An ultrasonic therapeutic apparatus includes a handle, a horn or concentrator section terminating in an operative tip, and a transducer assembly set disposed in the handle and operatively engaged with the horn or concentrator section for generating ultrasonic mechanical vibrations therein to vibrate the operative tip during contact thereof with target tissue at a surgical site in a patient. An electrical waveform generator is operatively connected to the transducer assembly for energizing the transducer assembly set with one or more predetermined time reversal ultrasonic waveforms that, upon being applied to the transducer assembly set, result in respective predetermined patterns of motion of the operative tip.

A computing device includes: a memory storing an audio sequence and a reference attribute associated with playback of the audio sequence; a speaker; a microphone; an audio enclosure supporting the speaker and the microphone; a processor configured to: simultaneously (i) control the speaker to play the audio sequence, and (ii) control the microphone to capture a test recording corresponding to playback of the audio sequence; based on a comparison of the reference attribute to a test attribute associated with the test recording, detect occlusion of the audio enclosure; and in response to detecting occlusion of the audio enclosure, generate a notification message.

An ultrasound transducer assembly includes an acoustic focusing lens and a therapy transducer mounted to a holder member so that the lens is movable relative to the transducer. The lens and the transducer are mounted to the holder member so that the lens is spaced a predetermined distance from the transducer element. A liquid layer having a thickness of the predetermined distance is provided between the lens and the transducer element. A solid backing member is disposed on a side of the transducer element opposite the lens. The backing member is spaced by an additional liquid layer of a predetermined thickness from the transducer element. The focusing depth of the lens-transducer assembly is controllable by transducer operating frequency.

Carotid body ablation via directed energy

A cardiac ablation device treats atrial fibrillation by directing and focusing ultrasonic waves into a ring-like ablation region (A). The device desirably is steerable and can be moved between a normal disposition, in which the ablation region lies parallel to the wall of the heart for ablating a loop-like lesion, and a canted disposition, in which the ring-like focal region is tilted relative to the wall of the heart, to ablate only a short, substantially linear lesion. The ablation device desirably includes a balloon reflector structure () and an ultrasonic emitter assembly (), and can be steered and positioned without reference to engagement between the device and the pulmonary vein or ostium. A contrast medium (C) can be injected through the ablation device to facilitate imaging, so that the device can be positioned based on observation of the images.

A balloon catheter is provided with a sleeve and a flexible material where, upon inflation of the balloon, the sleeve is slid over a ball joint, preventing the flexible material and tube from moving through a range of motion in order to prevent the tube from kinking and misaligning.
