The invention provides a method for moisture sealing the interface between a nut on the leading end of a male F-Type connector and the threaded tubular shaft of the female F connector. The male connector is attached to a coaxial cable and the female is mounted to an outdoor device such as a cable TV splitter, grounding device, satellite dish, or distribution device, amplifier or group. The sealing device includes a compressible portion comprising an elastically compressible member having a cylindrical bore and a conical outer surface. An annular compression ring overlies a portion of the conical outer surface of the compressible portion. The compressible portion is compressed radially inwardly against the shaft of the female F-Type connector as the leading edge of the male F nut is screwed onto the female threaded shaft of the female F-Type connector, providing a pressurized moisture ingress barrier. The compressible portion may have internal 3/8-32 threads to mate with threads on the shaft for a more secure seal.

Moisture seal for an F-Type connector

A coaxial cable installation tool useful for folding back an exposed portion of grounded shielding on the end of a coaxial cable in preparation for the attachment of the coaxial cable to a coaxial cable connector. In a preferred embodiment, the installation tool includes a handle portion that is adapted to be comfortably grasped by an installer, and a flaring tool recessed within one end of the handle portion. The flaring tool includes a spring-loaded cylindrical flaring rod slidably mounted within a coaxial tubular housing. The flaring rod has a cylindrical receptacle in the leading end thereof, the diameter of the cylindrical receptacle being dimensioned to receive the portion of the coaxial cable underlying the grounded shielding therewithin. The inner diameter of the receptacle permits the snug insertion of a variety of coaxial cable connectors, such as, for example, F-type connectors, thereinto. As the partially prepared end of a coaxial cable is inserted into the axially disposed cylindrical receptacle in the flaring rod, an annular shim on the leading end of the flaring rod separates the grounded shielding from the underlying dielectric layer. Further advancement of the cable into the receptacle separates the entire exposed portion of grounded shielding from the dielectric layer. Further pressure on the cable urges the flaring rod rearwardly into the tubular housing. As the flaring rod moves rearwardly, the leading end of the tubular housing folds the separated grounded shielding to overlie the cable jacketing. An axial opening in the trailing end of the cylindrical receptacle receives the exposed portion of the central conductor of the coaxial cable thereby preventing the blunting or bending thereof.

Tool for installing a coaxial cable connector

A tool for stripping the jacket, conductive braid and dielectric layer of a coaxial cable to the correct length required for attachment to a coaxial cable connector, and for attaching the stripped end of the coaxial cable to a coaxial cable connector by means of crimping. The stripping portion of the tool has a dual blade cutter that has preset blade separation, fixed cutting depths, and includes preset spring pressure to insure a complete cut. The tool further includes means for applying the force needed to hexagonally crimp a compression crimp ring having a length of up to inch on a standard coaxial cable connector in order to attach the connector to the stripped cable. The invention provides an economical tool, and method for using the tool, for hex crimping a compression crimp ring of up to inch in length on standard coaxial cable connectors. The tool uses a screw type mechanism to provide leverage for applying the required hexagonal compression force to facilitate proper installation of a cable connector on a cable, even by a non-professional cable installer.

Coaxial cable stripping and crimping tool

A compression-type coaxial cable connector having a leading end, a trailing end and integral construction is described. The connector includes a nut at the leading end of the connector, a tubular shank having a flange on a leading end thereof and a barb concentrically disposed on a trailing end, a slotted body portion and a compression sleeve slidably attached to the body portion forming the trailing end of the connector. The connector, and each of the components associated therewith, has an axial conduit coextensive with the length thereof. When the prepared end of a coaxial cable is inserted into the trailing end of the connector conduit and advanced through the conduit into the body portion, the shank separates the outer protective jacket and conductive braid of the cable from the dielectric core and interposes the barbed portion of the tubular shank therebetween. Subsequent advancement of the compression sleeve over the body portion, with the assistance of a compression tool, compresses the cable jacket and braid in two locations providing secure attachment. Following compression, further advancement of the compression sleeve is stopped when an annular ridge within the compression sleeve engages a groove in the outer surface of the slotted body portion, thereby providing a stable mechanical connection between the cable and connector. A first &ldquo;O&rdquo; ring disposed between the tubular shank and the nut, and a second &ldquo;O&rdquo; ring disposed between the slotted body portion and compression sleeve, provide a moisture seal. The construction of the slotted body portion and the compression sleeve minimizes the possibility of installation errors.
