The present disclosure is generally directed to techniques for thermal management within optical subassembly modules that include thermally coupling heat-generating components, such as laser assemblies, to a temperature control device, such as a thermoelectric cooler, without the necessity of disposing the heat-generating components within a hermetically-sealed housing. Accordingly, this arrangement provides a thermal communication path that extends from the heat-generating components, through the temperature control device, and ultimately to a heatsink component, such as a sidewall of a transceiver housing, without the thermal communication path extending through a hermetically-sealed housing/cavity.

Techniques for thermal management within optical subassembly modules

The present disclosure is generally directed to a stepped profile for substrates that support 'on board' optical subassembly arrangements. The stepped profile enables mounting TOSA modules to the substrate in a recessed orientation to reduce the overall distance between terminals of the substrate and associated components of the TOSA, e.g., RF terminals of the substrate and an LDD of the TOSA. In an embodiment, the stepped profile further simplifies mounting and optical alignment of TOSA modules by providing at least one mechanical stop to engage surfaces of the TOSA modules and limit travel by the same along one or more axis.

The present disclosure is generally directed to an optical transceiver module that includes a mounting section for aligning and coupling to associated TOSA modules. In particular, an embodiment of the present disclosure includes TOSA and ROSA components disposed on a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA). The PCBA includes a plurality of grooves at a optical coupling end to provide a TOSA mounting section. Each of the grooves provides at least one mating surface to receive and couple to an associated TOSA module. Opposite the optical coupling end, the PCBA includes an electric coupling section for coupling to, for example, a transmit (RX) circuit that provides one or more electrical signals to drive TOSA modules coupled to the TOSA mounting section.

In accordance with an embodiment, a multi-layered flexible printed circuit (FPC) is disclosed that includes two or more insulating layers to route conductive traces carrying radio frequency (RF) signals, e.g., data signals, and conductive traces carrying direct current (DC) signals, e.g., power signals and low-frequency control signals, while sufficiently isolating the RF signals from electrical interference by the DC transmission lines. This advantageously eliminates having two or more separate FPCs to electrically couple each optical subassembly, e.g., receiver optical subassemblies (ROSAs) and transmitter optical subassemblies (TOSAs), to associated circuitry in a transceiver housing, which saves space and reduces manufacturing complexity, for example.

The temperature at different locations along a multiplexed laser array may be monitored by sensing temperature at two locations within a transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) package housing the laser array. The temperature at the two locations is used to determine a temperature tilt across the laser array. Estimated temperatures may then be determined at one or more other locations along the laser array from the temperature tilt. The estimated temperature(s) may then be used to adjust the temperature proximate the other locations, for example, for purposes of tuning lasers at those locations along the laser array to emit a desired channel wavelength. The TOSA package may be used in an optical transceiver in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical system, for example, in an optical line terminal (OLT) in a WDM passive optical network (PON).

Monitoring and controlling temperature across a laser array in a transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA) package

A tunable laser with multiple in-line sections generally includes a semiconductor laser body with a plurality of in-line laser sections each configured to be driven independently to generate laser light at a wavelength within a different respective wavelength range. The wavelength of the light generated in each of the laser sections may be tuned, in response to a temperature change, to a channel wavelength within the respective wavelength range. A switch module may be configured to couple a signal from a laser driver to a selected one of the plurality of in-line laser sections, wherein the signal modulates the laser light generated by the in-line laser section. The selected in-line section may be DC biased to a lasing state and the non-selected in-line sections may be DC biased to a non-lasing or transparent state.

Switched radio frequency (RF) driver for tunable laser with multiple in-line sections

Individual channels of a multiplexed laser array in a multi-channel optical transmitter are monitored at an output of an optical multiplexer. The monitoring may be used to confirm proper operation of each of the channels in the multiplexed laser array and/or to perform wavelength locking on each of the channels. Monitoring at the output of the optical multiplexer avoids the use of multiple photodetectors coupled directly to multiple lasers in the multiplexed laser array. The multiplexed laser array generally includes a plurality of laser emitters optically coupled to an optical multiplexer such as an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG). An optical transmitter with a monitored multiplexed laser array may be used, for example, in an optical line terminal (OLT) in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) passive optical network (PON) or in any other type of WDM optical communication system capable of transmitting optical signals on multiple channel wavelengths.

