A communication device includes a long-rage transceiver, a short-range transceiver and a processor. The long-range transceiver is configured to communicate wirelessly with a Base Station (BS) of a cellular network. The short-range transceiver is configured to communicate wirelessly with one or more peer communication devices over a short-range network. The processor is configured to communicate with the peer communication devices via the short-range transceiver and with the BS via the long-range transceiver, so as to share resources between the communication device and the peer communication devices or the cellular network, for providing a communication service.

Collaboration among wireless devices operating over both long-range and short-range networks

A method of operating a terminal in a wireless telecommunications system comprising the terminal and a network node, wherein the method comprises: determining there is data to be transmitted from the terminal to the network node using a series of repeat transmissions; establishing an initial arrangement of transmission resources to be used for transmitting respective ones of the repeat transmissions from the terminal to the network node; starting to transmit the series of repeat transmissions to the network node using transmission resources according to the initial arrangement; establishing before the transmission of the series of repeat transmissions to the network node is complete that a modified arrangement of transmission resources should be used for transmitting at least some of the remaining repeat transmissions; and starting to transmit the at least some remaining repeat transmissions to the network node using transmission resources in accordance with the modified arrangement.

Telecommunications apparatus and methods

A communication device includes a modem and circuitry. The modem communicates with a cellular network that is linked to a data network to which one or more target servers are coupled. The circuitry is configured to hold a token that identifies the communication device for assignment to a selected service plan in a management server of the cellular network, to trigger, based on the token, an onboarding request to the management server for assigning the selected service plan to the communication device, and, after the selected service plan has been assigned to the communication device in the management server, to communicate with a target server, via the cellular network and over the data network, in accordance with the selected service plan.

Automated activation and onboarding of connected devices

A method includes receiving a signal from a remote transmitter via an electrically-tunable antenna having a tunable element. An adjustment, to be applied to a response of the electrically-tunable antenna, is calculating by analyzing the received signal. The response of the electrically-tunable antenna is adapted by controlling the tunable element responsively to the estimated adjustment.

Passive automatic antenna tuning based on received-signal analysis

A cellular device architecture, including two application processors connectible through a Modem-AP Switch to two modems, each communicating with a respective antenna. A Controller module coupled to the switch and being configured, in response to receipt of data received in the Modem-AP switch as received through an antenna, to command the switch to select a processing route, whereby one of the application processors is switched to connect to one of the modems and to its associated antenna.

Switched application processor apparatus for cellular devices

A communication device includes a transmitter (TX), a receiver (RX), one or more adaptively-tunable Electrically-Small Antennas (ESAs), and a control unit. The transmitter is configured to produce a TX signal for transmission on a TX frequency band. The receiver is configured to process an RX signal received on an RX frequency band. The adaptively-tunable ESAs are configured to transmit the TX signal on the TX frequency band and to receive the RX signal on the RX frequency band. The control unit is configured to adaptively tune respective responses of the one or more ESAs in the TX or RX frequency band.

Wireless device with adaptively-tunable electrically-small antennas

A method for communication in a receiver () includes receiving over a wireless communication channel a signal that carries at least a control channel. A first estimate of a response of the wireless communication channel is computed using a first estimation process having a first latency, and the control channel is decoded based on the first estimate. Upon identifying, based on the decoded control channel, a time period during which no data channel is to be addressed to the receiver, circuitry () of the receiver is shut down for at least part of the identified time period. A second estimate of the response is computed using a second estimation process having a second latency, higher than the first latency, and a data channel that is addressed to the receiver is decoded based on the second estimate.

Intermittent shutoff of RF circuitry in wireless communication terminals

A method for communication in a wireless device () includes establishing a first connection with a base station (BS-) of a long-range wireless data network, and a second connection on a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). A time interval () is selected in the wireless device for communicating over the second connection. In preparation for the selected time interval, the BS is caused to refrain from scheduling data transmission from the wireless device to the BS over the first connection during the time interval, by reporting to the BS prior to the time interval that no data is pending for transmission from the wireless device. The wireless device communicates over the second connection on the WLAN during the time interval.

LTE/Wi-Fi coexistence

A method for communication includes communicating between one or more first base stations (A) and first wireless communication terminals (A) using a first alternating pattern () of downlink time intervals and uplink time intervals. A time offset is selected between the first alternating pattern and a second alternating pattern (), which is used by one or more second base stations (B) for communicating with second wireless communication terminals (B), so as to minimize impact of interference between the first and second wireless communication terminals. The first base stations are synchronized relative to the second base stations according to the selected time offset.

Mitigation of interference between communication terminals in TD-LTE

A processor includes one or more processing units, an execution pipeline and control circuitry. The execution pipeline includes at least first and second pipeline stages that are cascaded so that program instructions, specifying operations to be performed by the processing units in successive cycles of the pipeline, are fetched from a memory by the first pipeline stage and conveyed to the second pipeline stage, which causes the processing units to perform the specified operations. The control circuitry is coupled, upon determining that a program instruction that is present in the second pipeline stage in a first cycle of the pipeline is to be executed again in a subsequent cycle of the pipeline, to cause the execution pipeline to reuse the program instruction in one of the pipeline stages without re-fetching the program instruction from the memory.

Enhancing processing efficiency in large instruction width processors

A method for communication includes allocating, in a multiple-access communication system () that uses multiple subcarriers, first subcarriers to a first communication terminal for transmitting first data, and second subcarriers to a second communication terminal for transmitting second data. The first communication terminal is assigned to modulate the first data onto at least some of the first subcarriers using a first multi-carrier modulation scheme, to produce a first signal. The second communication terminal is assigned to modulate the second data onto at least some of the second subcarriers using a second multi-carrier modulation scheme, which has a reduced peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) relative to the first multi-carrier modulation scheme, to produce a second signal. Simultaneous communication is carried out with the first and second communication terminals by simultaneously receiving the first and second signals over the first and second subcarriers.

Low peak-to-average power ratio transmission in frequency-division multiple access systems

A communication terminal includes a Radio Frequency (RF) unit and a baseband processor. The baseband processor is coupled to receive from the a servicing base station (BS) information indicating an extent of synchronization between the servicing BS and at least one other BS of the wireless communication network, and to process received signals, responsively to the extent of the synchronization specified in the received information, so as to cancel interference caused to the signals received from the servicing BS by signals transmitted by the at least one other BS.

Time synchronization in wireless communication networks

A terminal () for use in a wireless network () includes a radio frequency (RF) receiver (), which is configured to receive and downconvert a RF signal. The RF signal includes downlink frames, each downlink frame including at least an allocation zone followed by a data zone. The allocation zone contains an indication of a time allocation in the data zone during which downlink data will be transmitted to the terminal. An analog/digital (A/D) converter () converts the output signal from the RF receiver into a stream of digital samples. A digital processing circuit () processes the digital samples so as to identify the time allocation and to recover the downlink data transmitted during the identified time allocation, while shutting down the RF receiver during at least one interval during the downlink frame that is outside the identified time allocation.
