An auto management system for an air filter used in a battery pack comprises at least one cell and a case accommodating each of the cells so that there is secured an air flow passage between the neighboring cells. The battery pack is provided with an air inlet at one side and an air outlet on the other side and comprises an air filter detachably mounted at an outside end of the air inlet of the case; a blowing fan provided to one of the air inlet and the air outlet; a flux sensor; a control unit connected to the cells of the battery pack, the blowing fan and the flux sensor, respectively, measuring currents, voltages and temperatures of the respective cells and electrically controlling the blowing fan and the flux sensor.

Disclosed herein is a housing member for a battery module, which is mounted to at least one side of the battery module such that a flow channel of refrigerant is defined in the battery module having unit cells stacked therein, wherein the housing member is provided with electrically connecting members for electrically connecting electrode terminals of the unit cells with each other and/or electrically connecting an external device to the electrode terminals, the electrically connecting members being integrally formed at the housing member. The housing member according to the present invention is manufactured in a structure in which the electrically connecting members are integrally formed at the housing member. Consequently, the manufacturing costs of the housing member are reduced. Furthermore, the assembly process of the battery module is greatly simplified, and the occurrence of short circuits caused by an engineer's mistake is effectively prevented.

Disclosed herein is a battery module for medium- or large-sized battery packs, including a plurality of unit cells, wherein the unit cells are generally plate-shaped unit cells, and the unit cells are electrically connected with each other while the unit cells are arranged in a module case so as to constitute at least two rows and at least two columns. According to the present invention, integration of the battery module is highly improved. Especially, the vertical-direction mechanical strength of the battery module is further increased, and the number of connecting members necessary for the electrical connection between the unit cells is reduced.

Battery module for medium or large size battery pack

Disclosed is a battery pack management method for HEV and EV. Power for a control signal is applied to a relay of a battery pack connection circuit through a battery management system (BMS) or vehicle control device. Then, current or voltage from a pre-charge resistor of the battery pack connection circuit is detected. Thereafter, the detected current or voltage is compared with standard correspondence information pre-stored in a memory unit of the BMS to determine whether the detected value is within a normal range of the battery pack. A connection between the battery pack and the power conversion circuit is carried out when the detected value is within the normal range as a result of the determination, otherwise a pre-charge relay of the battery pack connection circuit is turned off and then a driver is provided with a warning signal.

Battery pack management method for HEV and EV

Disclosed herein is a secondary battery module comprising a plurality of unit cells stacked one on another, wherein the unit cells are spaced apart from each other such that a channel for heat dissipation is defined between the unit cells, the battery module further comprises at least one piezoelectric sensor mounted in the channel, and the at least one piezoelectric sensor is connected to a battery management system (BMS). According to the present invention, the piezoelectric sensor is mounted in the channel defined between the unit cells of the secondary battery module. Consequently, no additional space for installing the piezoelectric sensor is needed, and therefore, the increase of the size of the battery module is effectively prevented. Furthermore, the change of the internal pressure of the battery is accurately detected by the piezoelectric sensor, and therefore, the expansion or the explosion of the battery caused due to the overcharge or overheating of the unit cells is effectively prevented.

Disclosed herein is a terminal-connecting device including an electrically insulating hollow connecting device body having an open upper end, and an electrically insulating cover coupled to the open upper end of the connecting device body. The terminal-connecting device is constructed such that a plate-shaped conductive bus bar is mounted to the lower end of the connecting device body, two or more terminal insertion holes are formed in the lower end of the connecting device body and the bus bar, the terminal insertion holes formed in the lower end of the connecting device body communicating with the terminal insertion holes formed in the bus bar, and a connecting member insertion slit is formed in one side of connecting device body for allowing further connection of the corresponding electrode terminal to an external connecting member, as occasion demands. The electrical connection between the electrode terminals and the electrical connection between the external connecting member and the corresponding electrode terminal can be easily and conveniently accomplished through the use of the terminal-connecting device according to the present invention. Also, the terminal connection part is isolated from the outside, whereby the occurrence of short circuits and the occurrence of corrosion due to moisture are effectively prevented. The terminal-connecting device according to the present invention is preferably used in manufacturing a medium- or large-sized battery system, especially, for electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.

Disclosed herein is a secondary battery pack including a plurality of cartridges. Each of the cartridges has a plurality of unit cells mounted therein. The cartridges are stacked one on another in an alternate orientation structure in which electrode terminals of the neighboring cartridges are not located on the same plane when the cartridges are electrically connected to each other, thereby accomplishing easy and safe electrical connection between the cartridges.
