A display panel includes a first substrate and a spaced apart second substrate and a protection or other additional film attached to an outer and laterally extending major surface of the first substrate. The first substrate includes a first base substrate having a major lateral surface subdivided into a display region and a peripheral region, a color filter member disposing on the first base substrate and having a plurality of color filters, a light blocking member disposing on the peripheral region of the first base substrate and an overcoating member disposing on the color filter member and on the light blocking member and extending to cover a sidewall surface of the light blocking member. The extend overcoating member helps block charged particles from reaching the light blocking member, thus preventing discoloration of the color filter due to influx of static electricity associated with the charged particles.

A display panel includes a substrate, a partition formed on the substrate and defining a plurality of openings, a plurality of color filters formed in the openings and having a substantially uniform thickness within each respective opening, and a spacer formed on the partition. The present invention relates to a display device and a method for manufacturing the display device. The display device includes at least one partition formed on a lower display panel. A color filter may fill a region defined by the partitions. A first upper passivation layer is formed on the color filter, and a second upper passivation layer is formed on the first upper passivation layer and the partitions such that the LCD structure is planarized. In the display device, the height of the partition is sufficiently high to prevent mixing of the colors of neighboring pixel filters, and the process margin of the spacer and the light blocking member may be ensured. The partitions can be formed with multiple layers having different widths such that the mixture of colors between the neighboring pixels may be prevented, and the color reproducibility may be increased.

A display substrate includes a transistor, a black matrix and a color spacer. The transistor is connected to a gate line, and a data line crossing the gate line.
