A method implemented by a system for manufacturing a device having a coated transparent substrate is provided. The method includes providing the device having a transparent substrate. The method also includes coating the transparent substrate with a first transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layer in accordance with one or more parameters. The coating the transparent substrate comprises performing a physical deposition process on the transparent substrate. The method further includes determining a resistance across the first TCO layer. In addition, the method includes determining whether the resistance across the first TCO layer is within a resistance range. The method also includes in response to determining that the resistance across the first TCO layer is within the resistance range, coating the device with a second TCO layer in accordance with the one or more parameters to provide a resistance across the second TCO layer that is within the resistance range.

Resistivity control of coated glass units for uniformity improvement

An electrochemical device and method of forming said device is disclosed. The method can include providing a substrate and stack overlying the substrate. The stack can include a first transparent conductive layer over the substrate, a cathodic electrochemical layer over the first transparent conductive layer, an anodic electrochemical layer over the electrochromic layer, and a second transparent conductive layer overlying the anodic electrochemical layer. The method can include depositing an insulating layer over the stack and determining a first pattern for the second transparent conductive layer. The first pattern can include a first region and a second region. The first region and the second region can be the same material. The method can include patterning the first region of the second transparent conductive layer without removing the material from the first region. The first region can have a first resistivity and the second region can have a second resistivity.

Made-to-stock patterned transparent conductive layer

An apparatus including a substrate with at least three sides and an active stack on the substrate. The active stack can include a first transparent conductive layer, a second transparent conductive layer, an anodic electrochemical layer, and a cathodic electrochemical layer. The apparatus can also include a first bus bar set comprising a plurality of bus bars, wherein each bus bar of the first bus bar set is electrically coupled to the first transparent conductive layer, a second bus bar set comprising a plurality of bus bars, wherein each bus bar of the second bus bar set is electrically coupled to the second transparent conductive layer, and a bus bar arrangement wherein the bus bar arrangement comprises a bus bar from the first bus bar set and a bus bar from the second bus bar set on at least three sides of the substrate.

Apparatus to maintain a continuously graded transmission state

An apparatus can include an electrochromic device configured to be maintained a continuously graded transmission state. When using the apparatus, the electrochromic device can be switched from a first transmission state to a continuously graded transmission state and maintained in the continuously graded transmission state. The current during switching can be higher than current during maintaining the continuously graded transmission state. In an embodiment, the grading can be reversed to provide a mirror image of the grading. In another embodiment, at least 27% and up to 100% of the electrochromic device can be in a continuously graded transmission state. The control device can be located within an insulating glass unit, adjacent to the insulating glass unit, or remotely from the insulating glass unit. In a further embodiment, a gap between bus bars can be used to form a portion of the electrochromic device that can be continuously graded.

Apparatus including an electrochromic device configured to maintain a continuously graded transmission state

An electrochromic apparatus is disclosed. The electrochromic device can include a first bus bar electrically connected to a first transparent conductor, where the first bus bar comprises a first segment between a second segment and a third segment, where the first segment has a first thickness that is less than a second thickness of the second segment and less than a third thickness of the third segment. The electrochromic apparatus can further include a first voltage supply terminal that is offset from a center of the first bus bar.

Bus bar design of an IGU with graded transmission state

Various embodiments relate to an electrochromic (EC) device that is structured with surface contour features arranged according to a randomized pattern. For example, one or more conductive layers of an EC device may be structured with such surface ablations. In some embodiments, the randomized ablation pattern may comprise a randomized variation in one or more geometrical characteristics of a group of segments. In some examples, the geometrical characteristic(s) may include a distance characteristic, an orientation characteristic, and/or a shape characteristic, etc. According to various embodiments, the randomized ablation pattern may be configured to reduce diffraction and/or scatter of light incident on the surface ablations as compared to some other ablation patterns.

Controlled randomization of electrochromic ablation patterns

A method of operating an electrochromic device comprising: coupling a logic device to the electrochromic device; applying a voltage to the electrochromic device; receiving a current from the electrochromic device in response to the provided voltage; and with the logic device, determining an exact operating condition of the electrochromic device from the received current. A method of operating a plurality of electrochromic devices comprising: adjusting a frequency of voltage applied to the plurality of electrochromic devices, wherein each of the plurality of electrochromic devices is adjusted by a different frequency; measuring a duration of time required to change tint states of each of the electrochromic devices; and identifying a location of each of the plurality of electrochromic devices in response to the measured duration of time required to change the tint states of each of the electrochromic device.

Electrochromic devices and methods associated therewith

An apparatus can include an electrochromic device. When using the apparatus, the electrochromic device can be switched from a first transmission state to a continuously graded state and maintained at continuously graded transmission state. An apparatus can include an active stack with a first transparent conductive layer, a second transparent conductive layer, an anodic electrochemical layer between the first and the second transparent conductive layers, and a cathodic electrochemical layer between the first and the second transparent conductive layers. The apparatus can further include a first bus bar electrically coupled to the first transparent conductive layer, a second bus bar electrically coupled to the second transparent conductive layer, where the second bus bar is generally non-parallel to the first bus bar, and a third bus bar electrically coupled to the first transparent conductive layer, where the third bus bar is generally parallel to the first bus bar.

A method can be used to control the operation of one or more non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices. In an embodiment, a method of operating a plurality of non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices can include receiving requests for requested visible transmittance for the non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices; determining operating parameters for the non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices; and operating the non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices at the operating parameters, wherein the operating parameters for the non-light-emitting, variable transmission devices are different. In another aspect, the method can include operating the non-light-emitting, variable transmission device at a first operating parameter for a time period, wherein the operating parameter corresponds to an intermediate visible transmittance; generating a characterization parameter based at least part on the voltage and current measurements that are obtained during the time period; and controlling the non-light-emitting, variable transmission device period based at least in part on the characterization parameter.

Apparatus for operating a non-light-emitting variable transmission device and a method of using the same

A load management system including a number of sensors structured to sense characteristics of a managed area, a controller including a processor structured to estimate occupancy of the managed area based on outputs of the number of sensors and to implement a load management scheme, a number of circuit breakers, at least one of the number of circuit breakers being electrically connected to a corresponding load circuit and including a metering circuit structured to meter energy provided to the load circuit and a device control unit structured to control one or more load devices electrically connected to the load circuit based on the load management scheme. The processor is structured to implement the load management scheme based on outputs of the sensors and metering information of one or more of the circuit breakers.
