An optical pointing device includes a base which can be a casing of a peripheral device of a computer system having a display using a cursor or a portion of a display system using a cursor. The base defines a cavity having an opening in a surface of the base. An optical sensing system is received and retained in the cavity. The optical sensing system includes a lens located in front of the optical sensing system for directing optical signals toward/away from the optical sensing system. A light-transmitting panel is removably and selectively mounted to the opening of the cavity for covering the cavity. The distance between the panel and the lens is substantially equal to the focusing length of the lens whereby an object moving on the panel can be clearly detected by the optical sensing system and then converted into a corresponding first electrical signal to drive the cursor in a first direction. The pointing device can be placed on a fixed surface with the panel removed and moved with respect to the fixed surface for generating a second electrical signal to drive the cursor in an opposite second direction. A panel detection element is mounted in the body for detecting the presence of the panel and serves as a switch for switching the pointing device between forward moving mode where the first electrical signal is generated and rearward moving mode where the second electrical signal is generated.

Optical pointing device

A variable resistance measuring loop having a compensational function for environmental factors is provided. The variable resistance measuring loop includes a central processing unit; a variable resistance VR connected between first and second terminals of the central processing unit, as well as a transistor Q and resistance R coupled to respective terminals of the central processing unit, and a capacitor C coupled with the transistor Q to a center contact of the variable resistance VR. During operation, the variable resistance measuring loop establishes at least one of two discharging loop modes wherein discharge of the capacitor C occurs through one of either a resistance portion RA or a resistance portion RB of the variable resistance VR.

Variable resistance measuring loop having compensational function for environmental factors

A method for forming a keyboard switching circuit without generating phantom phenomenon is disclosed. The method includes the steps of (1) forming a matrix of nodes with input/output terminals of the keyboard circuit; (2) selecting nodes from the matrix to define a reference diagonal line which divides the matrix into upper and lower portions; (3) selectively selecting nodes of the matrix in the upper and/or lower portions to define diagonal lines parallel to the reference line, the diagonal lines being located at different distance from the reference lines and the nodes of the diagonal lines forming no rectangle with each other; and (4) setting switches in the selected nodes. Since no rectangle can be formed among the switches, no reverse current may be caused by simultaneous actuation of three switches of a rectangle and thus effectively eliminating phantom phenomenon.

Method for forming switching circuit of keyboard without generating phantom phenomenon

This invention relates to an antenna base, comprising a printed circuit board. A base is designed in a region at an appropriate location on the printed circuit board. The base is printed with silver glue on the printed circuit board. This base serves as the antenna base, or this base along with the printed circuits on the printed circuit boards form the antenna base, so that the antenna can effectively transmit signals when the keyboard, mouse or other computer peripheral equipment is connected with the antenna.

Antenna base

A multimedia keyboard with instrument playing device comprising a case, a connector and flexible protruding plate mounted on one end of the case. A protruding plate can be inserted into an available slot in the multimedia keyboard, providing a signal connection and a flexible clip. Playing elements such as guitar strings, piano keys, or a drumhead are mounted on the exterior of the case. Several series of flexible conducting elements connected to the playing elements are mounted within the case. When the playing elements are struck or plucked, the conducting elements will deform in direct proportion to the amount of force that has been applied. One signal pickup circuit board including several carbon film resistance plates is mounted on the top or bottom of each flexible conducting elements. When a flexible conducting elements deforms, the changing area of contact between its deformed portion and the carbon film resistance plates can be used to generate analog signals in direct proportion to the amount of force applied to the playing elements. These signals allow the computer to generate sound length, tone, and volume corresponding to those of the playing elements.
