An air handling unit for use with an air conditioning system is provided including a housing duct through which air is circulated. A vane-axial flow fan circulates air through the housing duct. The fan includes an impeller having a plurality of fan blades extending therefrom and an axis of rotation arranged substantially in-line with a flow path of the air. A heat exchanger assembly is arranged within the housing duct in a heat transfer relationship with the air circulating through the housing duct.

Fan coil unit with shrouded fan

An axial flow fan assembly including a housing, a stator, a motor supported by the stator, and a fan rotatably mounted on the motor. The stator is connected to the housing at an outlet end thereof, and includes a stator hub and a plurality of stator vanes each extending radially inwardly and axially downwardly from the housing. Each stator vane is connected at its inner tip to the stator hub. The motor is positioned within the housing and is supported by the stator hub. The fan is secured to the shaft of the motor, and includes a fan hub and a plurality of fan blades extending substantially radially outwardly from the fan hub. The particular configuration of the stator vanes allows the entire length of the motor casing to be encompassed between the inlet of the housing and the stator hub, which in turn provides a substantial reduction of the overall axial height of the fan assembly. The stator vanes also allow increased spacing between the fan blades and the stator vanes, which in turn reduces interaction between the fan blades and stator vanes. This reduces the level of noise generated by the fan.

Axial flow fan assembly and one-piece housing for axial flow fan assembly

A centrifugal fan including a fan hub lying generally in a plane normal to the axis of fan rotation and having a central opening for receiving a motor housing, and a plurality of fan blades of substantially identical construction spaced circumferentially evenly around the fan hub and extending away from the fan hub in a direction parallel to the axis of fan rotation. Each fan blade includes a leading edge at its innermost radial periphery, and the leading edge, at least at the axially upper one-half section thereof, is convexly curved in the shape of a quarter ellipse having a major axis, Mg, substantially parallel to the axis of fan rotation and a minor axis, mh, normal to the major axis Mg. The fan also includes a continuous shroud joined to each fan blade at an axially upper section of the radially outer portion thereof and the shroud is concave in cross-section. The fan orifice used in conjunction with the fan has an entry portion that is convex in cross-section and is in the form of a surface produced by rotating a planar line about a coplanar axis of generation that is coincident with the axis of rotation of the fan, the planar line being a generally quarter segment of an ellipse having a major axis, Ma, substantially parallel to the axis of generation and a minor axis, mb, normal to the major axis Ma.

Centrifugal flow fan and fan/orifice assembly

A filter assembly 10 includes a housing 12 defining a filter chamber having a first region forming a contaminated air inlet chamber 30 and a second region forming a clean air outlet chamber 40. A filter element 20 extends within the housing between the inlet chamber 30 and the outlet chamber 40. A flow barrier member 60 protrudes from the housing into a cooperating groove 70 provided in the end face of the filter element 20. The flow barrier forms a labyrinth type seal blocking contaminated air from bypassing the filter element.

Filter apparatus

A compact refrigeration unit for use in a trailer container that includes a support frame that is mounted upon the front wall of the container. A power package containing a diesel engine coupled to a generator and an electrically driven compressor are mounted in the lower section of the frame. Front and rear compartments are situated in the upper section of the frame. The front compartment contains a condenser heat exchanger and a pair of fan units are mounted in the bottom of the front compartment for directing condenser cooling air over the power package and the compressor. An evaporator heat exchanger is mounted in the rear compartment along with a pair of fan units mounted in the top of the compartment. The evaporator heat exchanger and the associated fan units communicate with the container to circulate conditioned air through the container.

Compact trailer refrigeration unit

A ceiling mounted indoor unit (10) for an air conditioning system of the type that is generally recessed within a false or drop ceiling. The air conditioner has a fan (11) and heat exchanger (12) mounted within an enclosure (20). There is a primary fan suction inlet (31) and a fan discharge outlet (32) in the bottom wall (21) of the enclosure, and an auxiliary fan suction inlet (33) in a side wall (22) of the enclosure, so that at least some of the air entering the enclosure and passing through the heat exchanger will be drawn from the space between the false ceiling and the true ceiling. Air reenters the interceiling space through holes and gaps in the false ceiling. The auxiliary fan suction inlet reduces radiated noise and improves air flow distribution in the room served by the air conditioner.

Ceiling mounted indoor unit for an air conditioning system

An inlet orifice structure and impeller assembly for a centrifugal flow fan. The inlet orifice has an elliptical cross section in a plane passing through the axis of rotation of the fan. The impeller is shrouded and also has a similarly elliptical cross section. The impeller is sized so that, when assembled together, the shroud overlaps and rotates around the stationary inlet orifice. In a preferred embodiment, there are 13 impeller blades nonuniformly spaced around a hub plate. A particular blade spacing is disclosed and claimed. The inner surface of the hub plate is arcuately curved to guide the air flow through the fan from its entering axial direction to its radial exiting direction. The contour of the hub plate allows for the fan drive motor to be partially recessed into the plate.

