Various systems and methods are presented regarding interrupting a write operation to enable a read operation to be performed on a digital tape system. An initial write operation to the tape can be paused, a read operation performed on a previously written data file conducted, and upon completion of the read operation, the write operation can be recommenced. Interrupt points can be positioned within respective data blocks. Based upon knowledge of the amount of data written during the initial write operation, a position P can be determined (relative to the location of the nearest prior interrupt point) such that when the tape is advanced to place the tape head in a position to recommence the write operation after the read operation has been performed, the tape can be positioned such that the tape head is at position P. Accordingly, interruption of the write operation enables random access of the tape.

Digital tape storage optimization

According to one embodiment, a computer-implemented method, a computer system, and a computer program product for data maintenance is provided. The present invention may include receiving, by one or more processing units, a maintenance request for a first data set stored in a first non-transient storage; copying, by one or more processing units, the first data set into a second non-transient storage as a second data set during a copy phase in response to receiving the maintenance request; writing, by one or more processing units, update content indicated by an update request to the first data set into a first transient memory in response to receiving the update request during the copy phase; and updating, by one or more processing units, the second data set based on the written update content in the first transient memory during a write-back phase responsive to a completion of the copy phase.

Data maintenance

An approach for managing data set access based on data set relevance. The approach monitors data set access activities associated with a user. The approach detects access of a first data set by the user. The approach determines a group of data sets associated with the first data set based on a data set mapping associated with the user. The approach recalls one or more data sets of the group of data sets from a slower storage device to a faster storage device.

Managing data sets based on user activity

An embodiment for automatically controlling peripheral devices based on online meeting participant information. The embodiment may detect participants of an online meeting and generate a participant information table. The embodiment may generate a participant group table including one or more preliminary participant groups based on the participant information. The embodiment may generate and send audio through peripheral devices associated with at least one participant in each of the one or more preliminary participant groups to identify the participants in physically shared meeting spaces. The embodiment may update the participant group table to include confirmed participant groups based on the identified participants in the physically shared meeting spaces. The embodiment may determine a presenter for each of the confirmed participant groups and update the participant information. The embodiment may control, for the confirmed participant groups, the peripheral devices of the identified participants in the physically shared meeting.

Reducing noise for online meetings

A method for sharing hidden information in a virtual meeting is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes sharing, by way of a web-conference server, a source window presented on a source system with a target window presented on a target system. The method detects selection of a specific area on the target window and correlates the specific area on the target window with a corresponding area on the source window. The method determines whether the corresponding area on the source window links to hidden information, such as a hyperlink, on the source window. If the corresponding area links to hidden information, the method communicates one or more of the hidden information and a link to the hidden information to the target system. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Hidden information sharing in virtual meetings

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a computer-implemented method for translating a content item. Aspects include obtaining a user profile for a reader of the content item, the user profile comprising a native language of the reader, a second language of the reader and skill level associated with the second language. Aspects also include obtaining the content item, wherein the content item is in the second language. Aspects further include creating a translated content item by determining, for each phrase in the content item, a confidence score that the reader will understand the phrase based at least in part on the user profile and replacing each phrase in the content item having the confidence score less than a threshold level with an alternate phrase. Aspects also include presenting the translated content item to the reader.

Translation of a content item

A method, system and computer program product for processing data are provided. In the method, a request is received to perform an access-controlled operation in a user device. A biometric feature input from an input module of the user device is received for the request. It is determined whether the received biometric feature matching with a primary biometric feature, the primary biometric feature being identified from a plurality of biometric features stored in the user device and being used to authenticate a user for the access-controlled operation. The access-controlled operation is enabled in response to determining the received biometric feature matching with a primary biometric feature.

User authentication

A 'Camera Calibrator' provides various techniques for recovering intrinsic camera parameters and distortion characteristics by processing a set of one or more input images. These techniques are based on extracting 'Transform Invariant Low-Rank Textures' (TILT) from input images using high-dimensional convex optimization tools for matrix rank minimization and sparse signal recovery. The Camera Calibrator provides a simple, accurate, and flexible method to calibrate intrinsic parameters of a camera even with significant lens distortion, noise, errors, partial occlusions, illumination and viewpoint change, etc. Distortions caused by the camera can then be automatically corrected or removed from images. Calibration is achieved under a wide range of practical scenarios, including using multiple images of a known pattern, multiple images of an unknown pattern, single or multiple images of multiple patterns, etc. Significantly, calibration is achieved without extracting or manually identifying low-level features such as corners or edges from the calibration images.

Camera calibration with lens distortion from low-rank textures

A 'Text Rectifier' provides various techniques for processing selected regions of an image containing text or characters by treating those images as matrices of low-rank textures and using a rank minimization technique that recovers and removes image deformations (e.g., affine and projective transforms as well as general classes of nonlinear transforms) while rectifying the text or characters in the image region. Once distortions have been removed and the text or characters rectified, the resulting text is made available for a variety of uses or further processing such as optical character recognition (OCR). In various embodiments, binarization and/or inversion techniques are applied to the selected image regions during the rank minimization process to both improve text rectification and to present the resulting images of text to an OCR engine in a form that enhances the accuracy of the OCR results.

Rectification of characters and text as transform invariant low-rank textures

A 'Transform Invariant Low-Rank Texture' (TILT) Extractor, referred to as a 'TILT Extractor' accurately extracts both textural and geometric information defining regions of low-rank planar patterns from 2D images of a scene, thereby enabling a large range of image processing applications. Unlike conventional feature extraction techniques that rely on point-based features, the TILT Extractor extracts texture regions from an image and derives global correlations or transformations of those regions in 3D (e.g., transformations including translation, rotation, reflection, skew, scale, etc.). These image domain transformations inherently provide information relative to an automatically determinable camera viewing direction. In other words, the TILT Extractor extracts low-rank regions and geometric correlations describing domain transforms of those regions relative to arbitrary camera viewpoints. The TILT Extractor also identifies sparse error in image intensity or other color channels resulting from noise, occlusions or other artifacts, thereby allowing elimination or reduction of such errors in images.
