A direct-lighting type back light unit includes a plurality of light sources for emitting light outward; a reflecting plate defining a plurality of curved reflecting recesses in which the light sources are respectively arranged. Each recess forms a first convex reflecting surface at a center of the recess, a second inclined reflecting surface formed at an edge of the recess and a third inclined reflecting surface formed at the edge and extending from the second reflecting surface.

Direct-lighting type back light unit

A combined frame for housing at least a lamp with one end connected to a power cord is provided. The combined frame comprises a lower frame and an upper frame. The lamp is positioned between the upper frame and the lower frame. The lower frame has an angled cable groove that encloses the power cord from the lamp. One end of the power cord is exposed outside the lower frame. The upper frame is positioned over the lower frame. Through the angled cable groove, the power cord is prevented from sliding in the axial direction of the lamp by any unintended external force and hence pulling power cable away from the lamp. This invention also provides a back light module comprising a light-guiding plate and the aforementioned lamp and combined frame.

Combined frame and back light module

A front light module includes a light guide plate having opposite ends and a front surface and an opposite back surface connected to each other by the ends. The front surface forms sets of raised ridges, each raised ridge having opposite inclined faces. The front surface also forms a recessed trough between adjacent sets of ridges. Each trough has opposite inclined faces. A light source is mounted to each end of the light guide plate for projecting a light into the light guide plate. A reflector is arranged adjacent to and spaced from the back surface of the light guide plate for accommodating a display board between the reflector and the light guide plate. The light from the light source is incident onto the inclined faces of the troughs and reflected thereby toward the reflector. The troughs have different depths whereby the inclined faces thereof are of different surface areas for reflecting different amount of light in order to provide a uniform brightness over the whole module. The light is then reflected by the reflector toward the front surface where the light is refracted by the inclined faces of the ridges to increase the viewing angle of the light guide plate. The ridges may have a triangular cross section or alternatively, the ridges have a trapezoidal cross section having a top face forming ribs. The troughs may have a trapezoidal cross section having a flat bottom face that allows for adjustment of distance between adjacent ridge sets.

Front light module

A backlight module includes a light guide plate having opposite ends. The light guide plate has a light emitting surface and an opposite back surface connected to each other by the ends. The back surface has a concave contour whereby thickness of the light guide plate is gradually reduced from each end toward a center of the light guide plate. A light source includes a reflector mounted to each end of the light guide plate and a plurality of light tubes fixed inside the reflector and between the reflector and the end of the light guide plate. The light tubes are lined up in a direction inclined with respect to a normal direction of the light emitting surface. The reflector includes curved portions corresponding to the light tubes for reflecting light from the light tubes toward the end of the light guide plate. A reflective layer is formed on the back surface. The reflective layer defines a number of miniature cups having a hemispherical or multilateral pyramid configuration for reflecting light toward the light emitting surface.

Backlight module having concave struture

A backlight module for an LCD device. The backlight module includes a glass panel, a light guide plate and an illumination assembly. The backlight module provides an improved structure and arrangement of the illumination assembly. Thus, illumination of the LCD device is not adversely affected and the weight and thickness of the backlight module are reduced, as are the weight and thickness of the LCD device itself.
