A system includes multiple KVM switches, multiple user consoles and a recording system connected via a network. Each KVM switch facilitates interactions between user consoles and selected servers connected its server ports. The KVM switch transmits keyboard, mouse and video data exchanged between user consoles and servers, and administrative data, to the recording system. The recording system records the keyboard, mouse, video and administrative data, and detects trigger events based on such data. Trigger events include predefined keywords, mouse operations, video images, user IDs and server IDs, or combinations thereof. When a trigger event is detected, the recording system automatically transmits monitoring information to an administrative console via the network. The monitoring information may include combined video data containing information about keyboard and mouse actions superimposed on desktop images. The administrative console may also request specific recorded data for review. The recording system may employ a master-slave configuration.

System and method for recording and monitoring user interactions with a server

A remote management system includes a remote management apparatus and a user interface. The remote management apparatus has an network interface, a computer interface, and a console interface. The network interface is coupled to a first computer via a network. The computer interface is a signal transmitting interface between the remote management apparatus and a second computer. The user interface corresponds to a set of cursor control device and monitor. The user interface provides a plurality of functional options corresponding to a plurality of functions managing the remote management apparatus respectively. The user interface also shows a plurality of steps on the screen needed for the user to perform the function corresponding to the functional option on the remote management apparatus in response to one of functional options selected by the user to guide the user to finish the function interactively.

Remote management system and operating method thereof

A virtual media (VM) method for mounting one or more folders in one or more storage devices of a client for accessed by a server as a virtual drive. The client assigns virtual cluster indices to each file, and creates a file-cluster index table to store the assigned virtual cluster indices. The client also creates a VM file system complying with the FAT file system standard except that only subdirectories and no data files are stored in the VM FAT file system. The VM FAT table uses virtual cluster indices rather than actual cluster indices. Data written by the server are stored in a temporary data area without modifying the actual file systems of the storage devices. The virtual sectors requested to be written are 'dirty', and the dirty sector numbers and corresponding temporary sector numbers are stored in a dirty sector index table for use in a write-back step.

Virtual media with folder-mount function

A graphical user interface used in a virtual media system for allowing a server computer to access objects (files and folders) on storage devices of a client computer. The server is controlled by input signals from the client. The desktop of the client displays a first file management window showing objects on the storage devices, and a second window representing a desktop of the server. Using input devices connected to the client, a user selects objects in the first window and drags and drops them on the second window. In response, the client performs a virtual media mounting process to present the selected objects to the server as objects on a local drive of the server, without presenting any unselected content on the storage devices. The local drive is shown in the second window on the client's desktop to allow the user to explore its content.

Virtual media with folder-mount function and graphical user interface for mounting one or more files or folders

A video data recoding method suitable for recording computer sessions. Each video image frame is divided into multiple blocks. A server processes the video frames and transmits only changed blocks for each frame to a video log server. The video log server stores the changed blocks with block indices in a data file. The video log server also maintains a virtual frame table which stores, for each block of the frame, the data location within the data file where the most recent occurrence of that block is stored. The virtual frame table is continuously updated as changed blocks are stored in the data file. The video log server further stores a snapshot file containing snapshots of the virtual frame table at predetermined time points, along with time stamps and a next changed frame location. The data file and the snapshot file are used to reproduce the video images.

Method and apparatus for video image data recording and playback

The present invention discloses a remote control device. Via the present remote control device, a remote computing device can operate a plurality of computing devices and further administrate the whole system constituted by the plurality of computing devices and a KVM switch via a network. The remote control device and the method used therein firstly generates a menu in response to a request from the remote computing device, and the menu has at least one option for a remote control action. The menu is then transmitted to the remote computing device via the network. Once a cursor position representing a chosen option is received from the remote computing device via the network, the cursor position corresponds to the option. The remote control action is carried out according to the cursor position.

Remote control device and method

Network communication control methods and systems are provided. The length of a sub-time slice is determined according to a network bandwidth, and a transmission threshold of the sub-time slice is determined according to the length of the sub-time slice and the network bandwidth. At least one network transmission is performed within the sub-time slice if a transmission amount of the network transmission within the sub-time slice does not exceed the transmission threshold.

Network communication control methods and systems

In a communication system having a master-slave arrangement communicating with each other using the RS485 protocol, an FPGA with a buffer memory is provided in the master and slave, respectively, to handle the actual communication. The CPUs of the master and slave transfer data to and from the respective buffer memory. The master's FPGA initiates and maintains communication with the slave's FPGA. The masters FPGA and the slave's FPGA communicate with each other using the RS485 protocol by transmitting requests, acknowledgements and data. From the standpoint of the CPUs of the master and slave, the communication appears to be full duplex, although the actual communication between the FPGAs is half duplex. One particular application of the communication method is a KVM switch system where the KVM switch acts as the master and the computers connected to the KVM switch act as slaves.

Pseudo-full duplex communication using a half duplex communication protocol

A video card is controlled by a control unit to output video data to a display or through a network. The video card includes a network interface, an interface controller and a bus interface. The network interface is connected to the network to transfer the video data. The interface controller is coupled to the network interface and controlled by the control unit to output the video data to the display or through the network interface. The bus interface is coupled between the interface controller and the control unit and is for inputting the video data from the control unit to the interface controller.

Video card

A method for image compression is described. The method compresses computer images for efficient transfer of consecutive compressed images through a network. The method comprises loading two consecutive images, fuzzy comparing the two consecutive images, calculating the total different number between the two consecutive images, and determining an encoding algorithm, such as run-length and delta-modulation (RLEDM) or JPEG, according to the total different number. The fuzzy comparison eliminates deviations caused by capturing errors. The RLEDM encoding algorithm of the invention only deals with image differences between the two consecutive images, including line pattern indexes and line patterns, and depends on a minimum encoding size rule to further determine the encoding algorithm, such as a direct encoding, a run-length encoding or a delta-modulation encoding. The method provides an improved encoding algorithm by using a strategy where different circumstances each involve adopting an optimum method to reduce a bandwidth requirement of networks.