An optical transceiver generally includes an injection locked (IL) laser configured to generate a transmit (Tx) optical signal for transmission over an optical network and a laser driver circuit configured to modulate the IL laser based on a Tx data signal. The Tx data signal may be provided to the optical transceiver for transmission over the optical network. The Tx data signal may include a crossing point level associated with a transition between a first signal level and a second signal level. The optical transceiver may also include a crossing point control circuit configured to apply distortion to the Tx data signal, the distortion to increase the crossing point level.

A heated laser package generally includes a laser diode, a heating resistor and a transistor in a single laser package. The heating resistor and transistor form a heating circuit and may be located on a submount adjacent to the laser diode. The transistor is configured to control the drive current to the heating resistor and any additional heat generated by the transistor may contribute to the heating of the laser diode and thus increase the thermal efficiency of the system. The heated laser package may be used in a temperature controlled multi-channel transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA), which may be used in a multi-channel optical transceiver. The optical transceiver may be used in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical system, for example, in an optical line terminal (OLT) in a WDM passive optical network (PON).

A compact multi-channel optical may include a multi-channel transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA), a multi-channel receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) and a circuit board configured and arranged to fit within a relatively small space. The multi-channel ROSA is spaced from the circuit board to allow circuit components to be mounted between the circuit board and the ROSA. The multi-channel ROSA may also be inverted and mounted proximate a transceiver top housing portion, for example, using an L-shaped ROSA support, to transfer heat from the ROSA to the transceiver housing portion. The optical transceiver may be used in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical system, for example, in an optical line terminal (OLT) in a WDM passive optical network (PON).

Device and method for processing 4-dimensional (4-D) seismic traces. The method includes receiving at least two vintages of seismic traces recorded by seismic receivers for a same subsurface area, wherein said seismic receivers are located at the ocean floor; applying up-down deconvolution to each of said vintages of seismic traces to obtain a representation of a reflectivity of said subsurface area from each vintage of seismic traces; and redatuming the up-down deconvolution result of each vintage from the ocean floor to a desired water depth of the ocean to reduce one or more changes in said seismic traces associated with water layer variations between recordings of said series of seismic traces. The redatumed seismic data is used to generate one or more images representing characteristics of said subsurface area.

Methods and systems to eliminate undesirable variations in time-lapse seismic surveys

A distortion compensation circuit compensates for distortion generated by one or more non-linear elements such as a laser device and/or an optical fiber and may include a primary signal path for carrying an input signal and a secondary signal paths for generating distortion. The distortion compensation circuit may also include a controllable phase inverters and a tunable filter. For example, the secondary signal path may include a distortion generator to produce distortion products from the input signal and a signal controlled phase inverter that inverts the phase of the distortion products and a tunable filter that adjusts the phase of the frequency dependent distortion. The phase inversion and tunable filter may be controlled in response to control signals generated based on one or more parameters such as, for example, laser power, input RF channel loading, temperature, and fiber length.

A distortion compensation circuit including a configurable delay may be used with one or more non-linear elements, such as a laser, to compensate for distortion generated by the non-linear element(s), for example, in broadband RF applications. Embodiments of the distortion compensation circuit may include a primary signal path with a configurable delay segment and a secondary signal path including at least one distortion generator. The configurable delay segment may be selectively configured to provide different delay settings to accommodate different RF loading conditions such that the delayed RF signal on the primary signal path is aligned with the distortion products generated on the secondary signal path when combined to form an RF signal with distortion compensation.

An optical transceiver includes an internal optical fiber coupled to optical sub-assemblies in the transceiver and is capable of maintaining a bend diameter of the internal optical fiber above a minimum bend diameter. The optical transceiver thus allows optical fiber to be used within a relatively small space within a housing of the optical transceiver without significant power loss in the optical signal carried on the optical fiber. The optical transceiver may be a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver used, for example, in an optical line terminal (OLT) and/or optical networking unit (ONU) in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) passive optical network (PON).

A distortion compensation circuit with frequency detection may be used with one or more non-linear elements, such as a laser, to compensate for frequency-dependent distortion generated by the non-linear element(s), for example, in broadband multichannel RF applications. Embodiments of the distortion compensation circuit may include a frequency detector circuit that detects changes in frequency loading conditions in the distortion compensation circuit such that distortion compensation may be adjusted to compensate for distortion under different frequency loading conditions. In a multichannel RF system with multiple channel operation modes, for example, the frequency detector circuit may detect changes in the frequency loading condition as a result of changing operation modes.
