A light source useful for architectural lighting, general lighting, street lighting, or other lighting applications includes a plurality of light emitting diodes. A least some light emitting diodes can be sized between 30 microns and 500 microns. A plurality of micro-optics sized less than 1 millimeter are positioned over at least some of the plurality of light emitting diodes. A controller may be connected to selectively power groups of the plurality of light emitting diodes to provide different light beam patterns.

Low Z-height LED arrays with controllable light beams

Various embodiments include apparatuses and methods enabling a wireless control apparatus for an LED array. In one example, a control apparatus includes a wireless module to receive a signal from a wireless control-device. The wireless signal may include signals related to a desired CCT value and a Dvalue. A control unit is coupled to the wireless module to translate signals received from the wireless module. The control unit is also coupled to the LED array and to an LED driver. The control unit receive powers for the LED array from the LED driver and provides the power to the LED array in a manner based on the translated signals. A dimmer emulator is coupled to the control unit to provide one or more control signals to the LED driver. Other apparatuses and methods are described.

Wireless color tuning for constant-current driver

A LED lighting module is described that is realized as a printed circuit assembly. The LED lighting module has a carrier with a strip of dielectric material and conductive circuit tracks printed on the dielectric material. Bare LED dies are mounted in a linear formation on the carrier. The width of the LED die formation does not exceed 0.75 mm and the area of the emission face of an LED die does not exceed 0.0625 mm2. Drivers are mounted on the carrier and are connected to drive the LED dies.

LED lighting module

A light engine and system are disclosed in which the light engine contains a core comprising an opening extending through opposing surfaces and a flexible printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB includes a flexible body disposed on an outside of the core and having independently addressable sets of illumination sources mounted thereto, and flexible legs extending from the body and through the opening. The legs are bent such that a terminal portion of each leg is substantially parallel to the opposing surfaces of the core. Independent control of the sets of illumination sources is provided via the legs. The body is separated into segments, each on a different section of the outside and containing body contacts electrically independent of the body contacts of each other segment. Each leg is associated with a different segment, and contains leg contacts on the terminal portion in electrical contact with the associated body contacts.

Light engines with dynamically controllable light distribution

An apparatus and system are disclosed and include a vehicle interior lighting system comprising that includes a light engine with a plurality of independently addressable light emitting diode (LED) segments, each independently addressable LED segment including at least one LED, a flexible printed circuit board (PCB) having a base and plurality of legs extending from the base, each leg supporting an independently addressable LED segment, and a light guide plate configured to provide illumination from the plurality of independently addressable LED segments inside the vehicle. A processor may be configured to receive information from a o vehicle sensing system, a vehicle communication system, or a detection system, and may generate a signal. A controller may be configured to provide one or more light control signals to modify at least one light characteristic of at least one of the plurality of independently addressable LED segments based on the signal.

A LED assembly includes a baseplate and a diffuser. A circuit board connected to the baseplate has a first set of LEDs directed to emit light toward the diffuser. Additionally, a frame is attached to the baseplate and positioned to surround the circuit board. A flexible circuit with a second set of LEDs is attached to the frame, with the LEDs positioned to emit light predominantly perpendicular with respect to the first set of LEDs.

Wide beam angle LED assembly

An interface currents channeling circuit may be used to convert two current channels of a conventional two-channel driver into three driving currents for the three strings of LEDs. By doing so, the same two channel driver can be used for applications requiring just two LED arrays as well as three LED arrays.

Method for wide-range CCT tuning that follows the black body line using two independently controlled current channels and three CCTs

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for controlling a multicolor LED array. The light engine includes a dimming emulator that supplies high and low supply voltages to a driver dependent on a duty cycle of PWM signals from a control unit. An optical coupler isolates the low supply voltage from ground of the dimming emulator. The control unit receives power for the array from the driver dependent on the supply voltages and controls the array based thereon. The coupler is coupled to a control terminal of an NPN transistor, the PWM signals change the average impedance of the coupler based on the duty cycle and change a voltage divider ratio applied to the control terminal. Other apparatuses and methods are disclosed.

Unversal dimming emulator for LED driver

Various embodiments include apparatuses and methods control apparatus to color tune a light-emitting diode (LED) array. In one specific example, a control apparatus to color tune a light-emitting diode (LED) array for perceptually uniform color-tuning is disclosed. The apparatus includes a correlated color temperature (CCT)-control device that is adjustable by an end-user to a desired color temperature of the LED array and producing an output signal corresponding to the desired color temperature. A storage device is electrically coupled to the CCT-control device to correlate a mechanical movement range of the CCT-control device to provide substantially uniform increases in perceptual CCT values from the LED array based on a set of N predetermined values. Other apparatuses and methods are described.

Control design for perceptually uniform color tuning

A light-emitting apparatus can reduce flicker and retain power efficiency. A method can include driving, by a light emitting element (LEE) driver circuit, first, second, and third LEEs using a pulse width modulation (PWM) driving scheme to generate light of a first color, the first, second, and third LEEs configured to emit different colors, alternating, by the LEE driver circuit, between driving the first, second, and third LEEs using a hybrid driving scheme and the PWM driving scheme, and after alternating between driving the first, second, and third LEEs in the hybrid and PWM driving schemes, driving, by the LEE driver circuit, the first, second, and third LEEs using the hybrid driving scheme.

Lighting apparatus with reduced abrupt brightness changes

A system may include a light source. A converter may be configured to convert an AC voltage to a DC operating voltage during normal operation. A power backup device may be coupled to the converter. A current source may have a first terminal configured to receive the DC operating voltage during regular operation and a second terminal configured to provide a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal to an anode end of the light source. A switching device may have a first connecting terminal coupled to the anode end of the light source, a second connecting terminal coupled to the power backup device, and a control terminal coupled to the converter. The switching device may be configured to open a switch between the first connecting terminal and the second connecting terminal during normal operation and close the switch upon detecting an interruption of the DC operating voltage at the control terminal.
