A system for navigating a host vehicle, includes at least one processor comprising circuitry and a memory, wherein the memory includes instructions that when executed by the circuitry cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising: receiving from a camera onboard the host vehicle at least one captured image representative of an environment of the host vehicle; detecting, based on analysis of the at least one captured image, a presence of a road covering material on a road segment surface; determining, based on analysis of the at least one captured image, a distance between the camera onboard the host vehicle and the road covering material; and determining a thickness profile of the road covering material based on the determined distance between the camera onboard the host vehicle and the road covering material, and also based on stored three-dimensional profile information associated with the road segment surface.

Systems and methods for navigating a vehicle on a covered road

Systems and methods for providing one or more map segments to one or more vehicles are disclosed. In one implementation at least one processor is programmed to receive navigational information from a vehicle, the navigational information including an indicator of a location of the vehicle, an indicator of a speed of the vehicle, and an indicator of a direction of travel of the vehicle; analyze the received navigational information and determine a potential travel envelope for the vehicle; and send to the vehicle one or more map segments including map information for a geographical region at least partially overlapping with the potential travel envelope of the vehicle.

Map management using an electronic horizon

A system for vehicle navigation may include a processor including a circuitry and a memory. The memory may include instructions that when executed by the circuitry cause the processor to receive navigational information associated with the vehicle including an indicator of a location of the vehicle, and determine target navigational map segments to retrieve from a map database. The map database may include stored navigational map segments each corresponding to a real-world area. The determination of the target navigational map segments may be based on the indicator of vehicle location and on map segment connectivity information associated with the stored navigational map segments. The instructions may also cause the processor to initiate downloading of the target navigational map segments from the map database, and cause the vehicle to navigate along a target trajectory included in one or more of the target navigational map segments downloaded from the map database.

A system for navigating a host vehicle includes at least one electronic horizon processor to determine an electronic horizon for the host vehicle based on localization of the host vehicle relative to a map, generate a navigation information packet including information associated with the determined electronic horizon, and output the generated navigation information packet to one or more navigation system processors configured to cause the host vehicle to execute at least one navigational maneuver based on the information included in the navigation information packet.

A system for navigating a host vehicle includes at least one electronic horizon processor to access a map representative of at least a road segment on which the host vehicle travels or is expected to travel, wherein the map includes one or more splines representative of road features associated with the road segment, localize the host vehicle relative to a drivable path for the host vehicle represented among the one or more splines, determine a set of points associated with the one or more splines based on the localization of the host vehicle relative to the drivable path for the host vehicle, and generate a navigation information packet including information associated with the one or more splines and the determined set of points relative to the one or more splines.
