In a distributed database, many nodes can store copies, or instances, of the same record. If the record is split on one node, it should be split on the other nodes to maintain consistency, concurrency, and correctness of the data in the distributed database. In some distributed databases, the records are locked during the update process to ensure data integrity. Unfortunately, locking the records can increase latency, especially for larger databases. But if the records aren't locked and a node fails as a record is being split and updated simultaneously, the split and update may not propagate throughout the distributed database, leading to a loss of data integrity. Exchanging messages about the status of record splitting and forwarding updates internally reduces the likelihood of a loss of data integrity due to a node failure.

Index splitting in distributed databases

A system for performing semantic search receives an electronic text corpus and separates the text corpus into a plurality of sentences. The system parses and converts each sentence into a sentence tree. The system receives a search query and matches the search query with one or more of the sentence trees.

Semantic text search

An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a method of processing a file system transaction in a distributed file system. The method includes receiving a transaction request from a computer, wherein the transaction request includes file data to be stored and a first segment identifier that determines a destination of the file data. The method also includes generating a first distributed journal record corresponding to the file data. The method also includes generating a first file operation request based, at least in part, on the transaction request. The method also includes sending the first file operation request to a first segment server corresponding to the first segment identifier, wherein the first segment server generates a second distributed journal record corresponding to the file data on a memory device associated with the first segment server.
