A method for long seeking control of an optical read/write head is disclosed. The optical read/write head includes a sled moved by a sled motor, and a lens mounted on the sled and moved by a lens actuator, and said method includes steps of determining a velocity profile according to a desired travel distance of the optical read/write head; detecting an instant velocity and an instantaneous position of the optical read/write head at a certain time spot; comparing the instant velocity with a target velocity corresponding to the instantaneous position according to the velocity profile; modifying velocities of the sled and the lens according to the comparing result; and dynamically adjusting a position of the lens in the sled. An apparatus for long seeking control of an optical read/write head is also disclosed.

The process includes steps of starting a servo control system of a disk drive to rotate the disk at a specified angular velocity, measuring a track crossing speed of the servo control system at a focusing point on the disk, and computing the eccentric amount of the disk according to the specified angular velocity and the track crossing speed. A process for controlling rotation of a disk loaded in a disk drive is also provided. The process includes steps of realizing an eccentric amount of the disk, and rotating the disk at an operating speed corresponding to the eccentric amount.

A method for reducing the turn-back in response to an actual and a target speed in an optical storage device. The method includes the following steps: (a) determining whether the turn-back of the optical pickup head occurs; if the turn-back occurs, step (b) is executed and if the turn-back does not occur, a speed error is obtained according to the target speed and the actual speed; (b) determining whether the number of turn-back tracks is greater than a default value; if the number of turn-back tracks is not greater than the default value, the speed error is set to zero and if the number of turn-back tracks is greater than the default value, the speed error is obtained according to the target speed and an inversion of the actual speed and the actual track-seeking direction is inverted to correspond to the target track-seeking direction.

Method for reducing the turn-back of the track-seeking control in an optical storage device and apparatus thereof

A method and device of determining the slice level of a radio frequency ripple (RFRP) signal for performing a tracking operation in a tracking controller of an optical storage device. The optical storage device receives a tracking error (TE) signal, a radio frequency center (RFCT) signal, and the RFRP signal, and then outputs a TE_input signal related to the slice level. The method includes the following steps: a. obtaining a count value when the absolute value of the TE signal is smaller than a threshold value; otherwise, resetting the count value; b. executing step c when the count value is smaller than a predetermined count value; otherwise, outputting the TE signal as the TE_input signal; and c. outputting the TE signal as the TE_input signal when the RFRP signal is greater than the RFCT signal; otherwise outputting a peak value of the TE signal as the TE_input signal.

Method and device of determining the slice level of the radio frequency ripple signal in an optical storage device

A method for determining a track-cross direction of a pick-up head of an optical disk drive includes the following steps. (1) When a track-cross velocity of the pick-up head was determined to be greater than a predetermined velocity, it is determined whether the track-cross velocity of the pick-up head is changed to be less than the predetermined velocity. If not, the track-cross direction remains unchanged. (2) When the track-cross velocity of the pick-up head was determined to be less than the predetermined velocity, it is determined whether the track-cross velocity of the pick-up head is changed to be greater than the predetermined velocity. If not, the track-cross direction is determined according to a phase difference between a first track-cross signal and a second track-cross signal.

A long seeking method, used in an optical disc drive, includes identifying the position of the pick-up head, applying a first driving force on the pick-up head in addition to the velocity control force when the pick-up head is within the acceleration region, where the direction of the first driving force is the same as the moving direction of the pick-up head, and applying a second driving force on the pick-up head in addition to the velocity control force when the pick-up head is within the deceleration region where the direction of the first driving force is opposite to the moving direction of the pick-up head.

An apparatus or method for estimating a radial speed of a disc is suitable for an optical storage device. The apparatus is used in an optical storage device for receiving a pulse signal and an eccentricity, and generating an estimated radial speed of the disc. The apparatus comprises a frequency detector and a sinusoidal wave generator. The frequency detector is used for receiving the pulse signal and then outputs a rotation frequency. The sinusoidal wave generator is used for receiving the rotation frequency and the eccentricity, and then outputs an estimated radial speed value of the disc. As mentioned, the estimated radial speed has an amplitude related to the eccentricity and the rotation frequency, and a frequency related to the rotation frequency, and when a jump direction is changed, the estimated radial speed is zero-crossing
