A liquid crystal display (LCD) including a LCD panel, a first polarizer and a second polarizer respectively disposed at two sides of the LCD, a first a-plate and a second a-plate disposed between the polarizers and LCD panel, a biaxial compensation plate and a c-plate is provided. The biaxial compensation plate is disposed between one of the polarizers and one of the a-plates. The main axis refractive indexes n, nand nof the biaxial compensation plate satisfy the formula of Nz=(n&#x2212;n)/(n&#x2212;n), wherein n&#x3e;nand &#x2212;0.5&#x3c;Nz&#x3c;1. The first c-plate is disposed between one of the a-plates and LCD panel. The LCD of the present invention is capable of widening viewing angles and enhancing display quality.

Liquid crystal display having particular biaxial compensation plate

A liquid crystal display (LCD) including an LCD panel and a back light module is provided. The back light module is disposed below the LCD panel. The back light module includes a planar light source, a reflective polarized light enhancement film, a first prism film and a &#x3bb;/4 phase retardation film. The planar light source is disposed below the LCD panel, while the reflective polarized light enhancement film is disposed between the LCD panel and the planar light source. The first prism film is disposed between the reflective polarized light enhancement film and the planar light source. Besides, the &#x3bb;/4 phase retardation film is disposed between the reflective polarized light enhancement film and the first prism film. The back light module has a relatively high light utilization rate, and the LCD has favorable display luminance.

Back light module and liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display includes a first and a second transparent substrates facing to each other, a liquid crystal layer, a first polarizer, a second polarizer, and a first half wave plate. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and the second transparent substrates. The first polarizer is positioned next to the first transparent substrate and opposite the liquid crystal layer, and the second polarizer is positioned next to the second transparent substrate and opposite the liquid crystal layer. The first half wave plate is provided between the first transparent substrate and the first polarizer to enable the liquid crystal display to have a normally black mode.

A FFS semi-transmissive LCD comprises a first substrate and pixel matrix. The pixel matrix is disposed on the first substrate and comprises a plurality of pixel units. Each pixel unit comprises a counter electrode, pixel electrode layer, reflection layer and liquid-crystal disposition layer. The counter electrode is disposed on the first substrate. The pixel electrode layer is disposed above the counter electrode. The reflection layer is disposed between the first substrate and pixel electrode layer. The reflection layer is smaller than the counter electrode in area. The liquid-crystal disposition layer is disposed on the pixel electrode layer and comprises a transparent material layer. The transparent material layer is smaller than the liquid-crystal disposition layer in thickness and has substantially the same shape and area as the reflection layer, and the transparent material layer and the reflection layer are face-to-face disposed at two opposite sides of the pixel electrode layer.

Fringe field switching (FFS) semi-transmissive liquid crystal display

A transflective liquid crystal display device includes a first and a second substrates, a liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of reflective electrodes and transparent electrodes. The liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and the second substrates and functions in an OCB mode. The reflective electrode and the transparent electrode in one picture element are spaced apart from each other to produce a transverse electric field when a voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer.

Transflective liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display panel (LCD) panel is provided. The LCD panel includes a plurality of pixels. Each pixel includes a pixel electrode layer and a plurality of liquid crystal domain arranging layers. The pixel electrode layer has a plurality of slits. The liquid crystal domain arranging layers are disposed near the pixel electrode layer. Each pixel is divided into a plurality of essentially closed liquid crystal domain fields by the arranging layers and the slits. Each liquid crystal domain field is formed by encircling at least one arranging layer and at least one slit.

A multi-domain liquid crystal display includes a plurality of first and second picture elements and a plurality of first and second auxiliary electrodes. The first and second picture elements have opposite polarities under the same frame of an inversion drive scheme. The first auxiliary electrodes are connected to the first picture elements and at least partially surround each of the second picture elements, and the second auxiliary electrodes are connected to the second picture elements and at least partially surround each of the first picture elements.

Multi-domain liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel and an LCD device incorporating the same are provided. The LCD panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate and a liquid crystal layer. The second substrate disposed parallel to the first substrate includes a base, a picture element, a transparent electrode, several stack layers and several reflective electrodes. The picture element having a transmission region and a reflection region is disposed on the base. The transparent electrode having several electrode portions is disposed inside the picture element. The electrode portions are alternatedly disposed in the transmission region. The stack layers alternatedly disposed on part of the transparent electrode alternate with the electrode portions. The reflective electrodes are correspondingly disposed on the top surfaces of the stack layers, and are electrically connected to the transparent electrode. The liquid crystal molecules form several domains via the lateral inclined surfaces of the stack layers.

Liquid crystal display panel and liquid crystal display device incorporating the same

A transflective LCD having a dual common-electrode structure has a front substrate, a liquid crystal layer and a rear substrate. The front substrate has multiple first and second common electrodes respectively connected to a first and a second contact pads. The first and second contact pads are respectively connected to two voltage sources to obtain different voltage. The rear substrate has multiple pixels, each has a reflective region and a transmission region. The reflective region is aligned to the first common electrode and the transmission region is aligned to the second common electrode. Since the voltages to the first and second common electrodes are different, the voltages of two liquid crystal capacitors corresponding to the reflective and transmission regions are also different. Therefore, the V-T curves of one pixel are adjustable to be close to each other by supplying different voltages to the first and second common electrodes.

Transflective LCD having a dual common-electrode structure

A micro-reflective liquid crystal display including an upper polarizing plate, an upper substrate having transparent electrode, a color light-filtering plate, a liquid crystal layer, an inner polarizing film, a lower substrate having transparent electrode, driving cell and storage capacitor, a lower polarizing plate and a backlight source. The inner polarizing film is deposited on one face of the lower substrate adjacent to the liquid crystal layer. The color light-filtering plate is formed with an opening corresponding to the storage capacitor, whereby external light can go in through the opening. The upper metal layer of the storage capacitor forms a reflective region for reflecting the external light to serve as a light source for the liquid crystal display. Accordingly, when exposed to outdoor sunlight, the micro-reflective liquid crystal display can still present a clear image.

A high contrast ratio reflective STN LCD structure including an glass substrate panel, a liquid crystal layer and a lower glass substrate panel. The upper glass substrate panel includes only one optical deflector. The phase compensating film disposed under the optical deflector has a quarter of wavelength. The liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer have torsion angle within 180&deg; to 210&deg;. The retardation value of the liquid crystal molecules is within 580 nm to 650 nm.
