Embodiments of the present invention pertain to automatically removing contaminants from a manufactured part. According to one embodiment, a first robotic arm automatically holds the manufactured part. A second arm automatically sprays the manufactured part with a solution that causes contaminants to be removed from the manufactured part. The solution is collected. The collected solution contains the contaminants that were removed from the manufactured part.

An integrated pivot-carriage for a hard-disk drive. The integrated pivot-carriage includes a carriage having a center-bore with an integrated bearing-spacer portion. The integrated pivot-carriage also includes a pivot-shaft configured to provide support for rotation of the carriage. The pivot-shaft is disposed within the center-bore of the carriage. In addition, the integrated pivot-carriage includes at least one raceless ball-bearing that is configured to allow rotation of the carriage about the pivot-shaft. The raceless ball-bearing is disposed between the pivot-shaft and the carriage.

A disk drive spoiler for reducing particle accumulation in a hard disk drive is provided. The spoiler includes a body portion for directing airflow generated by a rotating disk, the rotating disk comprising a middle diameter and an outer diameter wherein the body portion directs airflow away from the outer diameter of the disk. The spoiler also includes an end portion for directing airflow away from the middle diameter of the disk towards the outer diameter of the disk wherein the body portion comprises a substantially similar width between the middle diameter and the outer diameter.

Apparatus and method for reducing particle accumulation in a hard disk drive

A disk device with disk contamination control having a spindle for rotating at least one disk. A spindle hub located on the spindle. A disk clamp for clamping the at least one disk on the hub. A magnetic clamp seal magnetically and removably attached to the disk clamp wherein the magnetic clamp seal encapsulates disk contaminants between the clamp and the clamp seal. The magnetic clamp seal magnetically collects metallic contaminants within a sealed housing.

Magnetic and encapsulation contamination control for disk drives

A method and apparatus for a filter for filtering airborne particles present within an enclosure containing equipment sensitive is provided. The filter may be used within the enclosure of a hard disk drive. The filter may comprise a magnetic plate enclosed by a protective layer, which in turn may be enclosed by a non-woven scrim. The magnetic plate has a magnetic property that generates a magnetic field attractive to paramagnetic particles within the enclosure. The protective layer forms a barrier that prevents particles of the magnetic plate from entering into the enclosure. The non-woven scrim may, but need not, have an adhesive property which traps non-paramagnetic particles coming in contact with the non-woven scrim. If the non-woven scrim lacks an adhesive property, then at least a portion of the non-woven scrim may be coated with an adhesive layer which traps non-paramagnetic particles coming in contact with the non-woven scrim.

A disk drive spoiler for reducing particle accumulation in a hard disk drive is provided. The spoiler includes a body portion for directing airflow generated by a rotating disk, the rotating disk comprising a middle diameter and an outer diameter wherein the body portion directs airflow away from the outer diameter of the disk. The spoiler also includes an end portion for directing airflow away from the middle diameter of the disk towards the outer diameter of the disk wherein the body portion comprises a perforation through the body for reducing suction of particles onto the disk surface.

The present invention relates to HDD screws, and more specifically to lubricating the HDD screws. HDD screws may be coated in a layer of a PFPE based lubricant to reduce friction while fastening the screw into a HDD. In addition to providing superior lubricity and reduced friction during fastening and longer shelf life, PFPE lubricated screws provide narrower clamping load distribution and lower particle generation compared to currently used screw lubricants. Furthermore, because PFPE lubricants are also used to lubricate magnetic disk surfaces, the HDD screws may provide a reservoir for replenishing depleting lubricants on the magnetic disk drive surface.

A system and method for using a spray/liquid particle count (LPC) to measure particulate contamination is disclosed. Initially, a component for particulate extraction is received. A sprayer is provided for spraying a liquid on the component. In addition, a container is provided for catching the liquid spraying on the component. The container is clean prior to receiving the liquid and the liquid is collected for later analysis of a number of particles extracted from the component.

System and method for using a spray/liquid particle count (LPC) to measure particulate contamination

A system and method for detecting a defect in an actuator arm conductor coil is disclosed. An actuator arm including a conductor coil is received. The conductor coil is coupled with a voltage as an anode. The conductor coil is submerged into a first solution, the first solution having no organic matter therein. The first solution is then coupled with a second solution including an organic indicator. The second solution also includes a cathode coupled to the voltage such that a defect in an insulation layer of the conductor coil is indicated by the organic indicator.

Embodiments of the present invention include a method for quantitatively detecting embedded particles of a disk spacer ring comprising. The method includes dissolving a layer of a disk spacer ring into a liquid solution, the disk spacer ring layer comprising embedded particles. The method further includes filtering the solution to capture the embedded particles. The method further includes counting the particles.
