The capability determining method includes acquiring, by the host, a capability supported by the terminal device. The method also includes determining, by the host according to the capability supported by the terminal device and a capability supported by the host, a capability supported by both the terminal device and the host, and using the capability supported by both the terminal device and the host as an overlapping capability, where the overlapping capability is used by the terminal device to perform capability configuration. The method also includes sending the overlapping capability to the terminal device.

A user equipment runs the WINDOWS 8 system, the user equipment is connected to a global positioning system (GPS) device having an assisted global positioning system (A-GPS) function, and the assisted positioning method includes detecting, by the user equipment, that the GPS device enables a GPS function; sending, by the user equipment, an A-GPS indication message to the GPS device, where the A-GPS indication message is used to instruct the GPS device to enable the A-GPS function; receiving, by the user equipment, positioning information from the GPS device, where the positioning information is obtained by the GPS device by using the GPS function and the A-GPS function.

A method for acquiring an Internet Protocol (IP) address is provided that pertains to the communications field. The method includes detecting Packet Data Protocol (PDP) connection information between a mobile broadband device and a network side; acquiring identification information if it is detected that the PDP connection information between the mobile broadband device and the network side changes, where the identification information is used to identify the PDP connection information between the mobile broadband device and the network side; and sending the identification information to a host, so that the host acquires an IP address of the host according to the identification information. In the embodiments of the present invention, neither special auxiliary program nor additional driver needs to be developed. Therefore, the solution is easy to implement and a problem of incompatibility will not occur.
