Provided are: methods for treating aging or an age-related condition, symptom or disease; methods for stimulating hair growth, regrowth or pigmentation (or preventing hair loss); methods for increasing the expression of an adenosine receptor in dermal cells (in combination with hair growth); methods for treating a condition or disease of the skin or at least one symptom thereof, including cosmetic treatment (e.g., wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, redness, rosacea, dryness, cracking, loss of firmness, loss of elasticity, thinning, and loss of vibrance). The methods comprise administering a sufficient amount of a CBP/catenin (e.g., CBP/&#x3b2;-catenin) antagonist as disclosed, and particularly wherein administration is in an amount and manner sufficient to provide for increasing the number of asymmetric renewing divisions relative to, or at the expense of symmetric divisions in relevant somatic stem cell population. In particular aspects, the CBP/catenin (e.g., CBP/&#x3b2;-catenin) antagonist comprises an alkyl and/or fatty acid ester derivative thereof as disclosed herein.

CBP/Catenin antagonists for enhancing asymmetric division of somatic stem cells

Methods for enhancing or stimulating hematopoiesis including the step of administering Interleukin-12 (IL-12) to yield hematopoietic recovery in a mammal in need. Preferred methods include the step of administering IL-12 as an adjuvant therapy to alleviate the hematopoietic toxicities associated with one or more treatment regimens used to combat a disease state. Other methods include administering IL-12 to ameliorate various hematopoietic deficiencies. Still other methods are directed to uses of IL-12 for in-vivo proliferation of hematopoietic repopulating cells, hematopoietic progenitor cells and hematopoietic stem cells. Other disclosed methods are directed to uses of Il-12 for bone marrow preservation or recovery.

Uses of IL-12 in hematopoiesis

The present invention relates to spirocyclic acylguanidines and their use as inhibitors of the &#x3b2;-secretase enzyme (BACE1) activity, pharmaceutical compositions containing the same, and methods of using the same as therapeutic agents in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, disorders characterized by cognitive decline, cognitive impairment, dementia and diseases characterized by production of &#x3b2;-amyloid aggregates.

A novel mammalian protein system is disclosed. This system comprises a secreted protein factor and its related membrane-bound splice variant. These novel proteins have no homology to any known protein or class or protein, yet are ubiquitously expressed in nearly all tissue types. Also disclosed are novel nucleic acids that encode the novel polypeptides of the invention. The protein system was discovered in purified populations of murine hematopoieitc stem cells. The cDNAs of the invention were cloned from a marine hematopoietic lineage negative (Lin) library.
