motor, the electric system including parallel inverter legs; subjecting the motor to a first interleaving angle when the electric system is under a first condition; and subjecting the motor to a second interleaving angle different from the first interleaving angle when the electric system is under a second condition; wherein the steps of subjecting the motor to the first interleaving angle and subjecting the motor to the second interleaving angle occur within continuous operation of the electric system and the motor.

A permanent magnet machine includes a machine housing having an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. The permanent magnet machine also includes a stator disposed within the machine housing, the stator having a stator core having an exterior surface extending between a first face and a second face along the central longitudinal axis, wherein the exterior surface defines a discontinuous region that is arranged to minimize points of contact between the inner surface and the exterior surface. The discontinuous region is at least partially defined by at least one of a first perturbation and a second perturbation that is circumferentially spaced apart from the first perturbation.

Permanent magnet machine

An electrical composite assembly includes a plurality of composite material macro-wires each including a magnetic material embedded within a nonmagnetic matrix. The magnetic material can be selected from magnetic microwires, magnetic nanowires, chains of magnetic nanoparticles, and chains of magnetic microparticles. The plurality of composite material macro-wires are included in an electrical component, where the electrical component is selected from a rotor, a stator, and an electromagnetic shield.

A failure detection system for an energy network includes a radio frequency (RF) receiver adapted to be coupled with or in close proximity to the energy network, the RF receiver providing an amplitude modulated RF signal; an RF amplifier receiving the amplitude modulated RF signal and providing an amplified signal; an envelope detector receiving the amplitude modulated RF signal and providing a demodulated envelope signal; an optional algorithm implementation system receiving the demodulated envelope signal, where the optional algorithm implementation system processes the demodulated envelope signal by one or more of a Fast Fourier transform (FFT) trigger system and a phase-locked loop (PLL) trigger system; and a signature output that is the overall output signal of the failure detection system, wherein the signature output is adapted to indicate whether the energy network is experiencing partial discharge.

The machine housing has an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. The stator has a stator core having an exterior surface and an interior surface, each extending between a first face and a second face along the central longitudinal axis. The stator core defines a plurality of openings that extend from the first face towards the second face.

Permanent magnet machine stator

A transverse flux machine includes a stator assembly consisting of a plurality of shaped cores, each having a base with a plurality of legs with a corresponding gap between each leg and each leg having a winding. A rotor assembly is positioned adjacent the stator assembly and includes a rotor disc, and a rotor ring with a plurality of rotor poles interleaved with a plurality of interpoles. The plurality of rotor poles and plurality of interpoles are radially disposed around the rotor disc. The plurality of rotor poles include a plurality of focused rotor poles interleaved with a plurality of diffused rotor poles.

Transverse flux machines

A single stack transverse flux machine includes a rotor assembly having an internal rotor disc with a rotor shaft extending from and rotating with the internal rotor disc, and a rotor ring having a plurality of stator poles interleaved with a plurality of interpoles. The plurality of stator poles and the plurality of interpoles are radially disposed around the internal rotor disc. Each stator pole has a plurality of core components spaced apart from one another. Primary magnets are interposed between the plurality of core components. The machine also includes a stator assembly with a plurality of shaped cores, each shaped core having a base with a plurality of legs with a corresponding gap therebetween. Each leg has a winding, and the shaped cores are positioned so that each leg is juxtaposed with a corresponding one of the plurality of core components and has an air gap therebetween.

Single stack multiphase transverse flux machines

An axial flux machine (AFM) includes a rotor rotatably disposed between a pair of fixed stators. The rotor and the stators are formed of tape-wound laminated cores of ferromagnetic material. In addition, the rotor includes multiple layers of angled magnets that circumscribe the rotor. Such configuration enables the axial flux machine to achieve a high airgap flux density while achieving a high saliency ratio and lowered cogging torque as compared to current generation AFMs.

An acoustic noise mitigation system for an electric machine includes one or more suspension members. The suspension members may include arcuate members that are positioned between a machine housing and a stator. During operation of the electric machine, the electromagnetic force frequency that is generated by the stator relative to a rotating rotor is able to be absorbed by the suspension members. As a result, acoustic noise generated by the electric machine is reduced.

A control system for a switched reluctance machine includes a capacitor and an inverter connected to the capacitor, wherein the inverter generates current signals and a ripple current returned to the capacitor. A switched reluctance machine (SRM) receives the current signals and generates a position signal. A controller receives the ripple current, current signal values of the current signals, and the position signal and generates desired reference current waveforms received by the inverter to adjust the current signals received by the SRM.

Embodiments provide an integrated motor-compressor assembly including a volute casing housing a rotating impeller to compress a fluid passing therethrough, a stator fixedly positioned in the volute casing proximate to the impeller, the stator including stator poles axially spaced from the impeller, each of the stator poles including a stator winding, the stator windings being supplied with current to generate sufficient axial magnetic flux for rotating the impeller.

Integrated motor compressor for vapor compression refrigeration system

A smart sensor network for power grid health monitoring includes a plurality of spaced sensors that are magnetically coupled to the power transmission line to be monitored. The sensors include a signal injection unit and a signal sensing unit. As such, one of the sensors acts to inject, via its signal injection unit, a high frequency signal through the magnetic coupling into the power transmission line, while sensors on either side of the signal injecting sensor act to block the injected signal, which is then detected by the signal sensing unit of the injecting sensor, and is used to measure the impedance of the power transmission line segment being analyzed. Based on the difference between a pre-measured impedance of the power transmission line being monitored and the actual impedance value of the power transmission line being measured by the sensor, the health of the power line can be obtained.

System and method for monitoring the condition of electricity conductor support systems, i.e. towers, in a power network distribution system employing a tower structure integrity sensor assemblage. The system allows for identifying particular portions of a structural system for maintenance attention. The tower sensors allow identification of structural failures of electricity transmission towers.