Centrifugal fan inlet orifice and impeller assembly

A low profile room air conditioner. The low profile is achieved in part by the arrangement of components in its outside section. The fan that moves air through the outside section is of the axial flow type mounted so that its axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the base of the enclosure and so that the fan draws air into the outside section through the top of the enclosure. Air discharges from the outside section through an air discharge on a side of the enclosure. Louvers at the air discharge direct the air exiting the enclosure away from the air inlet. A slinger directs droplets of condensate drained from the inside refrigerant-to-air heat exchanger into the air flowing through the outside section. The air carries the condensate on to the outside refrigerant-to-air heat exchanger where it evaporates. The air flow carries the resultant water vapor out of the outside section.

Room air conditioner

A cover intended for use in conjunction with the outside enclosure, usually containing the outside heat exchanger and compressor, of an air conditioning system. The cover features a recessed rainproof compartment in which may be located electrical and other components of the system, eliminating the need for and expense of an unsightly or inaccessible equipment box to house those components. The compartmented cover is intended for fabrication from plastic materials by a molding process to minimize cost and weight, maximize strength and durability and to present an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Cover for the outside enclosure of an air conditioning system

A low noise axial flow fan (10/110) having a plurality of identical blades (13/113) extending from a central hub (11/111). In a preferred embodiment, each blade is highly skewed, having a backward (with respect to fan rotation direction) skew in the root portion (15/115) of the blade nearest the hub, changing to a highly forward skew in the portion (16/116) of the blade near the tip. The fan may be shrouded or unshrouded. In the shrouded embodiment, the fan (110) is used in conjuncton with an inlet orifice structure (131). Each blade of the fan has a chord length (Ch) that increases from root (17/117) to tip (18/118), a pitch angle (.GAMMA.) that decreases from roto to tip and a camber angle (Ca) that decreases from root to tip. In the shrouded embodiment (110), both the contour of the inlet portion (126) of the shroud and the contour of the inlet portion (132) of the orifice structure are quarter sections of ellipses.

Axial flow fan and fan orifice

A transverse fan impeller (30) having at least two modules (32). Each module is defined by an adjacent pair of partition disks (34) each perpendicularly centered on the rotational axis of the impeller. Blades (31) extend longitudinally between pairs of partition disks. The angular spacing of blades in a module is nonuniform but also not random, being determined by application of certain formulae disclosed. The angular blade spacing within each module of the impeller is the same, but the modules are angularly offset so that a blade in one module is offset from the corresponding blade in an adjacent module by a predetermined value. The module and blade configurations reduce both the blade rate tonal noise and overall radiated noise produced as compared to an impeller having uniformly spaced blades.

Impeller for transverse fan

A shroud for an axial flow fan having an orifice designed to improve the overall flow efficiency of the fan. In preferred embodiments, the shroud is generally toroidal in form with a cross section that is ellipsoidal in the area of the shroud leading edge with interior and exterior wall segments that taper and converge at the trailing edge of the shroud. The shroud is particularly suited for use with a recessed fan used in the outside enclosure of a 'split' air conditioning (including heat pump) system, enabling the same flow of air through the enclosure with less radiated noise than prior art shroud designs.

Orificed shroud for axial flow fan

A fan orifice structure and cover intended for use in conjunction with the outside enclosure, usually containing the outside heat exchanger and compressor, of an air conditioning system. The orifice features relatively complex contours that enhance fan efficiency and reduce radiated noise. The cover in which the orifice structure is incorporated can include a plurality of fan motor support brackets and a motor mount. The orificed cover is intended for fabrication from plastic materials by a molding process to minimize cost and weight, maximize strength and durability and to present an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The entire assembly can be molded into a single piece unit.

Fan orifice structure and cover for outside enclosure of an air

A suction strainer for use with a fluid machine in the form of a tee-shaped housing with a crossover bore, an upright branch, a seal and a frustoconical mesh strainer is provided in which the mesh portion is spaced from the outlet of the housing so as to provide a large area of the mesh portion with the same pressure drop. Additionally, the entrance to the outlet branch is provided with a generous radius for a smoother flow transition.

Suction strainer

An air conditioner unit that includes a housing containing a heat exchanger and a centrifugal impeller positioined behind the heat exchanger for drawing comfort air over the exchanger surfaces and returning the air to a comfort zone. A support wall is placed between the heat exchanger and the inlet of the impeller and an orifice is mounted in the wall for directing conditioned air into the fan inlet. A cylindrical shield is also mounted upon the wall and surrounds the orifice. The shield is axially aligned with the impeller and its end face positioned adjacent to the inlet face of the impeller. The axial length of the orifice from the wall is less than that of the surrounding shield so that a wide circular throat is established around the entrance region of the impeller. The velocity of air drawn through the gap between the shield and the impeller is thus reduced within the throat to minimize its adverse effect on the primary air flow entering the orifice.
