Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a compressed user equipment (UE) capability message that can indicate to a mobile network the various capabilities of the UE. In particular, the carrier aggregation and dual connectivity capabilities are compressed as disclosed herein. In traditional implementations, each carrier aggregation and dual connectivity combination and implementation that is supported is explicitly indicated in the message. As disclosed herein, rather than listing explicit combinations, the UE capability message can be compressed by instead listing boundary values of several different parameters which can be used by the network to derive the carrier aggregation and dual connectivity combinations. The UE capability message can also list the boundary values for LTE (Long Term Evolution), NR (New Radio, or 5G), and Dual Connectivity separately within the message to reduce ambiguity.

Carrier aggregation and dual connectivity capability exchange

Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for flexible carrier uplink and downlink pairing for 4G, 5G and future networks. Downlink and uplink channels can be assigned to different bands that are not contiguous or bands that have different bandwidths. This enables base station devices to have the flexibility to assign uplink and downlink communications to bands that have lower load and thus improve the efficiency and throughput of the communication link for both uplink and downlink. The base station device can also assign uplink and downlink pairing in order to minimize passive intermodulation interference. Passive intermodulation interference from a transmission can cause interference in bands near the transmission band, and so the base station device can assign downlink and uplink bands that are separate from each other in order to reduce the passive intermodulation interference.

Flexible carrier downlink and uplink pairing for advanced networks

Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a compressed UE capability message that can indicate to a mobile network the various capabilities of the UE. In particular, the carrier aggregation and dual connectivity capabilities are compressed as disclosed herein. In traditional implementations, each carrier aggregation and dual connectivity combination and implementation that is supported is explicitly indicated in the message. Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a device including a processing system including a processor and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations. The operations can include receiving an enquiry regarding capability of the device to engage in a communication session over a network, identifying a plurality of component carriers available for carrier aggregation, and generating a group identifier for a group of combinations of the component carriers. The group identifier indicates the capability of the device to engage in the communication session using any of the combinations in the group. The operations can also include transmitting a message including the group identifier. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Method and apparatus for defining carrier aggregation group sets

A system includes a plurality of base stations coupled in a mesh network. A first base station of the plurality of base stations includes a first antenna to receive a primary timing synchronization signal and a first interface to a wired packet-switched communication link. The first base station is configured to transmit backup timing synchronization information based on the primary timing synchronization signal. A second base station of the plurality of base stations has a second interface to the wired packet-based communication link and is configured to utilize the second timing synchronization signal sent from the first base station responsive to a failure of the primary timing synchronization signal at the second base station.
