The present invention provides an emissive region in organic light emitting devices having a combined emission from at least two emissive materials, a fluorescent blue emissive material and a phosphorescent emissive material. The emissive region may further comprise additional fluorescent or phosphorescent emissive materials. Preferably, the emissive region has three different emissive materials&#x2014;a red emissive material, a green emissive material and a blue emissive material. Organic light emitting devices incorporating the emissive region provides a high color-stability of the light emission over a wide range of currents or luminances.

Organic light emitting devices

The present invention provides organic light emitting devices having a combined emission from at least two emissive materials, a fluorescent blue emissive material and a phosphorescent emissive material. The device may further comprise additional fluorescent or phosphorescent emissive materials. In preferred embodiments, the invention provides OLEDs having three different emissive materials&#x2014;a red emissive material, a green emissive material and a blue emissive material. The invention provides a device architecture which is optimized for efficiency and lifetime by using a combination of fluorescent and phosphorescent emitters. Further, in preferred embodiments the device architecture provides a high color-stability of the light emission over a wide range of currents or luminances.

Hybrid OLED having phosphorescent and fluorescent emitters

A device is provided, having an anode, a cathode, and two adjacent organic layers disposed between the anode and the cathode. One organic layer is a phosphorescent emissive material. The other organic layer may comprise an aromatic hydrocarbon material, comprising an aromatic non-heterocyclic hydrocarbon core optionally substituted, and wherein the substituents are the same or different, and each is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroalkyl, substituted aryl, substituted heteroaryl and heterocyclic groups. The second organic layer may comprise a material having a molecular dipole moment less than about 2.0 debyes, such that the device has an unmodified external quantum efficiency of at least about 3% and a lifetime of at least about 1000 hours at an initial luminance of about 100 to about 1000 cd/m.

Materials and structures for enhancing the performance of organic light emitting devices

A device is provided, having an anode, a cathode, and two adjacent organic layers disposed between the anode and the cathode. One organic layer is a phosphorescent emissive material. The other organic layer may comprise an aromatic hydrocarbon material, comprising an aromatic non-heterocyclic hydrocarbon core optionally substituted, and wherein the substituents are the same or different, and each is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroalkyl, substituted aryl, substituted heteroaryl and heterocyclic groups. The second organic layer may comprise a material having a molecular dipole moment less than about 2.0 debyes, such that the device has an unmodified external quantum efficiency of at least about 3% and a lifetime of at least about 1000 hours at an initial luminance of about 100 to about 1000 cd m.

Disclosed is a conventional organic light emitting diode (OLED) having one reflective electrode in combination with at least one transparent OLED in stacked configuration functioning as backlighting in a transflective display apparatus such as a liquid crystal display (LCD). Preferably, at least two transparent OLEDs are arranged in a stacked configuration with one conventional OLED, each of the three OLEDs emitting light of a different bandwidth. The reflective electrode located behind the backlight also serves as a reflecting plate for the display. This arrangement enhances reflectivity and permits color sequencing in the transmissive mode, allowing all the components of a full color display (i.e. red, green, blue) to emit through the same pixel without the need for a color filter.

An organic light emitting device is provided. The device has an anode, a cathode, and an emissive layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The emissive layer further comprising an emissive material having the structure: M is a metal having an atomic weight greater than 40. Ris an aromatic group. The emissive material itself is also provided. The emissive material provides an improved stability and efficiency.

Organometallic compounds for use in electroluminescent devices

The present invention relates to organic light emitting devices (OLEDs). The devices of the present invention are efficient white or multicolored phosphorescent OLEDs which have a high color stability over a wide range of luminances. The devices of the present invention comprise an emissive region having at least two emissive layers, with each emissive layer comprising a different host and emissive dopant, wherein at least one of the emissive dopants emits by phosphorescence.

Organic light emitting device structure for obtaining chromaticity stability

A device is provided, having an anode, a cathode, and a first organic layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The first organic layer produces phosphorescent emission when a voltage is applied between the anode and the cathode. An organic enhancement layer disposed between the first organic layer and the cathode is also provided. The organic enhancement layer is in direct contact with the first organic layer. The organic enhancement layer may comprise a material of structure (I): The material of structure I is thermally stable and is a high energy band gap material.

The first organic layer comprises a material that produces phosphorescent emission when a voltage is applied between the anode and the cathode. A second organic layer is disposed between the first organic layer and the cathode. The second organic layer is in direct contact with the first organic layer. The second organic layer may comprise a material having a dipole moment less than about 2.0 debyes, such that the device has an unmodified external quantum efficiency of at least about 3% and a lifetime of at least about 1000 hours at an initial luminance of about 100 to about 1000 cd/m. The second organic layer may be in direct contact with the cathode, or there may be a separate organic layer between the second organic layer and the cathode.

Organic light emitting materials and devices

An organic light emitting device is provided. The device has an anode, a cathode, and an emissive layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The emissive layer further comprises an emissive material having the structure:M may be a metal having an atomic weight greater than 40. Rmay be a substituent having a Hammett value less than about &#x2212;0.17, between about &#x2212;0.15 and 0.05, or greater than about 0.07. Rmay be H or any substituent. A may be a 5 or 6 member heteroaryl ring system. 'm' may be at least 1. 'n' may be at least zero. (X-Y) may be an ancillary ligand. The emissive material itself is also provided. The emissive material may have improved stability, and may provide a saturated blue emission.

A device is provided. The device has a first electrode comprising a reflective material, and a second electrode disposed over the first electrode, the second electrode comprising a transmissive material. An organic layer including an emissive material is disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. A light modulating element is disposed over the second electrode. In one embodiment, the first electrode is the only significantly reflective layer in the device. In another embodiment, the first and second electrodes and the organic layer are fabricated over the light modulating element, and the second electrode is reflective, not the first electrode. Color filters may be used to achieve a full-color display. Organic light emitting devices may be used that emit a broad spectra of light, such as white light. Organic light emitting devices that emit a single color of light may be used. Different organic light emitting devices that emit different spectra of light may be used.
